Mumbai police have recently detained Lalsingh Rajpurohit, a senior office-bearer of the Shiv Sena, on charges of extortion, according to official statements on Monday.
Rajpurohit, who holds the position of 'Vibhag Parmukh' (division head) for the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction in the suburban area of Kandivali, was taken into custody late Sunday night.
Following his arrest, Rajpurohit faced suspension from his role in the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction due to his alleged involvement in an extortion case filed in December of the previous year.
This information was confirmed by a police officer familiar with the situation.
The Kandivali police revealed that Rajpurohit, along with six associates, was accused of demanding money from a road construction contractor.
Moreover, just last Friday, another First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him.
This new case involves allegations that he forcibly occupied a shop belonging to a Marathi family, with police contemplating his arrest in this matter as well.
As news of these incidents surfaced, Eknath Shinde, a leader of the faction, ordered the expulsion of Rajpurohit from the party. Consequently, his suspension was confirmed.
Additionally, charges of defrauding an elderly couple and illegally seizing a shop have been filed against Rajpurohit at the Kandivali police station. Investigations into these allegations are currently ongoing, officials stated.

For the unversed, Jacqueline was granted interim bail last month in the extortion case surrounding Sukesh. It was granted following the court's order for the Enforcement Directorate to file a reply to the actor's bail plea.
Speaking with ETimes, Prashant Patil, Jacqueline's lawyer, said that the matter is listed for final argument in the bail application. In August, a supplementary chargesheet was filed in the Rs 200 crore extortion case by the ED in which Jacqueline was named as an accused. She has also been summoned by the agency multiple times for the purpose of investigation in the matter.
On the work front, Jacqueline Fernandez's 'Ram Setu', co-starring Akshay Kumar will be released on October 25. The actor has recently commenced work on her next project 'Crakk' with Arjun Rampal and Vidyut Jammwal.

The Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing or EOW has questioned Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi in connection with an extortion case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, officials said on Saturday.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, Fatehi and actor Jacqueline Fernandez received luxury cars and other expensive gifts from Chandrashekar.&nbsp;

The Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has questioned Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi in connection with an extortion case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, officials said on Saturday.
Fatehi was summoned last week. She was questioned at the Mandir Marg office of the EOW for hours on Friday and her statement was recorded, they said.
Chandrashekar, who is currently lodged in jail, is accused of cheating various people, including some high-profile individuals such as former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh's wife Aditi Singh.

Fatehi was earlier questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in this case.
On August 17, the ED filed a charge sheet naming actor Jacqueline Fernandez as an accused in a multi-crore money laundering case linked to Chandrashekar.
According to the ED, Fatehi and Fernandez received luxury cars and other expensive gifts from Chandrashekar.
