Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that the country was emerging as a "ray of hope" for the world and pointed to the free trade pact with the European Union, saying it for an "ambitious India" and manufacturers should seize this opportunity to enhance capacities.
Addressing the media at the beginning of the Budget session of Parliament, Modi said India was moving rapidly on the Reform Express and thanked parliamentarians for contributing their positive energies to the unveiling of reforms.
Modi said even his critics acknowledge the government's focus on last-mile delivery and this tradition will continue with the next generation reforms.
India's democracy and demography, he said, offer great hope for the world.
"In this temple of democracy, India has the opportunity to send a message of strength, commitment to democracy, and respect for decisions taken through democratic processes &ndash; messages welcomed and accepted globally," Modi said.
He asserted that the present time is not for disruption but for solutions, not for obstacles but for resolution.
The prime minister said the Budget session marked the culmination of the first quarter of the 21st century and the beginning of the next quarter.
"The year has begun on a very positive note, with a confident India emerging as a ray of hope and a centre of attraction for the world," he said.
Modi said the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union at the start of this quarter reflected the bright future of India's youth and the promising directions ahead.
"This agreement is free trade for an ambitious India, for aspirational youth, and for an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India)," he said.
The prime minister expressed firm belief that India's manufacturers will seize this opportunity to enhance their capacities.
Modi said the "mother of all deals" with the European Union has opened up a vast market and Indian goods will reach there at lower costs.
He asked industry leaders and manufacturers to guard against complacency and instead focus on quality.
Entering this open market with the best quality products will not only earn profits from buyers across 27 EU countries but also win their hearts, creating a long-lasting impact for decades, the prime minister said.
He noted that companies' brands, aligned with the nation's brand, will establish new prestige.
India and the European Union on Tuesday announced the conclusion of negotiations for the FTA, described as 'mother of all deals', under which 93 per cent of Indian shipments will enjoy duty-free access to the 27-nation bloc, while import of luxury cars and wines from the EU will become less expensive.
The deal, concluded after negotiations spanning about two decades, will create a market of about 2 billion people across the world's fourth-largest economy, India, and the second-largest economic bloc, the EU.
The prime minister said the focus of his government has always been human-centric and for all-round development of the country.
He said while India will compete with technology, absorb it, and accept its strengths, the government will never compromise on human-centric systems.
Referring to President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, he said it was an expression of confidence of 140 crore citizens and outlined aspirations of the youth.
He also noted that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to table her ninth consecutive budget on Sunday and that she is the only woman finance minister in the country to achieve such a significant feat.
"This is a very glorious chapter of Indian democracy," the prime minister said.

The India-EU free trade agreement is expected to benefit a wide range of domestic sectors and deepen India&rsquo;s trade engagement with one of the world's largest economic blocs, experts said. Negotiations for the agreement have been concluded and expected to come into force later this year.
The experts said that the agreement announced on January 27 is set to significantly transform India's automotive sector by attracting foreign direct investment into its auto component industry and fostering deeper integration into global value chains.
"The India&ndash;EU trade pact marks a significant step forward in strengthening market access and trade competitiveness," Sanjay Budhia, Chairman of CII's National Committee on Exports and Managing Director of Patton International Ltd, said. He added that the deal is expected to provide preferential access across a host of traded goods, creating meaningful opportunities for domestic businesses.
"The agreement is likely to benefit multiple sectors and deepen trade engagement across one of the world's largest economic corridors," Budhia said.
Echoing similar views, Saurabh Kanchan, Partner, Deloitte India, said the pact makes a significant departure from the country's existing FTAs, with India agreeing to bring down tariffs on passenger cars from 110 per cent to 10 per cent over time.
"Car manufacturers in India should be able to absorb this concession, given India's annual market size of 4.3 million plus units and growing," he said adding it would be important to understand the trade-off for automotive exporters in India.
Srinivas Kuchibhotla, Partner, Deloitte India, said that currently the two-way trade exceeds USD 136 billion, and execution of the pact holds immense opportunity and potential for both sides.
"FTA will not only lower tariffs that have contained value-added agri-food exim trade between India-EU, but it also stops short of full liberalisation for sensitive staples," he said.
While the agreement opens growth opportunities for value-led agri exports, eventually the benefits realised will depend on aligning trade policies with reforms on policy front, Kuchibhotla said.
Rudra Kumar Pandey, Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, too said that the agreement is set to significantly transform India's automotive sector by attracting foreign direct investment into its auto component industry and fostering deeper integration into global value chains.
" Given that EU automotive supply chains currently source a meaningful share of components from countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, and, in certain categories, Turkiye and Mexico, improved market access combined with trade facilitation can tilt future sourcing decisions toward India," Pandey added.
President of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce (IHK Berlin), Sebastian Stiezel, described the trade deal as an important step towards opening up in an increasingly tense global situation.
Stiezel added that India is no longer a future market, but a market of the present, in which Berlin should now seize the opportunities.
President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) Hildegard Mueller hailed the agreement and said it sends a strong signal of decisive action, describing it as an important step for both regions, and especially for Germany as an export nation.
Sharing similar views, Thilo Brodtmann, Managing Director of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), hailed the conclusion of the FTA, stating that Europe is sending an unmistakable signal for rules-based trade.

