Picture this. You&rsquo;re in the market for a new flagship smartphone that costs under ₹60,000. You want a set of good cameras, excellent performance, and a design that turns heads. If that&rsquo;s your dream scenario, then it&rsquo;s time for me to tell you to wake up because this is my review of the iQOO 9T.
<h3>Performance</h3>
Let's start with performance, which is one of the biggest highlights of the iQoo 9T, mostly thanks to the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset under the hood. It&rsquo;s the latest and greatest from Qualcomm, and it seems that all the problems with the previous generation have been addressed on this new processor. I also had 12GB LPDDR5 RAM on this variant, but you can also get it with 8GB RAM.&nbsp; In my short testing period with the iQoo 9T, I experienced no heating or throttling issues, whether I was taking loads of videos, playing graphic intensive titles like COD Mobile or Apex Legends, or just doing day-to-day multi-tasking. &nbsp; It&rsquo;s not all the chipset though, because the 9T also gets a large vapor chamber liquid cooling system to help with heat management on the device.&nbsp; I ran the phone through some synthetic benchmarks, and here&rsquo;s how the iQoo 9T performed: &nbsp; In a single run of Geekbench, the 9T scored a single-core score of 1318 and a multi-core score of 4114. In the Geekbench compute test, it scored 6449.&nbsp; In 3D Mark&rsquo;s Wild Life test, the 9T maxed out, delivering stellar performance. Even in the longer Wild Life Stress Test, it scored 91.9% stability, which is very good for a chipset at this level.&nbsp; Now, these were just preliminary results from a few popular benchmarking apps, but if you want to see an in-depth gaming performance test, let us know in the comments below.

<h3>Design &amp; Utility</h3>
In terms of aesthetics, iQoo has always set itself apart, and with the 9T, it&rsquo;s more of the same. I received the &lsquo;Legend&rsquo; variant, which is made in partnership with BMW, so it gets this red, black and blue stripe down the white back. The camera section is housed in the giant black rectangle that gets a sort of carbon-fibre pattern and the branding for the V1+ chip.&nbsp; The side rails are metal and finished in matte, and while this isn&rsquo;t exactly a unibody design, iQoo has done a great job of making it look very premium. There&rsquo;s also some nice attention to detail, like the blue power button that sits in a recess along with the volume rocker.&nbsp; Despite being quite large, the 9T doesn&rsquo;t feel extremely heavy in the hand, but it does have a nice weight to it. There&rsquo;s a USB Type-C port at the bottom along with the SIM card tray and the stereo speakers which get adequately loud, but seemed to be tuned to offer more output from the bottom speaker rather than the earpiece.&nbsp; You also get an Infrared blaster at the top of the phone to control compatible house-hold appliances which is a nice feature to see at this price point. The 9T is also IP 52 rated, which isn&rsquo;t the best in terms of protection from water, but it is still good to see IP certification in a segment where many rivals exclude it.
<h3>Display</h3>
Now, the iQoo 9T gets a fantastic display, it&rsquo;s a 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED panel, with a full-HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Colour reproduction is fairly accurate, while still offering a vibrant experience while watching content. Speaking of content, not only is the display HDR 10+ compatible, it also gets HDR 10 &ndash; HEVC certification for Netflix, which is a big plus. Thanks to this, you get great contrast levels on HDR content, offering an enhanced viewing experience.&nbsp; Another big plus is the almost uniform bezels&mdash;they'd be perfect if it wasn&rsquo;t for a slightly bigger chin at the bottom. That being said, this display is a joy to use, and even though it doesn&rsquo;t get LTPO technology to ramp down the 120Hz refresh rate, iQoo says the E5 AMOLED panel will consume 25% less battery than an E4 AMOLED panel. &nbsp; The iQoo 9T also houses a fingerprint scanner inside the display that&rsquo;s placed lower down and was both quick and consistent in unlocking the phone.

