Exit polls for the Delhi Assembly elections indicate a likely victory for the BJP, with some showing a close contest between the BJP and AAP. Congress is predicted to make minimal gains, with most surveys projecting no seats or one at best.

Several exit polls on Wednesday predicted a victory for the BJP over the ruling AAP in the Delhi assembly polls, while the Congress was projected to make no significant gains from last elections.&nbsp;
Two exit polls, however, predicted a victory for the Aam Admi Party (AAP), and as many showed a close contest between them, with an edge for the BJP.
The Election Commission will announce the official results after the counting of on February 8.&nbsp;
Exit polls are projections made by election survey agencies based on interviews of voters as they come out after casting their votes. These may vary widely from the actual results. In the 2020 Delhi polls, most exit polls got their predictions wrong.&nbsp;
Among the exit polls that predicted a BJP victory, the People's Pulse showed the NDA was likely to get 51 to 60 seats, while the AAP may get 10-19 seats. The Congress, it claimed, will not be able to open its account.
According to People's Insight exit poll, the NDA is likely to get 40 to 44 seats, the AAP 25 to 29 seats, and the Congress 0-1 seat.&nbsp;
The P-Marq exit poll predicted 39-49 seats for the BJP and its allies, 21-31 seats for AAP and 0-1 for the Congress.&nbsp;
The JVC exit poll said the BJP and allies would get 39-45, the AAP 22-31 seats and the Congress 0-2. Similarly, the Poll Diary predicted 42-50 seats of the BJP and allies, while giving the AAP 18-25 seats, 0-2 for the Congress and 0-1 for others.&nbsp;
Chankya Strategies exit poll said the BJP and allies are likely to get 39-44 seats, the AAP is likely to get 25-28, while Congress may get 2-3.&nbsp;
Two surveys predicted AAP's victory - Wee Preside, which gave 46-52 sets for AAP, 18-23 for BJP and 0-1 for Congress, and Mind Brink Media predicted 44-49 seats for AAP, 21-25 for BJP and 0-1 for the Congress.&nbsp;
Matrize exit poll predicted a close contest, giving the BJP led NDA 35-40 seats, while the AAP was said to get 32 to 37 seats. The survey gave Congress 0-1 seats.&nbsp;
The DV Research exit polls predicted 26-34 seats for the AAP, and 36-44 for the BJP and allies, giving zero seats to the Congress.&nbsp;
In the 70 member Delhi assembly, 36 is the majority mark. The AAP currently has 62 MLAs, the BJP has eight, and the Congress none. The Delhi assembly polls were held on Wednesday, and results would be declared on February 8.&nbsp;
There are 1.55 crore voters in Delhi, out of which nearly 58 percent exercised their franchiese till 5 pm on Wednesday. Several AAP leaders rejected the exit polls, while BJP leaders said they are confident of their victory.

Exit Polls are out for five state Assembly polls. While the exact results will be out on March 10, exit polls keep up the political excitement in the run-up to counting.
The latest tranche of exit polls have predicted a BJP win in UP, an Aam Aadmi Party surprise in Punjab, a tight BJP-Congress contest in Uttarakhand, advantage BJP in Manipur and a hung house in Goa.
But how far have the exit polls been from the exact polls. A look at the last few <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections" target="_blank">Assembly polls</a> shows that exit polls have been getting it all wrong in big contests.

Let's look at West Bengal.
Almost all exit polls predicted a close contest between the BJP and Trinamool. Some even gave the BJP a thumping majority. The poll of exit polls for Bengal pitched BJP at 138 seats Vs Trinamool's 141. But when the actual results came, it was a Trinamool landslide, while BJP remained a distant second. Didi's party romped home in 213 of the 294 seats, while the BJP won just 77.
Ditto in Haryana in 2019. With Assembly elections coming within months of BJP's emphatic Lok Sabha win, exit polls predicted an impressive win for the BJP in the state. As per the poll of polls, BJP was projected to romp home in close to 70 of the 90 seats, and Congress was relegated to a mere 13. But again the results were totally different, where BJP failed to secure a majority. The saffron party won 40 seats, much less than what exit polls gave it and Congress secured 31 seats, much more than the exit polls predictions.
Similarly in Bihar 2020, all exit polls predicted a win for RJD alliance. A couple of exit polls even gave RJD a landslide win with around 180 seats in the 243 member house. Here too the actual results were opposite of the exit polls. When the votes were counted, BJP-JDU alliance won a majority with 125 seats and the RJD alliance lost with 110 seats.
Even in Maharashtra 2019, exit polls had totally written off the Congress alliance. The exit polls largely predicted a sweeping win for the BJP alliance with some polls handing the alliance 220 out of 288 seats. What were the exact results? BJP alliance 164, Congress alliance 96.

So while exit polls may be good for political excitement before the actual counting, they need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Reports said that the BJP has already started talks with smaller regional parties for support post results.
Some reports said that the MGP is not inclined to back Pramod Sawant, who had dropped the party from the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections/goa-elections" target="_blank">Goa </a>cabinet after taking over as Chief Minister following Manohar Parrikar's death in 2019.
Hectic activities are also on in the Congress camp, with the party reportedly planning to shift its Goa MLAs to Maharashtra to shield them from poaching.
The party has also signalled a massive shift by saying it is open to an alliance with Arvind Kejriwal's AAP and the Trinamool in case it falls short of numbers.
