An Ahmednagar McDonald's joint's license has been cancelled by Maharashtra FDA after it was found they were using cheap vegetable oils and cheese alternatives instead of real cheese. The food regulator has accused the McD joint to be misleading customers into thinking they are consuming real cheese.

According to Times of India, Abhimanyu Kale, FDA Commissioner said that during inspection, the officers did not find any cheese analogues anywhere on the labels of the food items. Items like 'cheese nuggets' or 'cheesy dips' were labelled as such without indicating that the cheese was a substitute.&nbsp;
<h3>Vegetable oil on the other hand has various health hazards</h3>
High in Omega-6 Fatty Acids: Many vegetable oils, such as soybean, corn, and sunflower oil, are high in omega-6 fatty acids. While these fats are essential in moderation, excessive consumption can lead to inflammation, which is linked to various chronic diseases.
Increased Risk of Heart Disease: Vegetable oils are often high in polyunsaturated fats, which, when consumed in excess, can contribute to an imbalance of fatty acids in the body and increase the risk of heart disease.
Production of Harmful Compounds at High Temperatures: When heated to high temperatures during cooking, vegetable oils can produce harmful compounds such as aldehydes, which are associated with oxidative stress and inflammation in the body.
Potential for Oxidation: Vegetable oils are prone to oxidation, especially when exposed to heat, light, and air. Oxidized oils can release free radicals in the body, which may contribute to cellular damage and increase the risk of chronic diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's.
Trans Fat Formation: Some vegetable oils undergo hydrogenation, a process that converts liquid oils into solid fats to increase shelf life and stability. This process can produce trans fats, which are known to raise LDL cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart disease.
Impact on Blood Sugar Levels: Certain vegetable oils, particularly those high in omega-6 fatty acids, may contribute to insulin resistance and higher blood sugar levels when consumed excessively.
Allergic Reactions: Individuals with allergies to specific vegetable oils, such as soybean or peanut oil, may experience allergic reactions if exposed to these oils during cooking.

USFDA recently approved an eye drop that can eliminate the need for reading glasses.

The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has recently approved a new type of eye drop which can eliminate the need for reading glasses.
Called Vuity, the drop can be applied to each eye once a day. As per researchers, the eye drop starts working within 15 minutes of application and lasts for at least six hours.
Vuity has been designed to rapidly adjust to the pH of the tear film. It is most effective for those between the ages of 40 and 55 and less effective for people older than 65.&nbsp;
The new eye drop will cost $79 for a 30-day usage. As of now, the drops have shown no serious side effects. However, some patients experienced mild headaches and eye redness.

Not all food decorative glitters are safe to eat, warns the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). By law, edible glitters and dust products must list their ingredients. Edible ingredients include cornstarch, sugar and colour additives. According to the FDA, only glitters that mention 'edible' on the label are safe to use. If the product just mentions 'non-toxic', it should be avoided. 

The Maharashtra government recently announced that it will make food adulteration a non-bailable offence and offenders will be given a life-time imprisonment for the same. The malpractices in Maharashtra have continued the despite regular visits by the Food and Drug Administration. Substances like detergent powder and urea are added to milk for preservation, thereby threatening the life of consumers. The Prevention of Food Adulteration Act will be amended to accommodate  the new ruling.

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a new antiviral flu drug, for the first time in 20 years. The approval was based on two clinical trials of more than 1,800 patients. Called Xofluza, a single oral dose of the drug can treat an uncomplicated flu for patients above the age of 12. If used within 48 hours of catching an infection, Xofluza can also reduce chances of complications like pneumonia.
