A fashion show in Gulmarg during Ramadan sparked backlash due to disregard for local cultural sensitivities, drawing criticism from political and religious leaders.

A recent fashion show held in the renowned ski resort of Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, during the fasting month of Ramadan has come under intense scrutiny.
The event has been criticized for featuring models in revealing outfits, sparking widespread outrage from both political and religious figures.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his understanding of the public's reaction, acknowledging the deep shock and anger felt by locals. He has promptly requested a detailed report on the incident within 24 hours and assured that appropriate action will be taken. "The images I have seen show a complete disregard for local sensitivities, especially during this holy month," Mr. Abdullah commented, emphasizing the need for cultural respect.
Senior cleric and chairman of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also voiced strong disapproval. Describing the event as "outrageous," he stated that such acts in the name of promoting tourism are unacceptable in the region known for its Sufi heritage and religious traditions.
Farooq called for accountability for those involved, emphasizing that the cultural and moral fabric of the region must be preserved. The controversy was further fueled by social media, where images of the models circulated widely, leading to public condemnation.
Raja Muzaffar Bhat, a well-known social activist, criticized the event as an assault on the region's values. "Who permitted this fashion show in Gulmarg during Ramadan? This act of men and women in scanty clothing walking on snow raises serious cultural concerns," he asserted in a post, questioning the roles of the Tourism Department and the Gulmarg Development Authority.
In response to the backlash, Omar Abdullah's office is coordinating with local authorities to address the issue, highlighting the importance of maintaining the cultural integrity of Jammu and Kashmir during significant religious periods.

Apart from Schiaparelli and Christian Dior, renowned Indian designer Rahul Mishra showcased his latest collection at the Haute Couture Week in Paris on June 3.&nbsp;
The designer honoured his artisans by naming the collection 'We, the People' and labelled it as a 'collective dream'.&nbsp;
The designs presented by Mishra boasted his signature style and India took the centerstage; be it embroidery or the tiger resting gracefully at the outfits. Models were seen wearing outfits made of sheer and sequin fabric.
Another highlight of the show was the sheer pink saree as many social media users compared it with one that Zendaya had worn at the launch of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. Apart from her, Gigi Hadid had also donned an outfit designed by Mishra for the event which was held in Mumbai.&nbsp;
Apart from Mishra, ace Indian designer Gaurav Gupta is also all set to showcase his Haute Couture Fall/Winter collection on July 6 in Paris.&nbsp;

It was a walk of survival. 25 young cancer survivors were on the ramp in the Bolivian capital, at a charity fashion event. Between 16 to 25 years of age, the models were from 13 different countries. Some of the survivors were young amputees, who had lost their limbs and other body parts to the disease. The Bionic Fashion Day was started in 2013 and has encouraged youngsters, who have fought their battle against cancer with Bolivian designers chipping in to design their clothes

Fashion Week in Tbilisi saw Georgian designers unravel their spring/summer collections. Designer Anouki Areshidze's show presented her shoes, accessories and ready to wear clothes inspired by the Tbilisi of the 1970s and 1980s. Florals, polka dots and hues of pink, white, black and red were dominant. Georgian designer George Keburia showcased more relaxed silhouettes, the show saw masculine accents with a feminine aesthetic. Different textures and lime green shades were the highlights of his collection.

The catwalk show on Friday showcased the work of budding designers, including some who have just finished their education. The show saw a combination of haute couture pieces as well as pret-a-porter collections including some for children.
