Investment into Paytm has been ramped up as domestic retail investors have hiked their stakes in the fintech by 1.68%. New foreign portfolio investors including New York-based Tiger Pacific Capital, Societe Generale, France&rsquo;s third-largest listed bank, and Norway&rsquo;s Government Pension Fund Global have also invested in Paytm.&nbsp;
<h3>Paytm Shareholding</h3>
As per Moneycontrol, the latest shareholding pattern for the quarter ended March 2024 shows retail investors held 14.53% stake in Paytm, a jump from 12.85% previously, as mutual funds (MFs) boosted their holdings further.&nbsp;
The stock exchange filings also show that the holdings by mutual funds have increased to 6.15% from 4.99% in the previous quarter with Mirae Asset Mutual Fund, raising stake to 3.76% from 2.51% in the December quarter, and Nippon India Mutual Fund at 1.66%.

Due to this the total stake held by domestic institutional investors, including alternate investment funds and insurance companies, recorded an increase of 0.8% to 4,35,68,764 shares.
Meanwhile, provident funds or pension funds that held 0.05% stake has now taken an exit, mentioned the Moneycontrol report. However, non-resident Indians (NRIs) brought some additional shares with 0.85 percent holding in the said quarter.
<h3>Foreign Portfolio Investment</h3>
Even as Foreign Portfolio Investors of Category 1 and 2 have raised their stakes in Paytm by more than 15 million shares, foreign instutions' holdings have dropped to 60.4% from 63.72% as Foreign Direct Investment dropped.
SoftBank (SVF India Holdings (Cayman) Limited) reduced stake to 1.4% in Q4FY24 while others, including Jack Ma-founded Antifin, Resilient Asset Management, and Saif Partners continued with almost same shares. &nbsp;
In the FPI category, with entry of new investors, Paytm&rsquo;s previous foreign institutional investors&mdash;BNP Paribas Arbitrage and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. As per Moneycontrol, New York and Hong Kong-based Tiger Pacific Master Fund made an entry in the quarter with 65,79,135 shares at 1.04% stake.
This was followed by Goldman Sachs (Singapore) Pte with 84,01,067 shares (1.32% holding), France&rsquo;s third largest listed bank--Societe Generale--with 89,01,090 shares (1.40%), Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore) Pte with 100,95,350 shares (1.59%), under the ODI route.
One of the World's largest Pension Fund, Norway&rsquo;s Government Pension Fund Global now has 1.34% holding with 85,03,220 shares in Paytm.
Overall, the total FPI shareholding increased by 2% at 20.64 percent.

Foreign Portfolio Investors have offloaded Indian equities worth a whopping ₹24,700 crore in January, raising eyebrows in financial circles. The key catalyst behind this move is the surge in bond yields in the United States.
Data from depositories reveals that FPIs have, however, maintained a bullish stance in the debt market, injecting ₹17,120 crore during the same period. The net investment in Indian equities for January stands at ₹24,734 crore, a significant dip compared to the robust investments of ₹66,134 crore in December&nbsp;
V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, points to the rising bond yields in the US as the primary cause for concern, triggering the recent sell-off in the cash market. He notes that the global stock market rally was initially fueled by the Fed's pivot, causing the 10-year bond yield to drop from 5% to around 3.8%. However, the current rebound to 4.18% indicates that a Fed rate cut may only materialize in the second half of 2024, reported Business Today.
Entering the new year cautiously, FPIs adopted a profit-booking strategy in the Indian equity markets, especially as they reached all-time highs. Uncertainty surrounding the interest rate scenario further compelled FPIs to remain on the sidelines, awaiting clearer signals before making investment decisions in emerging markets like India.
In contrast, FPIs have shown a positive inclination towards the debt market, with experts attributing the trend to JP Morgan Chase &amp; Co.'s announcement last September to include Indian government bonds in its benchmark emerging market index from June 2024. The debt market witnessed FPI investments of ₹18,302 crore in December, ₹14,860 crore in November, and ₹6,381 crore in October.
Notable sector-wise movements include FPIs selling in auto &amp; auto ancillary, media &amp; entertainment, and marginally in IT, while buying in oil and gas, power, and selectively in financial services. The total FPI flows for 2023 stood at ₹1.71 lakh crore in equities and ₹68,663 crore in the debt market, with a combined infusion of ₹2.4 lakh crore into the capital market. This follows a challenging year in 2022, marked by a worst net outflow of ₹1.21 lakh crore due to aggressive global central bank rate hikes. Prior to this, FPIs had consistently invested over the past three years.

This could be attributed to the softening of US Treasury yields and the resilience of the domestic market. In November, FPIs have invested Rs 9,001 crore in Indian equities.
In the domestic debt market the FPI hit a six-year high in November. This was driven by robust yields and the domestic bonds' inclusion in JPMorgan's Emerging Market Global Bond Index.

