Smt Sushiladevi Deshmukh College in Latur boasts a seven-acre green sanctuary, known as Mini Konkan, celebrated for its biodiversity and sustainability. The campus is nearly water self-sufficient and generates 2,852 kg of oxygen daily.

A lush green paradise, boasting of more than 700 trees, has taken root at a sprawling seven-acre college in Maharashtra's Latur city, attracting hundreds of people on its walking track everyday.
Earning the nickname of "Mini Konkan" from nature lovers and morning walkers, the serene eco-haven exudes a rich biodiversity that mirrors the Konkan region's natural charm.
Notably, 712 trees were planted over 20 years ago, forming the green spine of the Smt Sushiladevi Deshmukh Senior College campus.
The college generates approximately 2,852 kg of oxygen every day, its principal Dr Ajay Patil claimed while talking PTI on the eve of the World Environment Day on Wednesday.
The trees, seasonal blooms, along with the lush green canopy of other native species, not only enhance the scenic beauty but also create a soothing, natural environment that attracts visitors, students and nature enthusiasts alike.
The presence of such flowering trees adds a picturesque appeal, making the college campus feel like a living, breathing botanical garden, said Dr Pandurang Shitole, head of the college's English department.
The leaf litter and organic waste on the campus are converted into compost manure, nurturing the very trees that give shade to students and visitors, Dr Patil said.
A sewage treatment plant (STP) installed in a nearby drain filters up to 60,000 litres of wastewater every day, which is then reused for irrigating the greenery, making the campus nearly self-reliant in its water needs, he said.
A dedicated walking track attracts hundreds of residents each morning and evening.
"We come here everyday for a walk, and it truly feels like we're strolling through the greenery of Konkan," said Latur-based retired headmaster Balasaheb Yadav, one of the regular walkers at the facility.
"This transformation is the result of a clear vision and sustained efforts under the guidance of former minister Diliprao Deshmukh, president of Manjara Charitable Trust," Dr Patil said.

Officials have been given instructions to expedite clearances for important infrastructure projects, including construction of roads, Maharashtra forest minister Ganesh Naik said here on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference after a two-day review of the state forest department, in which marathon meetings and discussions were held, he also said projects announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be cleared "on war footing" by his department.
"I have given clear instructions to senior forest officials not to block construction of important roads. They have been directed to expedite clearance for infrastructure projects in the ambit of the forest department," he said.
Naik also informed reporters that he has written to Reliance Industries' Anant Ambani to start 'Suryatara' project in Maharashtra on the lines of the latter's 'Vantara' initiative in neighbouring Gujarat. Vantara, spread over 3000 acres in RIL's Jamnagar refinery complex, is a state-of-the-art animal rescue and rehabilitation centre.
"If it works out, land has been earmarked in Thane. The project is under consideration," Naik said.
During the press conference, Naik informed about deliberations to use degraded forest land to set up solar power plants and the plan of the social forestry department to plant trees along the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway.
"There are plans to include drones and helicopters to douse forest fires and prevent them. New weapons (for enforcement of forest laws) and drones will be purchased for the forest department. Various efforts are underway to prevent man-animal conflict," he added.

'As of February, 13.1% of paid job postings on our platform in India require green skills. We&rsquo;re seeing steady progress in India where paid job postings that require green skills have increased by 5% year-over-year,' she added.
Construction (49.46%) and farming, ranching, and forestry (53.29%) have both experienced substantial green transformations and have India's greatest growth rates for green talent.
Others, like oil, gas, and mining, have a significant proportion of green talent (28.77%) and a high growth rate year over year of 13.56%. These industries are further along in their transition to a greener economy.