<h3>Cameras</h3>
Let&rsquo;s move on to cameras because the iQoo 9T has a pretty interesting setup that isn&rsquo;t often seen at this price point. It gets a 50MP Samsung GN5 primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, along with a 13MP Ultra-wide camera and a 12MP sensor dedicated to portrait images.&nbsp; Pictures taken with that primary sensor in well-lit outdoor situations are fairly decent, with a good amount of vibrancy and sharpness. HDR is strong, but well-controlled, and it never looks overdone. &nbsp; The 13MP ultrawide also offers pretty great pictures with not a lot of distortion, but there is quite a bit of difference in colour reproduction compared to the main sensor.&nbsp; Get close-enough to a subject and the 9T will automatically turn on the super macro mode using that ultrawide sensor, and honestly, it produced some pretty detailed, close-up shots.&nbsp; The 12MP sensor offers good results when it comes to portrait images, and can even be used to extend the camera's reach digitally to 20x. Edge detection is pretty good, skin tones and colour accuracy also come out well, and overall, I like this camera setup.&nbsp; However, being an iQoo device, there are some quirks. For instance, some portrait images taken in mixed lighting conditions create this weird whitish effect on the subject&rsquo;s face.&nbsp; Then, there&rsquo;s the issue of no OIS on the 2x sensor. Now, normally, this wouldn&rsquo;t be a huge issue, most smartphone makers just substitute it with EIS, but iQoo has done something different.&nbsp; Let&rsquo;s say you&rsquo;re using the 2x sensor and the camera detects a subject. If at this point you shake your hands a bit too much, the iQoo 9T will immediately switch over to the main sensor and crop in. It&rsquo;s not a big issue, in my opinion, but it does feel a bit odd that there&rsquo;s no way of accurately knowing whether an image is being taken using the dedicated 2x sensor or the primary sensor zoomed in.&nbsp; Anyway, let&rsquo;s move on to night photography, where the iQoo 9T performs fairly well. Low-light images taken with the dedicated Night Mode retain a good amount of colour, pictures come out looking sharp, and there&rsquo;s barely any grain or noise. &nbsp; In terms of video, the 9T&rsquo;s V1+ chip comes handy, because there&rsquo;s excellent colour reproduction, details are clear, and since there&rsquo;s support for 4K 60fps, videos come out looking quite smooth. However, the auto-exposure works quite aggressively, and can end up blowing out highlights in well-lit situations.
<h3>Battery &amp; Software</h3>
Battery life on this phone did not disappoint me at all, because its 4,700mAh unit lasted me a full-days usage, even with the 120Hz refresh rate turned on. If you bump it down, you can probably get it to last longer, but honestly, you won&rsquo;t need to, because of the 9T&rsquo;s party trick. It gets a 120W fast charging adapter in the box, that takes the phone from flat to full in around 20 minutes, which is close to being as good as it gets. Also worth mentioning is the charging cable, which is quite a bit longer than most bundled charging cables I&rsquo;ve seen, but it does tend to plug out of the adapter quite easily if it gets caught in anything.&nbsp; Anyway, let&rsquo;s now move on to the software experience on the iQoo 9T, which does seem to be getting better year on year. Funtouch OS with Android 12 is quite slick to use on this phone, but it does get a fair bit of bloatware, including some which can&rsquo;t be deleted or disabled. Still, you get iQoo's ultra-game mode here that enhances the mobile gaming experience and lets you monitor various parameters at any given point of time.

<h3>Verdict</h3>
Good cameras, excellent performance, and a design that turns heads. The iQoo 9T delivers on all fronts, and its extra features make it even more compelling. At a starting price of ₹49,999, this might just be the best phone in the segment, and if you&rsquo;re looking for outright power, nothing else comes close.&nbsp;

Samsung's&nbsp;Galaxy A73 5G is the most premium A-series from the brand this year, but does it make good on that promise?

The new Samsung Galaxy A73 5G is the most premium device in the brand's A-series line-up this year, and promises to offer a great experience overall, which is what we're going to put to the test.
