West Bengal Tourism minister Indranil Sen on Thursday told the Assembly that the state has the highest number of certified tourist guides among all states in India.
He said that 1,022 tourist guides have received certificates so far after the Tourism department introduced the Tourist Guide Certification Scheme in the state.
Sen told the House that West Bengal has the highest number of certified tourist guides among all states in the country.
Stating that the Tourism department has taken several initiatives to increase tourist arrivals in Purulia, which had been affected by Maoist activities over a decade back, the minister said that a large number of tourists were now visiting the lush green forests and hills in this western district.
Sen said that the state government was giving adequate infrastructural support to private entities to open tourism properties.
He said that the Purulia Tourism Development Council has been formed to provide necessary assistance to all stakeholders and promote travel to the district, which till a decade back was rarely considered as a tourist destination.
The minister said that those tourists who visit north Bengal for forests and hills, are now considering Purulia, where peace and security have been re-established.

The Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Nutrition or NIN have released revised National Dietary Guidelines for Indians, which state that children up to two years of age should be kept away from sugar, limiting the daily intake of calories from sugar to only 5 percent. Their daily diet should include at least 500 grams of fruits and vegetables. Diet guidelines also advise people to avoid protein supplements to meet their daily protein requirements and have natural protein instead.&nbsp;
<h3>ICMR released 17 dieatary guidelines</h3>
According to the ICMR, about 57% of Indians tolerate the burden of diseases due to unhealthy diet. In the 17 dietary guidelines, shared by the regulatory body it is stated that healthy diet and physical activity have the potential to substantially reduce coronary heart disease (CHD) cases and hypertension (HTN) cases and prevent up to 80% of type 2 diabetes cases.
The Dietary Guidelines for Indians (DGIs) has been drafted by a multi-disciplinary committee of experts led by Dr Hemalatha R, Director, ICMR-NIN.
According to the guidelines, a well-rounded diet ought to consist of a maximum of 45% of calories sourced from cereals and millets, and a portion of up to 15% of calories derived from pulses, beans, and meat. The remaining calories are recommended to be obtained from nuts, vegetables, fruits, and milk.

The survey also revealed that there is a continuous increase in the number of pathogens that neutralize the effect of a drug, disabling them from treating some infections.&nbsp;

In the new guideline, ICMR has advised that antibiotics should be given for five days for skin and soft tissue infections, five days for community-acquired pneumonia and eight days for hospital-acquired pneumonia. &nbsp;
