On a day that Haryana-based Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni) president Gurnam Singh Chaduni decided to float his own political party, 32 farmer unions from Punjab met to decide whether they should take the political plunge or not, the Indian Express has reported. 
The 32 farmers unions are part of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an amalgam of 40 farmer unions that spearheaded the agitation against Centre's controversial farm laws. 
The unions met in Ludhiana to discuss if they should float their own party, extend support to any political party or steer clear of it entirely. 
But they failed to reach a consensus and have decided to meet again on December 20, according to the Indian Express report. 
The Bhartiya Kisan Union Ugrahan, the largest farmer union of Punjab, stayed away from the meeting and made it clear that they would not be part of any political front as their sole objective is to remain dedicated to farmer issues.

Singing, dancing and cheering, farmers on Saturday headed back home from Delhi borders after dismantling their tents and other structures at the end of a year-long sit-in against the Centre's agricultural laws. They were accorded a rousing welcome in the neighbouring states with sweets, garlands and showering of petals from aircraft.
Emotions ran high as the farmers performed prayers and 'havan' to  and started their "victory march" from Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur protest sites to Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in convoys of tractors, bedecked with colourful flowers and lights and blaring songs of jubilation.

By Saturday evening, most farmers cleared the Singhu border protest site spread over 5-6 kilometers, leaving behind some tents.
Similarly, at the Ghazipur border, the process of dismantling shelters was in full swing, but one of the protesting farmers said the site will be completely vacated by December 15.
At the Tikri border also, the protest site was almost cleared. A senior police officer from outer district said the process of removal of barricades has started.
People gathered at many places on the Delhi-Karnal-Ambala and Delhi-Hisar national highways as well as other routes, welcoming and honouring the farmers with garlands and sweets.

But this 'langar' is not a one-day affair. Restaurant owner Ram Singh Rana has been serving food to the protesting farmers for over a year and now that that they are returning home, he is elated for what he now calls his 'family'
'My happiness knows no bounds. I will keep serving langar till the last farmer leaves. They are like my family now and I will stand with them till I die', Rana said.
Rana was also allegedly harassed by local Haryana officials. They reportedly put boulders in front of his house in June this year to block the entrance to the dhaba. He then received support from farmers unions and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to repeal the three contentious farm laws, the spotlight is now also on hundreds of cases filed against the protesting farmers across the country.
Some of the farmers were also booked under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. It is unclear whether the government will take back these cases or police will file closure reports or charge sheets in these matters.Unnamed sources told News18 that most of the cases are criminal in nature and deal with vandalism, violation of orders, breaking government orders.
The union home ministry had informed Parliament in February this year that in Delhi, 39 cases were registered against farmers protesting against the agricultural laws.
Investigation into these cases is underway. One of the cases also involves green activist Disha Ravi in which the Dellhi Police had claimed that a conspiracy was hatched by pro-Khalistan activists.
According to a statement by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, cases have been filed in Haryana against more than 2,500 persons.
The Haryana government, meanwhile, informed in the assembly that 136 cases have been filed against farmers protesting over the three laws. Reports say in some police stations in the state, officers registered cases against protesters and booked close to 10,000 unknown farmers. 26 FIRs were registered in Sonepat district, 15 in Ambala and 14 in Kurukshetra.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to repeal the three contentious farm laws, the spotlight is now also on hundreds&nbsp;of cases filed against the protesting farmers across the country.
Some of the farmers were also booked under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. It is unclear whether the government will take back these cases or police will file closure reports or charge sheets in these matters. Unnamed sources told News18 that most of the cases are criminal in nature and deal with vandalism, violation of orders, breaking government orders.

The union home ministry had informed Parliament in February this year that in Delhi, 39 cases were registered against farmers protesting against the agricultural laws.
Investigation into these cases is underway. One of the cases also involves green activist Disha&nbsp;Ravi&nbsp;in which the Dellhi&nbsp;Police had claimed that a conspiracy was hatched by pro-Khalistan&nbsp;activists.
According to a statement by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, cases have been filed in Haryana against more than 2,500 persons.
The Haryana government, meanwhile, informed in the assembly that 136 cases have been filed against farmers protesting over the three laws. Reports say in some police stations in the state, officers registered cases against protesters and booked close to 10,000 unknown farmers. 26 FIRs were registered in Sonepat district, 15 in Ambala and 14 in Kurukshetra.