<h3>Design &amp; Display</h3>
The Galaxy A73 is really well designed, and it looks modern and minimal. The colour I've got with me is the 'Awesome Mint' variant and I have to say, it's really pretty! The back is finished in matte, so it doesn't really pick up fingerprints at all, but it is made of plastic. Speaking of plastic, the frame of the A73 is not metal, even if it's been polished to make it look that way. I do like that Samsung has done this, though, because it gives the phone a striking similarity to the S22 and S22+. Weight-wise, the A73 is just a shade over 180g, making it quite lightweight despite its big size.
The front of the Galaxy A73 gets this big and beautiful 6.7-inch display with a full-HD+ resolution and a buttery smooth 120Hz high refresh rate. In true Samsung fashion, colours are rich and punchy, and using this phone for watching content is a treat. Adding to that experience is Widevine L1 certification and&nbsp;HDR 10 support for Netflix.
It's worth noting that the 120Hz refresh rate is not adaptive, and the A73's display features Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
<h3>Cameras</h3>
Samsung's phones at nearly every price-point are known for their great camera performance, and to help keep that reputation intact, Samsung fitted the A73 with a quad camera system on the back. There's a 108MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 5MP sensors--one for depth and one for macro shots.

In well-lit, outdoor scenarios, the main sensor performed quite well, and I was somewhat surprised to see that Samsung had toned down the over-processed, saturated look that's usually seen on its A-series devices. Colours were quite well preserved, and there was good dynamic range in shots that required it. Being such a high resolution sensor, there was quite a lot of natural depth of field when shooting objects, although I noticed a tearing effect around the edges of the frame at times. Shots taken indoors with mixed lighting conditions were pretty good too, but the camera had a tendency to pick up noise in the darker areas of the frame.
With the ultrawide lens, there was a bit of colour shift in some images compared to the main sensor, but on the whole, the processing was pretty uniform. The field-of-view is quite wide though, so you will notice the phone doing some heavy lifting when it comes to correcting distortion in the frame.
The 5MP depth sensor helped with portrait images, and with good lighting, I got fairly good results. Colour accuracy was mostly on point, and edge detection for such a wide frame was also pretty decent.
The 5MP macro sensor, on the other hand, produced some mixed results. In some close-ups, colours were close to what they looked like in real life, but at times, there was a visible lack of accuracy and detail in the image.
So in terms of overall versatility, the A73 is quite sorted, but I do wish there was a dedicated telephoto lens here like we saw on the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/samsung-galaxy-a52-galaxy-a72-review-what-makes-them-awesome-1617719130317" target="_blank">Samsung&nbsp;Galaxy A72</a>.
When it comes to videos, the A73 shoots at a maximum of 4K 30fps, but for smoother, 60fps filming, you'll have to bump down the resolution to 1080p. It's still good to see that there's optical image stabilisation here though, and there's also an ultra-steady mode to get even more stable footage.
The front 32MP selfie sensor performed really quite well in decently-lit environments, with good detail reproduction and natural skin tones. The portrait mode also showed accurate edge detection and offered pleasing results. It's worth noting that videos with the front camera can be taken at the same resolution and frame rate as the back--4K at 30fps.

<h3>Performance &amp; Software</h3>
Now performance is a bit of an interesting area for the Galaxy A73, because despite being at a value flagship price point, it sports the Snapdragon 778G chipset, and while it is quite a capable performer, it's usually seen on mid-range phones. It's present on phones that are nearly half the price, in some cases, which makes it a bit of an odd choice for the A73. Still, for day-to-day tasks, performance from this chipset is great, and at no point did I feel that the phone was sluggish or struggling to keep up.
Even when playing graphic intensive games like Call of Duty: Mobile, I was able to max out the settings and play comfortably for long sessions without performance taking a hit or thermal throttling being an issue. There's 8GB RAM on tap, no matter what storage variant you buy, so switching through apps idling in the background wasn't a problem either.
