External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on September 25 slammed the US media, accusing it of 'biases' against India. 
The minister outlined that it was important to contest, not to sit back and therefore not let other people define India. 
"This is something which we need to be aware of. It is important to contest. It isn't because most Americans will not know what sort of the nuances and the complexities of back home, so, it's important not to sit back, not to let other people define me. That is something which I feel as a community is very important for us," he said.
Speaking  at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the EAM in a veiled jibe at US national daily 'The Washington Post' said he was well aware of what the newspapers including the ones in New York will write, .
"I look at the media. You know, there are some newspapers you know, exactly, what they are going to write including one in this town," he said amid laughter and applause on Sunday.
Responding to a question on misrepresentation of the Kashmir issue in the American capital, Jaishankar said if there is a terrorist incident, it doesn't matter what faith the person who's killed belongs to.
Saying that there are Indian soldiers, Indian officials who are losing their lives as he questioned the media coverage on such matters. "How often do you hear people talking about it; pronouncing it, in fact, look at the media coverage. What does the media cover what does the media not cover?," the EAM said.
The minister pointed that opinions and perceptions are shaped in a fashion saying that facts are played with. "The way facts are slanted, things are laid out over what's right and what's wrong is confused. This is politics at work," the EAM suggested.
Jaishankar affirmed that it was important to not let it go, and contest.
"We should shape the narrative. This is a competitive world. We need to get our messages out," he concluded.
The anti-India forces, Jaishankar said are "not winning in India".  "They will try and win outside or try and shape India from outside,"he added

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that human rights issue was not a topic of discussion during the India US 2+2 ministerial meeting this week, as he asserted that whenever there is a discussion New Delhi will not be reticent about speaking out.
"On the human rights issue; no, we did not discuss human rights during this meeting. This meeting was primarily focused on political-military affairs,” Jaishankar told reporters as he concluded his trip here, which was primarily to attend the India-US 2+2 ministerial along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
At a joint news conference on Monday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken had said that the US is monitoring some recent "concerning developments” in India, including a rise in human rights abuses by some government, police, and prison officials. The joint news conference after the 2+2 dialogue was addressed by Blinken, Jaishankar, Singh and US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Responding to a question, Jaishankar said while the issue of human rights was not discussed during the current meeting, it has come up in the past.
"It is a subject which has come up in the past. It came up when Secretary Blinken came to India. I think if you recall the press briefings after that I was very open about the fact that we had discussed it and said what I had to say,” he said.
"So let me put it to you this way so that there's clarity about where we stand on this matter," he added.
"Look, people are entitled to have views about us. But we are also equally entitled to have views about their views and about the interests, and the lobbies and the vote banks which drive that. So, whenever there is a discussion, I can tell you that we will not be reticent about speaking out," he said.
"I would tell you that we also take our views on other people's human rights situation, including that of the United States. So, we take up a human rights issues when they arise in this country, especially when they pertain to our community. And in fact, we had a case yesterday…that's really where we stand on that,” he said.

The central government had supplied over 66 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to more than 70 countries as part of the Vaccine Maitri initiative before halting it owing to the sharp surge in cases of infection.&nbsp; External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar had slammed critics of initiative, labeling them as &lsquo;non-serious, irresponsible&rsquo;
Mandaviya added that more than 30 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines will be produced in India in the month of October alone and over 100 crore doses will be produced in the fourth quarter of this year
The government wants to vaccinate all of its 94.4 crore adults by December and has so far given at least one dose to 61 per cent of them.

India-US 2+2 talks : China a threat to security & freedom, Pompeo says

Discussions under way at Hyderabad House in &nbsp;US secretary of state Mike Pompeo and defence secretary Mark Esper held a meeting India&rsquo;s defence minister Rajnath Singh and EAM S Jaishankar at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi. During the third 2+2 dialogue, Pompeo called China a threat to security and freedom. Amid the heightened importance of the Indo-Pacific region, Pompeo also added a lot of discussions to happen during the India-US talks &nbsp;to confront Chinese Communist party's threats to security &amp; freedom, to promote peace and stability in the area.
