On World Environment Day 2025, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged citizens to plant trees under the &lsquo;Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam&rsquo; campaign. He also conveyed his wishes on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his greetings and urged citizens to participate in the nationwide campaign &lsquo;Ek Ped Maa ke Naam&rsquo; by planting at least one tree and contributing to environmental protection.
&ldquo;Conservation of nature and environment is both our cultural heritage and responsibility. Under the able leadership and guidance of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has been started to promote environmental conservation,&rdquo; Dhami posted on social media platform X.

He added, &ldquo;Let us all promote this campaign and plant a tree in the name of Mother and ensure our participation in environmental protection.&rdquo;
The campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5, 2024, marks one year this World Environment Day. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change reported that around 80 crore saplings were planted between June and September last year through collaborative efforts by government agencies, local communities, and stakeholders.
Prime Minister Modi also marked the day by encouraging greater commitment to the environment.&nbsp;

The Prime Minister, a day prior, had underlined India&rsquo;s vigorous environmental efforts powered by public participation. Highlighting recent developments, he noted the inclusion of two Rajasthan wetlands&mdash;Khichan in Phalodi and Menar in Udaipur&mdash;as Ramsar sites, bringing India&rsquo;s total to 91 wetlands of international importance.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav called the addition &ldquo;yet another testament to the fact that PM Narendra Modi ji's focus on environmental conservation is successfully helping India build a greener tomorrow.&rdquo;

Meanwhile, CM Dhami also greeted people on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, congratulating devotees who gathered for the holy bath.&nbsp;
Emphasizing the importance of rivers in Indian life, he said, &ldquo;Public life cannot be imagined without Ganga and other holy rivers. Holy rivers are also a matter related to our existence.&rdquo; He urged people to contribute to keeping the Ganga and all water sources pure.

Speaking about Ganga Dussehra, CM Yogi said, "Today is a very auspicious and holy day... On this day, not only the followers of Sanatan Dharma but every Indian's desire to attain salvation was fulfilled... On this auspicious day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the country the Namami Gange Programme. We are grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the bottom of our hearts for this."
Addressing the challenges of climate change and the state's environmental efforts, he added, "The world is going through difficulties. These are man-made and man has to resolve them. That's why PM Narendra Modi has asked the citizens to develop a coordination and relationship with nature. He has named it EK Ped Maa Ke Naam."
He further informed, "If monsoon arrives by June 23, which is also the 'Balidan Diwas' of Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, there will be a grand tree plantation event. July 1-7, a Van Mahotsav will be celebrated by the people of the state."
Highlighting the targets for tree planting, CM Yogi said, "This year's goal is to plant more than 35 crore trees. This (tree plantation) will go on till August 15. 210 crore trees have been planted in the last eight years, and 75-80 per cent of those trees are still alive. I wish Ganga Dussehra and World Environment Day to the citizens of the state."