Speaking of usage, the user experience on the A73 is excellent, thanks to Android 12 and One UI 4.1 on top, with all of Samsung's customisation options and extra tools. I particularly enjoyed loading up the Good Lock app for the One Handed+ feature, because of how large this phone is. In addition to this, Samsung has also promised 4 years of Android OS updates to the A73 and 5 years of security updates, making it about as future-proof you can in the Android world.
<h3>Battery &amp; Utility</h3>
Now I said earlier that the 120Hz refresh rate on the A73 is not adaptive and eats into battery life, so it's good that Samsung has fitted the phone with a 5,000mAh battery. With moderate usage patterns, I got well over a day's worth of usage, and even with heavy workloads, I wasn't able to kill it in the span of a single day.
Charging also seemed to be pretty well optimised, because 25W fast charging on the A73 took the phone from flat to full in around 80 minutes, which sounds like a lot, but it's also a massive battery unit. Still, it's not all good news here, because like with other A-series devices, there's no charging adaptor in the box, only a Type-C to Type-C cable. So if you want to take advantage of that faster charging, you're going to have to spend Rs. 1,299 buying the adaptor from Samsung.

Another important exclusion is the lack of a headphone jack this time, a blow that is somewhat cushioned by the fact that the stereo speakers are really loud and clear on the A73. There's also an in-display fingerprint scanner that worked well for me, and there's space for microSD card expansion, although it does come at the cost of a second SIM-card since the tray is a hybrid one. Still, it's better than not getting expandable storage at all. You also get an IP67 rating for the A73, which is something other phones at this price and higher tend to miss out on, so I'm glad Samsung is offering it here.
<h3>Price &amp; Verdict</h3>
At a starting price of ₹41,999, I'd be lying if I said the A73 wasn't an expensive phone--it is. And while the chipset is competent enough, it could have been more powerful at this price point. But if you're not someone that needs a super powerful processor, but does need the complete Samsung experience, many years of Android updates, a large battery and a big, beautiful screen, there's only one phone that does all that--the A73.

The <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.editorji.com/tech-news/mobiles/vivo-v23-vivo-v23-pro-smartphones-launched-in-india-check-specs-pricing-1641369183948" target="_blank">Vivo V23 Pro</a> is the latest contender in the premium smartphone segment, launched at a starting price of ₹38,990. Now this is a price point that hasn't seen a lot of love recently, with most devices being launched at a lower, mid-range level, or at a higher, flagship price-point, and so, Vivo decided to take advantage of this situation and launch the V23 Pro. <h3>Design</h3>
So, let's start with the most obvious and most distinctive feature of the Vivo V23 Pro--it's design. Vivo has given this device a very premium, up-market look and feel with a curved edge display and this glass back design. The model we received is finished in the Sunshine Gold colourway, and gets a really neat party trick. The back of the V23 Pro changes its colour depending on how the light hits it, so if you hold it at a certain angle, it looks sort of golden, and at other angles it looks sea green or even blue. Now that's not all that interesting, a lot of phones have done this before, no--what's cool here is that this back glass is sensitive to UV light, so if you take it out in the sun, for example, it changes its colour entirely. This means that if you're indoors, your phone looks golden most of the time but if you step out into the sun and expose the phone's back, your phone looks blue--that's pretty cool. Of course, there&rsquo;s not a lot of functional uses for such a design, but it is cool to play around with, especially if you have some stencils lying around, like this one of Virat Kohli!
Now it's worth mentioning that this trick works with any UV light, not just the sun, and the raised camera module on the back doesn't get this colour-changing feature, and retains its golden hue. Also worth noting is that the back is finished in matte, so fingerprints aren't really visible, unless you're using it outdoors under the sun.

Anyway, apart from the back glass, the sides of the phone are finished in plastic, which initially felt odd to us, because the non-pro variant, the V23 gets a metal frame, and frankly, we expected the Pro variant to follow suit. However, Vivo says it's gone with plastic for the frame of the V23 Pro to make sure the phone is as light as possible, and it certainly is, at around 171g. It&rsquo;s also very thin, at just 7.36mm of thickness.
