The United States of America continued a purge of its skies, with a fourth object being shot down on 12 February 2023.
The flying object was shot down at an altitude of around 20,000 feet over Lake Huron in the state of Michigan. An F-16 fighter jet fired an AIM9x missile to bring down the aerial object.
On 11 February, US forced destroyed an object in Alaska, and a day earlier, a cylindrical object was brought down in Canadian airspace. The spree began with American shooting down an alleged Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean on 4 February.
Biden ordered the shooting down of the airborne object on Sunday at the recommendation of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Its path and altitude raised concerns, including that it could be a hazard to civil aviation. The location chosen for this shootdown afforded the opportunity to avoid impact on people on the ground while improving chances for debris recovery, the Pentagon official said.
"There are no indications of any civilians hurt or otherwise affected," he noted. North American Aerospace Defense Command maintained a visual and radar track on the object after detecting it Sunday morning.
"Based on its flight path and data we can reasonably connect this object to the radar signal picked up over Montana, which flew in proximity to sensitive DOD sites. We did not assess it to be a kinetic military threat to anything on the ground, but assess it was a safety flight hazard and a threat due to its potential surveillance capabilities. Our team will now work to recover the object in an effort to learn more," Ryder said.

The US on Tuesday defended its decision to approve a USD 450 million F-16 fighter jet fleet sustainment programme to Pakistan, saying it is "our obligation" to provide military equipment to ensure that the planes are maintained and sustained to bolster Islamabad's capability to deal with "clear" terrorist threats.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a visit to the US, has questioned the rationale behind Washington's USD 450 million F-16 security assistance to Pakistan.
"This is a sustained program for F-16s that Pakistan has long had. These are not new, this is sustaining what they have. We've a responsibility and obligation to whomever we provide military equipment to, that it's maintained and sustained. That's our obligation," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in response to questions on the issue.
Speaking at a joint press appearance with Jaishankar, Blinken said that Pakistan's programme bolsters its capability to deal with terrorist threats emanating from Pakistan or from the region. "It's in no one's interest that those threats be able to go forward with impunity," he added.
"There are clear terrorism threats that continue to emanate from Pakistan itself, as well as from neighbouring countries and whether it is TTP that may be targeting Pakistan, whether it's ISIS or whether it's al-Qaeda, I think the threats are clear, well known and we all have an interest in making sure that we have the means to deal with them. And that's what this is about," he said.
Blinken also said that the US always encourages its friends to resolve their differences, through diplomacy, through dialogue.
"That hasn't changed, it won't change," he said, a day after holding talks with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Relations between India and Pakistan have been strained over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

"The support for the people of Afghanistan is something we discuss regularly with our Pakistani partners; our efforts to improve the lives and livelihoods and humanitarian conditions of the Afghan people, and to see to it that the Taliban live up to the commitments that they have made," he added.
Pakistan is implicated in many of these same commitments: the counterterrorism commitments, commitments to safe passage, commitments to the citizens of Afghanistan, Price said. "The unwillingness or the inability on the part of the Taliban to live up to these commitments would have significant implications for Pakistan as well".
"So, for that reason, we do share a number of interests with Pakistan regarding its neighbour," Price said.
The United States, he noted, has been intently focused on the devastation that has resulted in the loss of life resulting from the torrential floods that have devastated large areas of Pakistan.
"We have provided tens of millions of dollars in relief for these floods. The Secretary today will have additional details on further US assistance for the Pakistani people, in light of this humanitarian emergency that Pakistanis are facing," he added.

Next is the Sukhoi Su-35. Russia might offer discounts to India as it struggles with Western sanctions over the Ukraine war. However, the Su-35 is an air superiority fighter, and not a multirole aircraft as India wants. Multirole jets are less powerful but can also do ground attacks. However, technology transfer as part of the deal might help upgrade India's existing Su-30 fleet.

The plane also made an unauthorised stop in Hungary, apparently for refuelling. Hungarian police were informed but couldn't reach the spot before the plane took-off.
The aircraft was finally found abandoned at an unused airfield in Bulgaria, with the crew nowhere in sight. The plane was identified as a Piper PA-23 Aztec, as per reports.
