An alleged drug smuggler was killed in a retaliatory firing during a police raid at his house here on Tuesday, police said.
Two police officials were also injured during the incident, they said.
Based on a tip-off, a police team reached the residence of Sucha Singh (50), a wanted drug smuggler, Hoshiarpur Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sarbjit Singh Bahia said.
When the police team entered his house, Sucha attacked them with a 'fawada' (hoe) and another sharp-edged tool, he said.
Sucha got injured in retaliatory firing by the police and was rushed to a hospital but died on the way, SP Bahia said.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Satnam Singh and Head Constable Gurwinder Singh, who were injured in the attack, were rushed to Civil Hospital in Dasuya for treatment.
The body has been shifted to the Civil Hospital, Bahia said, adding that a forensics team has been called to examine the crime spot.&nbsp;

At one of the events, Sarma&nbsp;said his government's first effort was to stop the supply of drugs to our state, second was to end its circulation and third was to rehabilitate those affected by its abuse.Sarma said that between May 10 and July 15, the state police registered 874 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and arrested 1,493 drug dealers across the state and seized nearly&nbsp;₹163 crore of the contraband.

During the coronavirus pandemic, there has been a rise in the use of cannabis in most countries. Increased non-medical use of pharmaceutical sedatives has been observed in this period.
The UN report adds, when it comes to disease-linked to drug abuse, Opioids continue to be the biggest contributor. Socio-economic stressors have accelerated the demand for use of drugs. The report said, 13% of the total number of people who use drugs, i.e. 36.3 million people, suffer from disorders linked to drug abuse.
As per latest estimates, around 5.5% of the world population aged between 5 to 64 have used drugs at least once in the last year.