In the wake of the FTA between India and the EU, the US has described the Europeans as &ldquo;very disappointing&rdquo;, saying they were unwilling to join Washington in putting tariffs on New Delhi for its purchases of Russian oil because of this trade deal.
"Again, they should do what&rsquo;s best for themselves, but I will tell you I find the Europeans very disappointing because the Europeans are on the front line of the Ukraine-Russia war," US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with CNBC's 'Squawk on thUS-e Street' Wednesday.
Bessent was responding to a question on the &ldquo;massive&rdquo; trade deal between Europe and India and whether that threatens America, given that the countries are moving ahead with free trade without Washington.
"...India started buying sanctioned Russian oil, and guess who was buying the refined products? The Europeans. So, the Europeans have been funding the war against themselves and like something that you couldn&rsquo;t have made up."
"The US sanctioned or put a 25 per cent tariff on India for buying the Russian oil. The Europeans were unwilling to join us, and it turns out that they wanted to do this trade deal. So, every time you hear a European talk about the importance of the Ukrainian people, remember that they put trade ahead of the Ukrainian people. Trade -- European trade, more important than ending the war in Ukraine,&rdquo; Bessent said.
When asked if the Europeans need energy, Bessent said, &ldquo;At a price, they want cheap energy, but we could have cheaper energy too if we were willing to buy sanctioned Russian oil.&rdquo;
Bessent&rsquo;s comments were the second remarks in as many days by the Trump administration on the trade deal between India and the EU, dubbed as the &ldquo;mother of all deals.&rdquo;
On Tuesday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa were leading the signing of the trade deal in New Delhi, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said India came out on &ldquo;top&rdquo; in the trade deal.
"I've looked at some of the details of the deal so far. I think India comes out on top on this, frankly. They get more market access into Europe,&rdquo; Greer had said in an interview to Fox Business.
Greer was responding to a question on the trade deal signed between India and the EU.
"It sounds like they (India) have some additional immigration rights. I don't know for sure, but President (Ursula) von der Leyen of the EU has talked about mobility for Indian workers into Europe," Greer said.
"So I think on net, India is going to have a heyday with this. They have low-cost labour, and it looks like the EU is doubling down on globalisation when we're trying to fix some of the problems of globalisation here in the US,&rdquo; Greer had said.
When asked if he has any impressions on the India-EU trade deal, Greer said, &ldquo;I do. First of all, strategically, it's important to understand that because President Trump has prioritised domestic production and essentially started charging a fee for other countries to access our market, these countries are trying to find other outlets for their overproduction. And so the EU is turning to India to try to find a place."

Addressing a gathering at the annual National Cadet Corps PM Rally at Delhi Cantonment here, the prime minister also said the entire world is looking at India's youth with a "lot of trust" and the reason behind that trust is "skill and 'sanskar' (culture)".
"I had addressed from the Red Fort that 'Yahi Samay Hai, Sahi Samay Hai' (this is the time, this is the right time). For the country's youth, it is a time for maximum opportunities," Modi said.

Responding to a question on the 25 per cent tariff on India for Russian oil purchases, Greer said Delhi still pays those levies, on top of the 25 per cent reciprocal tariff that the Trump administration imposed on the country.
When asked if India is still buying Russian oil, Greer said, &ldquo;They have made a lot of progress on this. I'm in frequent contact with my counterpart in India. I have a great working relationship with him, but they still have a way to go on this point. They like the discount that you get from Russian oil; it's close by, so it's hard for them.&rdquo;
He said that the US Treasury Department had put into place more significant sanctions a few weeks ago, adding that the US expect India "to continue to wind that down, but we're watching it closely.&rdquo;
