Despite industrial and economic growth, the nation fails to feed its citizens.&nbsp;According to FAO estimates, 14% of India's population or&nbsp;189.2mn people are undernourished.&nbsp;Further, 34.7% of children under five in India are stunted or too short for their age and 20% weigh too low for their height.&nbsp;
In a grave contrast, nearly one-third of the food produced in the world gets wasted every year. 40% of fruits and vegetables and 30% of cereals produced for consumption in India are lost due to ineffective supply chain management every year.

ARRIVAL OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Five Rafale aircraft arrived on July 29, 2020 at Ambala Air Force Station and were formally inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF) on September 10, 2020. These five are part of the 36 finalised in a multi-billion dollar intergovernmental deal with France by Prime Minister Modi. The three single-seat and two twin-seat omni-role fighters were flown by seven IAF pilots in a ferry from France. These are part of 17 Squadron, the &ldquo;Golden Arrows&rdquo;, which was resurrected on September 10, 2019. The Squadron was originally raised at Air Force Station, Ambala on October 1, 1951. It is a qualitative addition to the combat capabilities of the IAF. The ability to strike air-to-air targets from up to 150 km away and safely hit land targets 300 km within enemy territory make Rafale one of the deadliest fighter jets flying in the world, known for air-superiority and precision strikes. The state-of-the-art 4.5 Generation Rafale jet can reach almost double the speed of sound, with a top speed of 1.8 Mach. The aircraft can carry a range of potent weapons and also fly with SPECTRA - widely considered to be the world&rsquo;s most advanced fighter-based electronic warfare suite.

A galaxy of dignitaries including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, his French counterpart Florence Parly, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria and Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar will attend the ceremony.
"The program will include ceremonial unveiling of the Rafale aircraft, a traditional 'Sarva Dharma Puja', air display by Rafale and Tejas aircraft as well as by 'Sarang aerobatic team'," an IAF spokesperson said, describing the ceremony as a "very important milestone" in the history of the force.
The Rafale jets, produced by French aerospace major Dassault Aviation, are known for air-superiority and precision strikes.
IAF Spokesperson Wing Commander Indranil Nandi said a traditional water cannon salute will be given to the Rafale fleet before its ceremonial induction into the 17 squadron of the force.
The first batch of five Rafale jets arrived in India on July 29, nearly four years after India signed an inter-governmental agreement with France to procure 36 of the aircraft at a cost of Rs 59,000 crore.
The French delegation at the ceremony will include French envoy Emmanuel Lenain, Air Gen Eric Autellet, Vice Chief of French Air Force, Chairman and Chief Executive of Dassault Aviation Eric Trappier and CEO of missile maker MBDA Eric Beranger.
After the ceremony, Parly and Singh will hold talks in Ambala on ways to further deepen bilateral defence and security cooperation after the ceremony, they said.
Ten Rafale jets have been delivered to India so far and five of them stayed back in France for imparting training to IAF pilots. The delivery of all 36 aircraft is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021. A second batch of four to five Rafale jets are likely to arrive in India by November. Sources said a preliminary discussion on a possible procurement of another batch of 36 Rafale jets by India from France may figure in the talks between Singh and Parly.
