UK police on Tuesday removed Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg from a protest outside the energy sector's annual London get-together, an AFP photographer reported.
The 20-year-old activist, who has become a key face of the movement to fight climate change, was taken away by two police officers and put into the back of a police van outside the Energy Intelligence Forum.
Joining a mass protest, Thunberg earlier slammed "closed door" agreements struck between politicians and representatives of the oil and gas industry.
"Behind these closed doors, spineless politicians are making deals and compromises with lobbyists from (the) destructive fossil fuel industry," Thunberg told journalists outside the venue hosting the annual gathering, which runs until Thursday.
Several hundred protestors gathered by the InterContinental London Park Lane hotel during the "Oily Money Out" demonstration, organised by pressure groups Fossil Free London and Greenpeace, blocking all entrances to the venue.
The carbon-intensive sector has faced fierce criticism from the green lobby for continuing to invest in dirty fossil fuels and worsen climate change -- instead of accelerating the shift towards cleaner renewable energy.
"The world is drowning in fossil fuels. Our hopes and dreams and lives are being washed away by a flood of greenwashing and lies," added Thunberg.
"It has been clear for decades that the fossil fuel industries were well aware of the consequences of their business models, and yet, they have done nothing.
"The opposite -- they have actively delayed, distracted and denied the causes of the climate crisis and spread doubts about their own engagement in it," she said.

Hours after a Swedish court fined Greta Thunberg for disobeying police during an environmental protest at an oil facility last month, the climate activist once again attempted to block access to the facility and was removed by police.
Earlier on Monday, Thunberg, 20, admitted to the facts but denied guilt, saying the fight against the fossil fuel industry was a form of self-defence due to the existential and global threat of the climate crisis.
&ldquo;We cannot save the world by playing by the rules,&rdquo; she told journalists after hearing the verdict, vowing she would &ldquo;definitely not&rdquo; back down.
The court rejected her argument and fined her 2,500 kronor (about USD 240).
Charges were brought against Thunberg and several other youth activists from the Reclaim the Future movement for refusing a police order to disperse after blocking road access to an oil terminal in the southern Swedish city of Malmo on June 19.
&ldquo;If the court sees our actions of self-defence as a crime, that's how it is,&rdquo; said Irma Kjellstrom, a spokesperson for Reclaim the Future who was also present at the June protest. She added that activists &ldquo;have to be exactly where the harm is being done&rdquo;.
The sentencing appeared to have little effect on the youths' determination &mdash; Thunberg and Reclaim the Future activists returned to the oil terminal in the afternoon to stage to another roadblock and were eventually removed by police.&nbsp;

In the city of Cologne, climate activists glued themselves to a main street, while in Dusseldorf, they stuck themselves to a government building. Near Rommerskirchen, over a hundred protestors occupied coal railroad tracks.
In addition, several people occupied a giant digger at the coal mine of Inden, while hundreds of other protesters joined a protest march near Luetzerath. The village itself was evacuated by the police in recent days and is sealed off.
Thunberg had traveled to western Germany to participate in weekend demonstrations against the expanded mine and also took part in Tuesday's protest near Luetzerath. Police in nearby Aachen said a group of around 50 protesters got dangerously close to the rim of the mine and did not want to leave despite being asked to do so.
