The Delhi government will soon start an AC electric bus service to ferry tourists from Pradhanmantri Sanghrahalya to the War Memorial on an 'evening' tour.
The buses will have a certain coloured design to make them distinct. The city's tourism department plans to start the service by mid-July, said an official.
"We are planning to start evening tours from the Prime Minister Museum to the War Memorial for tourists. Through this, we plan to target foreigners and tourists who come to Delhi. There are plans to hire the new nine-metre electric buses from the DTC," the official said.
Since the museum closes by 6 pm, we will start the tour from there, and then we will proceed to other locations, he said.
"The bus ride will be priced at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 300 for children aged between six and 12. There will be a tourist guide onboard, who will inform the visitors about the significance of the places they are being taken to," the person said.
"We plan to hire the bus from DTC, and we will see what the response is. We plan to use the bus for school picnics in the morning. For that, we plan to collaborate with the Directorate of Education," the official added.
In her budget speech, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had announced that her government will develop a new tourist circuit covering the War Memorial, Kartavya Path, Prime Minister Museum and New Parliament House.
The tourism department had also discussed plans of reviving the Hop-on Hop-off (Ho Ho) buses model that was stalled in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. However, it was felt that in a place like Delhi, the model is not sustainable.
"Abroad, the Ho-Ho buses are available at regular intervals. But in Delhi, that won't be possible considering the traffic situation.
"There were plans for having targeted tours &mdash; like having a tour of markets, heritage monuments, etc and having different colours of buses for that. But it was felt that people might visit heritage monuments, but won't like visiting malls or markets using the buses," the official added.

The Punjab Government has taken a step forward to introduce electric buses and promote an eco-system throughout the state. This initiative will not only help provide a pollution-free environment but also offer better environmental conditions and transportation facilities to citizens.
While chairing a meeting at the Punjab Civil Secretariat here today, Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar directed the officials of Local Government and Transport Department to jointly conduct a survey regarding the operation of EV buses and promotion of the eco-system.
Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government is committed to making the state pollution-free and providing citizens with a clean environment, said the Cabinet Minister, adding that the time has come to introduce EV buses in Punjab.
He asked the concerned officials to take immediate action toward this objective.
The Transport Minister said that in the first phase, a proposal will be formulated to operate EV buses in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar and Patiala.
He said that 100 EV buses to be plied in Amritsar, 75 in Jalandhar, 100 in Ludhiana, 100 in SAS Nagar and 50 buses in Patiala.
S. Laljit Singh Bhullar also instructed PRTC and Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS officials to review the de-clubbing of bus route permits and find solutions in accordance with the law.
The Cabinet Minister informed that 450 large buses, 100 mini buses from PRTC and 312 new buses from PUNBUS will be soon added to the Punjab Transport Department's fleet, with the necessary procedures already underway.
Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Additional Chief Secretary Transport Mr. D.K. Tiwari, State Transport Commissioner S. Jaspreet Singh, Director State Transport Mr. Rajiv Gupta along with senior officials from the Local Government and Transport Departments.

Its subsidiary JBM Ecolife Mobility has been awarded the tender for an electric bus order. The company will supply, operate and maintain 1,390 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. The total value of the order is seen around 7,500 crore rupees. Jindal Stainless to supply special stainless steel grade to JBM Auto
Jindal Stainless on Tuesday said it will supply high-end stainless steel grade to JBM Auto for manufacturing of 500 lightweight electric buses.
Under a partnership with JBM Auto, it will provide JT Tubes, made up of low-carbon, chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel to the e-bus maker, Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) said in a statement.
Jindal Stainless has partnered with JBM Auto to roll out over 500 energy-efficient electric buses. JT Tubes has three times the strength of the carbon steel currently used to fabricate buses, according to the statement.
JSL Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal, said lighter vehicles improve energy consumption, and reduce the carbon footprint of the transport sector.
"Through our association with JBM Auto, we look forward to furthering our mission to contributing to greener modes of public transport," Jindal said.
"Our mission is to provide intelligent electric vehicles with robust infrastructure support, making EVs the most sustainable mode of public commuting. I am confident that our collaboration with Jindal Stainless will act as a catalyst in achieving our mission," Vice Chairman &amp; Managing Director, JBM Auto Nishant Arya said.
Further, JSL said it will supply the material through its domestic service arm Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL).
JSL is India's largest stainless steel manufacturing company with two plants located in Haryana and Odisha.
