This campaign represents a unique partnership between the Johns Hopkins India Institute, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, Wieden+Kennedy, and several other partners. Together, these organizations designed and developed the &ldquo;Teeka Lagwaya Na?&rdquo; campaign. The Johns Hopkins India Institute provided the funding for this campaign. Wieden+Kennedy provided substantial pro bono support. PGIMER, Chandigarh has also been a critical partner and supported the content development for the campaign.
The campaign videos have been written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, a National Film Award-winning director. He worked closely with the campaign partners to develop the vision and content for the films. Varun Grover, a National Film Award-winning lyricist, also contributed to the campaign.
All actors in the films have been fully vaccinated. Production of the films was done in July taking all necessary COVID precautions into account.

India administered more Covid-19 vaccine doses in August than all the G7 nations combined, the government said.
MyGovIndia, in a tweet, said the country administered over 180 million vaccine doses in August, more than all the Group of 7 nations combined which includes Canada, the UK, Japan, US, Italy, Germany and France. 
'India leaves a mark on the Global map of leading its way in vaccinating its population on priority,' the tweet added.

India has administered over 68.46 crore vaccine doses since the start of the nationwide vaccination drive earlier this year.

Govt portal&nbsp;MyGovIndia, in a tweet, said the country administered over 180 million vaccine doses in August, more than all the Group of 7 nations combined which includes Canada, the UK, Japan, US, Italy, Germany and France.
The tweet added that India has left a mark on the global vaccination map.&nbsp;

Caught in a bitter standoff with the Indian govt, Twitter recently appointed a Resident Grievance Officer, days after it designated a Chief Compliance Officer, and released its first India Transparency Report to comply with India's new IT rules.
About 94 per cent of the total global volume of legal demands originated from only five countries - Japan, India, Russia, Turkey, and South Korea.

After WhatsApp took the govt to Court on its new digital rules,&nbsp;social media has erupted in a collective frenzy on whether the messaging platform will now be banned in India.
With statements from the IT minister and other social media platforms like Twitter &amp; Google, it&rsquo;s now clearly about point-scoring.

But why did it get to this?

Let&rsquo;s go back a little.

On February 25, the Centre released a set of new social media guidelines&nbsp;that allow it to exercise more control over platforms like WhatsApp.
These rules essentially require a social media or OTT platform to play by the govt&rsquo;s rules, like taking swift action on government takedown requests, appoint compliance and grievance officers, among others.
However, WhatsApp&rsquo;s problem seems to be with one particular clause.

India's new IT rules include a &ldquo;traceability clause&rdquo; that requires social media platforms to locate the &ldquo;the first originator of a message&rdquo; if needed by the govt.
But why is WhatsApp fighting this &lsquo;traceability&rsquo; clause?
WhatsApp has explained in a blog post why agreeing to &lsquo;traceability&rsquo; will not work.

Tracing a chat or a message to its original sender would mean WhatsApp will have to keep a digital fingerprint of sorts, for every single message sent on the platform.
This would mean that the platform will have to break end-to-end encryption, which is turned on by default for all messages.
End-to-end encryption ensures that no third-party, not even the messaging app itself can track or read messages, only the sender and the receiver can read the message.
Agreeing to the &ldquo;traceability clause&rdquo; would mean re-engineering the entire app just for the Indian market, which is not an option.
That brings us to the next question, why is WhatsApp against finding the &ldquo;originator&rdquo; of a message?
WhatsApp says, in order to trace messages, it will have to add some sort of &ldquo;permanent identity stamp&rdquo; or effectively &lsquo;a digital fingerprint&rsquo; to each message, which it says will be like &ldquo;a mass surveillance program&rdquo;.
Moreover, WhatsApp says even if enforced, it is not fool-proof and could lead to &ldquo;human rights violations.&rdquo;
The blog post goes on to say, that they will have to &ldquo;turn over the names of people who shared something even if they did not create it, or shared it out of concern, or to check its accuracy.&rdquo;
WhatsApp says, that &ldquo;innocent people could get caught up in investigations, or even go to jail, for sharing content that later becomes problematic in the eyes of a government&rdquo;, adding that such an approach will violate &ldquo;recognised principles of free expression and human rights.&rdquo;
Let&rsquo;s simplify it further.
According to WhatsApp, if you simply downloaded an image and shared it, took a screenshot and resent it, or sent an article on WhatsApp that someone emailed you, you would be determined to be the originator of that content, and thereby liable for prosecution!

So, what is WhatsApp saying in Court?
Before the Delhi High Court, WhatsApp is invoking the&nbsp;2017 Justice K S Puttaswamy vs Union of India case&hellip;.
&hellip;to argue that the &ldquo;traceability clause&rdquo; is unconstitutional and against people&rsquo;s fundamental right to privacy as underlined by the Supreme Court.
The social media giant is also challenging the clause which puts &ldquo;criminal liability&rdquo; on its employees for non-compliance.
&nbsp;
But the govt is not taking this lying down either!

The Centre responded to WhatsApp stating that the attempt to portray Intermediary Guidelines of India as contrary to the Right to Privacy is &ldquo;misguided&rdquo;.
The government said that it is committed to the Right to Privacy of citizens, but also has to maintain law and order and ensure national security.
And so, as per all established judicial dictum, no fundamental right, including the right to privacy, is absolute, it is subject to &ldquo;reasonable restrictions&rdquo;.

&nbsp;
But this fight is not the first one, that the govt of India is taking on with a social media behemoth.
There are plenty of precedents for India pushing back on Big Tech
In 2016, TRAI banned Facebook&rsquo;s Free Basics offering&nbsp;over net-neutrality concerns
In 2020, India&nbsp;banned Chinese video app TikTok&nbsp;over data-sharing concerns.
&nbsp;
So, even if WhatsApp dodges the privacy bullet, India&rsquo;s new stringent social media rules pose a potential problem for the Facebook-owned platform.
Now with the chorus growing louder, Twitter &amp; Google have also jumped onto the debate.
Twitter in a statement said, &ldquo;it is concerned about the company&rsquo;s employees in India and the potential threat to freedom of expression for the people it serves&rdquo;, adding that it plans to advocate for changes to these regulations that inhibit free, open public conversation.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, &ldquo;we are very clear about the values of a free and open internet and the benefits it brings and we advocate for it, and we engage constructively with regulators around the world&rdquo;
&nbsp;
After a collective meltdown online, the govt did some damage control of its own, to assure citizens.
Electronics &amp; I-T Minister Ravi&nbsp;Shankar&nbsp;Prasad&nbsp;said, that the government fully recognises &amp; respects the right to privacy and the new IT rules&nbsp;are only aimed at preventing abuse&nbsp;and misuse of social media.&nbsp;The minister said users have nothing to fear about the new rules.
He added that the obligation to reveal the first originator of an offensive message, relates only to offences relating to sovereignty, integrity &amp; security of India, public order, rape, and child sexual abuse.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
But will the govt ban social media platforms like Twitter or Whatsapp?
The govt&rsquo;s own rules seem to suggest otherwise.

Sub-section 1 of Section 79 of the IT rules state that &ldquo;notwithstanding anything contained in any law for the time being in force but subject to the provisions of sub-sections (2) and (3), an intermediary shall not be liable for any third-party information, data, or communication link made available or hosted by him&rdquo;

This just means, social media apps like WhatsApp or Twitter could, at best get a rap on the knuckles for non-compliance with the new rules with regards to any legal proceedings in India. The courts can hold them responsible for the content that is shared or posted on their platforms. But, the new IT Rules 2021 do not mention any ban for non-compliance.
