Healthy diet and lifestyle are crucial for staying mentally and physically fit. However, hanging out with friends is also great way to be healthier. According to a recent study, people with strong friendships have better mental and physical health.&nbsp;
In the study, researchers found that people with larger social network have lower risk of premature death. It was a six-year study done on 736 middle-aged Swedish men. It was found that having a life partner has no effect on the risk of heart attack or fatal heart disease but having friends does.&nbsp;
So, next time before cancelling a plan with friends, think twice.&nbsp;

"A friend in need is a friend indeed." We all have grown up hearing this proverb and have hence, embraced beautiful bonds with our friends throughout our lives.&nbsp;
But does that stand for friends only from the same age group as ours? Probably not. According to recent research, friends of different ages can also connect on a positive note with a sense of belonging and enjoy each other's company. Like-minded people from any age group can bond and help reduce the void in each other&rsquo;s lives.&nbsp;
As per researchers, people between the ages of 16-24, are more prone to loneliness, isolation and depression due to career choices, change in city or lifestyle.&nbsp;
For the study, the team interviewed participants from different age groups who had friends from other age groups, and found out that friendship between older and younger people promote involvement and belongingness in society, while also sharing different life experiences with each other.&nbsp;
Younger participants told how their older friends provided great advice and support about life, career and dating that their friends of similar ages couldn't.&nbsp;
The participants said different viewpoints, opinions, and interests made them learn every day. On a lighter note, with evolving new terms on social media and in pop culture society, it is always safe to have a Gen Z by your side. Wink! &nbsp;
So, &lsquo;age is just a number&rsquo;, is making much more sense now. Ain&rsquo;t it?

Challenges and crises like the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdown have disoriented friendships and created distance amongst people the world over. This International Day of Friendship, let us confront the distance and help promote friendship and solidarity.
Proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly, the day aims at creating friendships across borders, countries and cultures. Even though the UN has designated 30th July as the International Day of Friendship, India observes this day on the first Sunday of August. This year India shall celebrate the spirit of camaraderie on the 1st of August.
The UN established this day in an attempt to encourage governments and organisations to hold events and activities in order to build bridges between communities and inspire peace. But recognising the sentiments of friendship can be difficult during a global pandemic and lockdown. So much so that even sharing a cup of tea with your neighbours is not possible due to the Covid&nbsp;safety restrictions.&nbsp;
What you can do on a personal level in order to weave a joyous net of friendship is conduct virtual reading sessions, tea parties, movie or game nights, order food for one another and even enjoy a drink together. And if you want to try something old school then you can always send letters.