<h3>Display</h3>
Alright, now let&rsquo;s get into the display of the V23 Pro, because there&rsquo;s a lot to discuss here, and Vivo has certainly made some interesting choices in this department.
For starters, it&rsquo;s a 6.56-inch AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution and a 90Hz screen, but that&rsquo;s not the interesting part, what&rsquo;s surprising is that Vivo has given the V23 Pro a notch. Yes, a notch in 2022, feels a bit like going back in time in terms of design, but if you take a closer look at the notch, you&rsquo;ll see it houses not 1, but two camera sensors. Vivo&rsquo;s thinking here is that the front camera is a pivotal feature in smartphones nowdays, especially with the rise of Instagram Reels and other such apps that make use of selfie cameras. Now yes, of course a notch is more intrusive than a hole-punch setup, but it&rsquo;s worth noting that the notch on the V23 Pro is significantly smaller than the ones we see on iPhones, and if you really want high quality photos and videos from the front camera, Vivo thinks that trade-off is worth making.
Now like we mentioned before, the refresh rate on the screen is 90Hz and we'll admit that it&rsquo;s a bit underwhelming. While competitors priced much lower than this have moved to 120Hz panels, Vivo has stuck with 90Hz on the V23 Pro, which is a bit disappointing.
That being said, it&rsquo;s still a high-quality AMOLED panel that offers vibrant and punchy colours, so it will take care of all your content watching needs without any problems. Also, like we said earlier, it&rsquo;s curved around the edges to give a more bezel-less look around the sides, and to be fair to Vivo, they didn&rsquo;t cause any accidental touches for the duration of our usage.
<h3>Rear Cameras</h3>
Next up, let&rsquo;s move to the rear camera setup on the V23 Pro, which is made up of this triple camera array. It includes a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro sensor.
When it comes to performance, it&rsquo;s clear the primary sensor is meant to do all the heavy lifting, and pictures taken with it do come out quite nicely. There&rsquo;s good depth of field, colours are quite balanced, and there&rsquo;s ample dynamic range. Details come through decently, but if you want to take full advantage of the 108MP sensor, you can turn on the high-resolution mode for more pixels than you&rsquo;ll ever need. Portrait images turned out quite well, whether it was while photographing humans or animals. There&rsquo;s no telephoto or depth sensor here for edge detection, so it&rsquo;s clear that the main sensor&rsquo;s depth of field is coming in to play to provide good portrait shots, along with Vivo&rsquo;s image processing.
However, it&rsquo;s a slightly different story with the ultra-wide sensor, which at 8MP, isn&rsquo;t able to match the performance of the primary sensor when it comes to details and sharpness. Still, it&rsquo;s good to see that despite a wider field of view, images remain mostly free of distortion, and colours don&rsquo;t change dramatically when switching from one sensor to the other, even though there is a bit of difference in terms of brightness.
Similarly, the 2MP macro sensor provides passable results when it comes to getting a close-up shot, but there&rsquo;s certainly something left to be desired in the sharpness and colour department.
But how are things when the sun sets? Well, the V23 Pro comes equipped with plenty of modes to help take low light images, including a Night mode, Tripod mode and Super Night Video mode. Low-light images with the V23 Pro are a bit of a mixed bag. In situations that have at least some light, the camera does well to maintain brightness in highly exposed areas and keep colours fairly accurate. However, in situations with little to no light, there&rsquo;s quite a bit of pixelation and a general lack of detail.
When it comes to video, the V23 Pro can shoot at up to 4K 60fps, which is quite impressive to see, and there&rsquo;s multiple stabilisation modes on offer, although all of it is electronic, no optical image stabilisation here. That&rsquo;s not all that surprising, what is surprising is the number of additional features for video, including the previously mentioned Super Night Mode and a Dual Video mode that lets you shoot with multiple sensors at once. But the one that interested us the most was the Teleprompter mode, which allows you to scroll a portion of text on the screen while recording a video, so if you&rsquo;re vlogging, for example, and keep forgetting what to say, you can write it down and the phone will scroll it for you as you record your video, that&rsquo;s pretty impressive.