Foreign portfolio investors have infused Rs 14,556 crore as of Nov. 29, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd. The previous highest monthly inflow by FPIs was recorded in October 2017.

In the first 15 days of the month the FPI flows were negative. However, the quantum was less than the previous fortnights. As per the NSDL data, foreign investors have bought equities worth Rs 1,14,716 crore so far this year.
"FPIs have reversed their selling strategy in India. Decline in U.S. bond yields and the resilience of the Indian market have forced the FPIs to halt their selling," Dr VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services told BQPrime. He further added that the better-than-expected decline in inflation in the US has given investors confidence that the US FED will pause the rate hike.
In most sessions over the month the FPI inflow experienced a downward trend after the US Treasury Yields peaked at 5% in October. The Nifty50 also recorded its best month of 2023 in November with 5.52% gains.

As the month of September draws to a close, Indian equities find themselves facing an unusual scenario - Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have turned into net sellers for the first time in seven months. The exit of foreign investors from Indian markets has been driven by several factors, including rising bond yields and the allure of a stronger US Dollar.
So far this month, FPIs have withdrawn over $1.5 billion from Indian equities, marking a significant shift from their previous buying spree. According to Bloomberg data, FPIs had collectively poured $21.3 billion into Indian shares between March and August, with a significant portion of these inflows attributed to Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and increased secondary sales.
One sector that has witnessed FPI profit-taking is the power sector, with stocks like REC and PFC reaching record highs. Between September 1-15, FPIs sold power sector shares worth $500 million, a notable contrast to the $1.4 billion they invested in these stocks the previous month.
Metal stocks, on the other hand, continue to experience selling pressure due to a stronger US Dollar and a sluggish Chinese economy. In the first half of September, FPIs sold shares worth $549 million in the metal and mining sector, following nearly $840 million in sales during August.
Despite the sector-specific profit-taking, FPIs are maintaining their faith in the financial services sector, with investments totalling $772 million in the first half of September. This sector accounts for more than one-third (33%) of FPI investments, followed by IT (10.04%) and Oil &amp; Gas (8.68%).
As of September 15, FPIs' Assets Under Custody (AUC) stood at $666.3 billion, equivalent to approximately 18% of India's overall market capitalization. In comparison to other emerging markets, Taiwan witnessed the largest outflows in September, amounting to over $5.5 billion.

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) continued their buying stance and pumped in close to Rs 9,800 crore in Indian equities this month so far, on strong economic growth and attractive valuations of stocks. According to the data, FPIs invested a net sum of Rs 9,788 crore in Indian equities during June 1-9.
This came following a nine-month high investment of Rs 43,838 crore in equities in May,&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Rs 11,631 crore in April, and Rs 7,936 crore in March, data with the depositories showed.
Before that, FPIs had pulled out over Rs 34,000 crore during the January-February period.
Further, the outlook for FPI flows in the rest of June is positive as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has signaled that it will not be raising interest rates shortly, which is a positive sign for equity markets, Mayank Mehraa, Smallcase manager and principal partner at financial consultancy Craving Alpha, said.
However, valuation could become a concern as Indian markets continue to surge and stricter regulatory norms could also check foreign money flowing into India to some extent, Himanshu Srivastava, Associate Director - Manager Research, Morningstar India, said.

The inflow could be attributed to too strong economic growth, relatively attractive valuations of Indian stocks compared to other large emerging markets, and confidence about the positive policy outlook from the government, Mehraa said.
Morningstar India's Srivastava said the agreement on the US debt ceiling reaching its conclusion has had a positive impact on the Indian markets as well as overall investor sentiments.
In addition, foreign investors have been focussing on Indian equities for a while now given the resilience it has shown amid uncertain times and since India is better placed as an economy compared with other similar markets, he added.
In terms of sectors, foreign investors may continue buying in financials and autos since the prospects of these sectors look promising.
Apart from equities, FPIs invested Rs 592 crore in the debt market during the period under review due to the attractive yields offered by Indian debt securities.
So far in 2023, foreign investors have put in Rs 39,000 crore in Indian equities and Rs 8,100 crore in debt markets.

Foreign portfolio investors&nbsp;turned net sellers in Indian markets by pulling out ₹2,038 crore so far in September as investors turned cautious in view of rising Indo-China tensions and weak global cues.
According to the depositories data, a net ₹3,510 crore was withdrawn from equities, while ₹1,472 crore was pumped into debts by FPIs between September 1 and 11.
FPIs were net buyers for three consecutive months -- June to August. They invested ₹46,532 crore in August, ₹3,301 crore in July and ₹24,053 crore in June on a net basis.