Terming the withdrawal of the three farm laws "historic", Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Hannan Mollah said on Friday that the farmers' have only achieved half of their objective and they will now press for a law to guarantee minimum support price (MSP).
Mollah, the general secretary of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), said that he was cautious till the legislations were scrapped in Parliament as the BJP-led government was "not trustworthy".
"It is indeed a historic victory for all of us. However, I am a bit cautious and unwilling to trust this government until and unless these three laws are scrapped on the floor of Parliament," Mollah told PTI.
"There are instances where this government had said that they are withdrawing an ordinance, but nothing moved forward. We don't trust this government as it has a track record of saying something and doing something exactly opposite," he added.

So our demands have been half met. Now, what will be the form of the movement that will be decided through discussions," he said.

Respite is coming for commuters as the Delhi Police on Thursday night started removing roadblocks placed at the Tikri border point where farmers have been protesting for over 11 months. Reports indicated that one carriageway of the road will open in the coming days.
The move comes days after a Supreme Court hearing that saw farmer unions arguing that the police were responsible for the blockade at the Delhi borders.
The police had put multiple layers of barricades on the roads, complete with giant nails and huge concrete blocks as thousands of farmers had tried to cross Delhi borders in November last year.
Four out of the eight layers of barricades at the Tikri border have been removed. However, the cement barricades are still there and the road remains closed for commuters, an officer said. In videos doing the rounds on social media, JCB machines were seen removing blockades at the Tikri border.
PTI, quoting sources in the Delhi Police, reported blockades at Singhu and Ghazipur border points will also be removed in the coming days.
Thousands of farmers have been camping at the three borders points --- Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur --- protesting the Centre's three farm laws since November 26, 2020.
About the removal of blockades at the Tikri Border on Thursday night, a senior police officer said some layers of barricades that were placed by the police have been removed. "The arrangement at the Tikri border in terms of infrastructure has been reduced. Seven to eight layers of different types of barricades were placed earlier and we have removed some of them," the officer said.
This is done as a move to open the road for traffic soon, he said.
"At present, there is no traffic flow as the roads are closed. Barricades will be completely removed soon to slowly ease the flow of traffic," the officer added.
The Supreme Court on October 21 had said farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the three farms laws have the right to agitate but they cannot block roads indefinitely even as the farmer unions and the government got embroiled in a blame game.
While the farmers' unions alleged that the police were responsible for the blockade as it suits them to allow a feeling among citizens that farmers are blocking the road, the Centre said there was an oblique purpose behind the protests.
After the court hearing, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), whose supporters and office-bearers led by Rakesh Tikait are camping at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border since November 2020, had said the barriers at the protest site have been put by the Delhi police and not farmers.

A huge respite is for commuters as the Delhi Police has started removing roadblocks placed at the Capital's borders where farmers have been protesting for over 11 months. While the Delhi Police started removing blockades at the Tikri&nbsp;border on Thursday night, it began removing the roadblocks on the Ghaziabad&nbsp;border on Friday.
The move comes days after a Supreme Court hearing that saw farmer unions arguing that the police were responsible for the blockade at the Delhi borders.

Thousands of farmers have been camping at the three borders points --- Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur --- protesting the Centre's three farm laws since November 26, 2020.
About the removal of blockades at the Tikri Border on Thursday night, a senior police officer said some layers of barricades that were placed by the police have been removed. "The arrangement at the Tikri border in terms of infrastructure has been reduced. Seven to eight layers of different types of barricades were placed earlier and we have removed some of them," the officer said.
This is done as a move to open the road for traffic soon, he said.
"At present, there is no traffic flow as the roads are closed. Barricades will be completely removed soon to slowly ease the flow of traffic," the officer added.
The Supreme Court on October 21 had said farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the three farms laws have the right to agitate but they cannot block roads indefinitely even as the farmer unions and the government got embroiled in a blame game.
While the farmers' unions alleged that the police were responsible for the blockade as it suits them to allow a feeling among citizens that farmers are blocking the road, the Centre said there was an oblique purpose behind the protests.
After the court hearing, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), whose supporters and office-bearers led by Rakesh Tikait are camping at Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border since November 2020, had said the barriers at the protest site have been put by the Delhi police and not farmers.

Farmer leaders on Saturday demanded that Union minister Ajay Mishra and his son be arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, and termed the incident a 'terror attack' and part of a 'pre-planned conspiracy'.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of farmer organisations spearheading the stir against the farm laws, said they will take out a march&nbsp;from Lakhimpur Kheri if their demands are not met by October 11.
The union also appealed to farmer bodies to organise prayer meetings on October 12 and urged people to light candles outside their homes on that evening.
The farmers have also called for a 'rail roko'&nbsp;agitation across the country from 10 am to 4 pm on October 18 and a 'mahapanchayat' in Lucknow on October 26.
