Delhi schools to remain shut till October 31

After Unlock 5 guidelines let schools to be reopened in a graded manner, Delhi government announced that schools will continue to remain closed in the capital till October 31. The Delhi government had earlier had ordered schools to be shut till October 5. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia revised the dates and said it is not appropriate to take any risk with the health of the children. The Unlock 5.0 guidelines let the states decide to open educational institutions from October 15, without making attendance compulsory for the students. The Centre said it was upto the State and UT governments to take this decision but encouraged online cases for the students. Educational institutions across the country have been shut since March this year due to the lockdown and rise in Covid-19 cases.

In a major relief for animal lovers and wildlife activists, Delhi could get its first wild animal rescue centre.
According to reports, forest department officials shared that the centre will most likely come up in a 1.24-acre plot in Rajokri,&nbsp;where a monkey rescue centre is currently lying abandoned.
It will have three five-member rapid response teams to rescue and rehabilitate animals here.&nbsp;
The funds for the same have been sanctioned by the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority and it should be ready by the end of the year.&nbsp;

Sparking fears of second wave in the national capital, Delhi on Wednesday&nbsp;recorded 4,039 fresh Covid-19 cases, which is the highest single-day spike since the&nbsp;government announced pandemic in March this year. The city over all infection tally also&nbsp;breached the two lakh-mark, while&nbsp;the death toll mounted to 4,638.&nbsp;The previous highest&nbsp;single-day spike of 3,947 cases was recorded on June 23.&nbsp;The number of Covid-19 tests conducted in a single day also rose to a new record high with 54,517 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;Over the past week, Delhi has recorded more than 2,800 new cases every day on an average.&nbsp;Cases in Delhi rose rapidly through May and June but started dropping by the end of June after hitting an initial peak. After a steady drop in cases for around three weeks, cases again started rising alarmingly from mid-August. As of Wednesday, there are 2,01,174 cases in the city.&nbsp;
