After crashing into a road divider and police barricades, an intoxicated driver narrowly avoided hitting three officers. Both the driver and his co-passenger were apprehended.

A speeding car driven by an intoxicated driver hit a road divider and police barricades, nearly hitting traffic officers. The driver and co-passenger were arrested, highlighting the dangers of drunk driving.

A speeding car rammed into a road divider and smashed through barricades, narrowly missing three traffic policemen on Monday, officials said. The driver who was allegedly in an inebriated state has been arrested.
According to police, the car, which was coming from the wrong side of the road, ignored repeated stop signals from the traffic personnel who were conducting checks for drunk driving.
Instead, it rammed into a divider, smashed through the barricades and continued to speed away, narrowly missing three on-duty officers.
"The car was being driven recklessly. The driver and his co-passenger, both residents of Noida, were found to be heavily intoxicated. A medical test confirmed the presence of alcohol in their systems," said the officer.
The incident, which occurred around 2:04 am, created panic in the area as the sound of the crash drew nearby locals and bystanders to the scene.
Police teams immediately chased and managed to intercept the vehicle after a brief pursuit. Both the driver and the co-passenger were overpowered and taken into custody.
An FIR has been registered under 281 (rash driving), 324(4) (mischief causing damage), and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). The vehicle has been seized, and further investigation is underway.
Sources in the police said that this could have turned into a tragic incident. The impact of the vehicle was very high and the accused were trying to flee and were trying to avoid any police action.
Several videos of the incident surfaced on social media platforms showing the damaged car came with shattered window glass and front windshield.
A man who was recording the video was also seen asking the co-passenger and the driver about the accident who were hiding their faces in the custody of police personnel.
"I was not behind the steering. I had asked the driver to drive slowly. But he was not paying any attention," one of the accused was heard saying in the video.

According to the police, the journalist, filed a police complaint alleging indecent behaviour by Uber driver Vinod Kumar Yadav when she was travelling from New Friends Colony to Malviya Nagar around 4.40 pm on Wednesday.
The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the city police and the cab aggregator firm on the victim's complaint.&nbsp;
A case under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC has been registered and investigation initiated, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Rajesh Deo said.
Taking to Twitter, the woman narrated her ordeal.
The Delhi Commission for Women said it has received a complaint in the matter and has issued a notice to the city police and the cab aggregator firm.
The women's panel has sought an action taken report by March 6.&nbsp;

An Indian-origin driver, who caused the death of a pregnant woman and her father after losing control of his vehicle due to consumption of drugs in a seaside town in south-eastern England, has been sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment. According to local police, Nitesh Bissendary lost control of his black Alfa Romeo in Ramsgate, Kent, in August and also injured three others, including two children.
The 31-year-old was sentenced on Thursday following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court. He will also be disqualified from driving for 10 years following his custodial sentence.
&ldquo;From the moment he took cocaine before getting behind the wheel, the actions of Nitesh Bissendary have been nothing short of disgraceful,&rdquo; Detective Inspector Lynn Wilczek of Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said.

&ldquo;He has refused to take full responsibility for a tragic incident that was completely avoidable and entirely of his making, going so far as to run away whilst his victims lay injured and dying. Denying his actions were dangerous only caused more pain for the family as they were forced to relive the terrible events of that night during his trial,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;I am pleased the jury saw fit to convict Bissendary for his crimes and that he will now serve a significant period of time behind bars where he belongs. This case should serve as a stark reminder to all motorists of the dangers of drug-driving and why we do not hesitate to take action against anyone who is found to be under the influence. Such selfish actions really do put lives at risk,&rdquo; the officer added.
The court was told how Bissendary had travelled around 30 metres on the pavement before colliding with the pedestrians and then fled the scene immediately afterwards. He returned to the scene of the incident after initially fleeing on foot, failing a roadside drug test that indicated traces of cocaine. However, he refused to give a follow-up blood test following arrest.
The jury heard that Bissendary claimed to have a vehicle defect which he was trying to rectify, causing him to take his eyes off the road moments before the collision.
Noga Sella, 37, was five weeks pregnant when she was killed in the collision. Her father Yoram Hirshfeld, 81, also died from his injuries, whilst Sella's husband Omer was badly hurt.
&ldquo;There are few things in life as painful as the loss of a loved one, especially when such a loss comes without warning and as the result of someone else's irresponsible behaviour. To lose two people at the same time is unimaginable,&rdquo; Wilczek noted in the police statement.
Bissendary admitted causing death by careless driving, but denied the more serious offence of causing death by dangerous driving in addition to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He also pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, failing to provide a sample for analysis and possession with intent to supply cocaine.