<h3>Front Camera</h3>
Let&rsquo;s now move on to the dual front cameras, and&nbsp;similar to the rear setup, there&rsquo;s an 8MP ultra-wide sensor on the front of the V23 Pro, but it's joined by a high resolution 50MP sensor.
This means that selfies get extremely sharp quality, with good detail, excellent colour reproduction and portrait shots with nearly faultless edge detection.
Both indoors and outdoors, in bright lighting and low-light, selfies look nice, natural and crisp. Moreover, there&rsquo;s additional modes like beauty filters, face changes, bokeh styles and much more to take advantage of the dual front camera setup.
<h3>Performance</h3>
When it comes to performance, the V23 Pro is fitted with a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset and upto 12GB of RAM, although the variant we received is the 8GB RAM model with 128GB of storage.
Now this is a chip that we&rsquo;ve seen previously on other phones, both from Vivo and other brands, and both at prices higher and lower compared to the V23 Pro. What&rsquo;s important to remember though, is that it performs well in both day-to-day tasks and under heavy load.
When multi-tasking and switching multiple apps, we faced no issues, and it was the same with graphic intensive gaming. On Call of Duty Mobile, we managed to play at Very High graphic quality with Max frame rate without any dropped frames, lag or stutter.
What we found particularly helpful was Vivo&rsquo;s Game Assistant, which has gotten refreshed to enable quick access to things like the Esports Mode and a Voice Changer. It also gets improved graphic representation of the CPU and GPU usage, and it really feels like Vivo has come a long way in improving its Game Assistant.
It&rsquo;s also worth noting that the Dimensity 1200 is a 5G-enabled chipset, and Vivo has provided support for several 5G bands on the V23 Pro.
<h3>Software</h3>
Now the software is a particularly interesting part of the V23 Pro because it&rsquo;s the first Vivo phone in India to ship with Android 12 out of the box. It&rsquo;s obviously got Vivo&rsquo;s Funtouch OS 12 skin on top, but the interface still includes the Privacy Dashboard and icons in the top right corner for when the camera and mic are accessed.
There is, of course, RAM expansion as well, that helps make the user experience quick and snappy.
However, like other Vivo devices, the V23 Pro comes with a fair bit of bloatware, but all third-party apps can be uninstalled to get a cleaner experience.
<h3>Utility</h3>
On the utility front, the V23 Pro comes equipped with a USB-C port and a dual-SIM tray. There&rsquo;s no microSD card expansion, so we would suggest buying the 256GB storage variant if you&rsquo;re planning on getting this phone.
There is however, an in-display fingerprint scanner, which works well and is quick to unlock the phone.
It&rsquo;s worth noting that the Vivo V23 Pro does not come with stereo speakers, which we think is a bit of a miss, and is a useful feature that should have been included.
<h3>Battery</h3>
In terms of battery, there&rsquo;s a 4,300mAh battery on the V23 Pro, which is slightly on the smaller side, but still respectable enough by modern standards.
With the refresh rate set to 90Hz, we got little over a day&rsquo;s worth of usage on average, and on days we really pushed the phone, we did manage to finish off the battery in under a day.
However, there is support for 44W fast charging on the Vivo V23 Pro, which is good to see in times when other big manufacturers are moving away from including charging adapters with their phones altogether. The included 44W adaptor got the V23 Pro from flat to full in just around an hour during our testing.
<h3>Verdict</h3>
To sum up, the Vivo V23 Pro is a smartphone that concentrates on&nbsp;delivering a unique design experience combined with&nbsp;good screen quality and excellent selfie cameras.&nbsp;While it can't&nbsp;quite compete with phones that focus on rear camera performance, we still think it delivers&nbsp;plenty of value.
