The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a boycott of shoots in the Maldives amid growing tension between India and the island nation.
Condemning the Maldivian minister&rsquo;s recent remarks on PM Narendra Modi, the film industry workers' union asked its members and others to join the ban with them. In a statement, they urged filmmakers to opt for &lsquo;similar locations in India.&rsquo;
The official statement reads, &lsquo;In view of the growing row between India and Maldives over the derogatory statement issued by three ministers of Maldives, the FWICE which is the oldest and largest Federal body of the workers, technicians and artists working in the media and entertainment industry, strongly condemns the most irresponsible and ridiculous remarks of the ministers of Maldives passed on globally respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. In solidarity with the nation and its wide culture, the members of the FWICE have decided to boycott Maldives for their shooting locations. Instead, the FWICE appeals its members to choose similar locations in India for their shooting purpose and contribute towards developing the tourism in India.&rsquo;
&lsquo;All the producers in India and over the globe are hereby advised not to plan any shootings or production activities in Maldives. We all stand in strong support towards our Prime Minister and our Nation,&rsquo; the statement further read.
The move comes days after prominent personalities from Maldives mocked India and its Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pitch to visit Indian islands. PM Modi had recently visited Lakshadweep and he shared images of his beach relaxation and snorkeling to promote the islands.
Following this, numerous celebrities who frequently visit the Maldives began promoting Indian islands like Lakshadweep. Notable names including Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Shraddha Kapoor showcased the pristine blue waters of these Indian destinations in their posts.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the government to stop Boycott Bollywood trend and sought protection against hooliganism in theatres.&nbsp;
Releasing a statement, FWICE said that a lot of people work on a film along with the director or the lead cast and boycotting a movie affects their livelihood too.&nbsp;
FWICE said that the Boycott Bollywood trend has 'raised a major situation of survival of the common workers, technicians and the artistes who are earning their daily bread from this industry'.&nbsp;
The statement added that a film is made with a lot of passion and dreams of success but these get shattered by such trends. &nbsp;The film industry workers' union highlighted incidents in which people have been entering movie theatres, threatening the public and vandalising the place. Many actors are being abused on social media platforms with vulgar language on a daily basis, it added.&nbsp;
FWICE concluded the statement by suggesting that if someone has an issue with any film&rsquo;s content, they should write about it to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).&nbsp;

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has sent a notice to 'Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul' producers Alind Shrivastava and Nissar Parvez, claiming negligence on their part on the sets of the show. The notice alleged that the makers prioritised money and business over the safety of their cast and crew, saying, "The producers are only interested in earning money". This comes after 20-year-old Tunisha Sharma allegedly committed suicide on the set of her TV show.
The notice also mentioned Tunisha's death and how it sent shockwaves across the industry. "All the crew members are hired by the producers for their project and hence it is the responsibility of the producers to look after the well-being, safety and security of the crew members. FWICE strongly demands action on the producers of the show 'Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul' as the liability of the safety, security of all the crew members depends upon them," the statement said.
Alleging negligence by the producers on the set, FWICE further said, "It is mandatory to deploy a well-equipped ambulance for the safety of the crew. However, on the sets of Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul, the ambulance was not found. Tunisha was carried in a private vehicle to the hospital where she was declared dead."
