<h2>Venkatesh Prasad expressed his shock over the omission of Kerala's Jalaj Saxena from South Zone's Duleep Trophy squad.</h2>

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad feels there are many "laughable things" in Indian cricket and among them is the non-selection of Kerala spinner Jalaj Saxena in South Zone's squad for Duleep Trophy beginning June 28.
Saxena, who has represented India A and Madhya Pradesh in the past, took 50 wickets for Kerala in the last Ranji Trophy season.
"There are many laughable things happening in Indian cricket. The highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy not being picked even for the South Zone team is as baffling as it gets. Just renders the Ranji Trophy useless..what a shame," lamented Prasad in a tweet.
The 36-year-old has played 133 first-class games, 104 List A and 66 T20s in his long domestic career.
Prasad, who has been chairman of the BCCI junior selection committee, had also questioned batter K L Rahul's selection in the Indian team earlier this year after a prolonged poor run.
Some other selection calls in the upcoming Duleep Trophy have also come under the scanner with India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik questioning the omission of Tamil Nadu's Baba Indrajith in the South Zone squad.
"I don't understand selection committee these days. BABA INDRAJITH plays for Rest of India against MP in the first week of March 2023. There has been no first-class matches post that, but he doesn't feature for SOUTH ZONE in the Duleep Trophy. Can someone tell me why?" Karthik asked earlier this week.&nbsp;

In an unusual act, West Zone captain Ajinjya Rahane asked his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal to leave the field for excessive sledging. 
The situation unfolded on the fifth day of the Duleep Trophy final in Coimbatore. 
Jaiswal was consistently throwing verbal volleys to South Zone batter Ravi Teja while fielding close to the bat. After Teja's complaint, Rahane spoke to Yashasvi but the youngster appeared to be animated when the captain had a word with him.

Then, Rahane ordered Yashasvi to leave the field and west Zone fielded with 10 men only for seven over before 20-year-old Jaiswal returned to the field. 
Jaiswal was later declared Man of the Match after West Zone won the final by 294 runs.
Reacting to the incident after the match, Rahane said that he believes in respecting the opponents, umpires and match officials and that certain incidents need to be treated in a certain manner.

West Zone won the 2022 Duleep Trophy after a massive 294 run win over South Zone on the final day of the 5th test in Coimbatore on Sunday.
The Ajinkya Rahane-led side put up a massive total of 585 for four in their second innings, courtesy a 265 by Yasashvi Jaiswal and 127 by Sarfraz Khan. South Zone on the other hand, was bowled out for 234 in 71.2 overs. Major contributor with the ball was spinner Shams Mulani who had a decent spell of 4/51 on the final day.

Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer suffered a painful blow on the neck by a bowler's throw on Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy semi-final match between West Zone and Central Zone at the SNR College cricket ground.

Duleep Trophy: Ambulance arrives on field after Venkatesh Iyer suffers nasty blow

An ambulance had to be called onto the field after Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer suffered a nasty blow during the Duleep Trophy semi-final between West Zone & Central Zone.

West Zone bowler Chintan Gaja's throw hit Venkatesh Iyer flush on the neck after which the left-hander fell to the ground. Iyer thankfully avoided any major injury and returned to bat later.

An ambulance had to be called onto the field after Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer suffered a nasty blow during the Duleep Trophy semi-final between West Zone &amp; Central Zone.
The incident took place at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Tamil Nadu on day 2 of the match. Venkatesh Iyer was hit on the neck by West Zone's Chintan Gaja's wild throw. The all-rounder immediately fell to the ground, clutching his neck and an ambulance had to be called inside the playing area.
But thankfully, the physios were able to get Iyer back on his feet, and after going through all the checks in the dressing room, the KKR all-rounder returned to the crease later. He finished with 14 runs as Central Zone were bowled out for 128 in reply to West Zone's 1st innings total of 257.
