A study published in Evolution, Medicine and Public Health stated that socialising with humans and other pets can help dogs to live longer and healthier lives.&nbsp;
Researchers looked at more than 21,000 dogs and found that social companionship with both people and other animals had the largest influence on healthier ageing among dogs.&nbsp;
It was noted that the effect of the social interaction was five times more than anything else they compared it to, such as household children or the pet parent's age, and family finances.
The study aims to learn how genes, lifestyle and environmental factors influence ageing and disease among dogs.&nbsp;
The researchers focused their analysis on five crucial factors: neighbourhood stability, the overall income of the household, the amount of social time spent with children and animals, and the age of the dog's owner. These factors were examined collectively to understand their potential influence on a dog's overall well-being in the social environment.&nbsp;
Their findings revealed that dogs residing in households facing financial challenges and additional stressors tended to have worse health, while dogs that enjoyed more social companionship, such as cohabitating with other dogs, exhibited better health.

However, an animal rights group claimed that the accused was paid by dog breeders to get rid of canines that were past the breeding age and were commercially unviable. He has been reportedly starving dogs to death since 2020.
The bizarre case from country's northwest province came to light after a complaint by a local who stumbled upon the accused's house to look for his dog.
Several visuals have surfaced online showing dead dogs in cages sacks and boxes at the man's house. Those rescued reportedly suffer from skin diseases and malnutrition.

Police: 180 dogs and cats removed from home by hazmat team

New Jersey: Two held after hazmat team found animals in inhumane conditions

Police said 135 dogs and and 45 cats were removed; two of the dogs were dead when they were taken from the home and about eight animals were taken for emergency care

Some 180 dogs and cats were removed from a New Jersey home by a hazmat team after officials reported the animals were being kept in &ldquo;horrible and inhumane conditions,&rdquo; authorities say.
Brick Township police said officers entered the home Friday night and found stacks of animal crates containing dogs and cats, but because of the conditions &ldquo;the officers were forced to exit and requested that a hazmat team respond.&rdquo; Two arrests were made, officials said.
Police said rescuers in hazmat gear took about 10 hours to remove the animals. Police said 135 dogs and and 45 cats were removed; two of the dogs were dead when they were taken from the home and about eight animals were taken for emergency care, police added.

Two arrests on animal cruelty accusations were made and a child endangerment charge is also pending since a 16-year-old also was living in the residence, police said

Researchers involved 36 nonsmoker participants who had neither eaten or drunk anything before the test. They were given difficult Maths test to solve and their breath and sweat samples were collected before and after the test.
Researchers only used the samples of those whose blood pressure and heart rates had increased due to the test.
Later, a group of 4 dogs were presented with the samples from both before and after the stress. And they indeed correctly identified each person&rsquo;s stress sample in nearly 94 percent of the 720 trials that were done.
According to the researchers, this ability of dogs can also be beneficial in training and therapy services.

Two monkeys have been captured in a Maharashtra village for reportedly being involved in the killings of nearly 250 dogs. New agency ANI has reported that the killings are said to be an act of revenge after an infant monkey was killed by dogs in the area.
Beed Forest Officer Sachi Kand told ANI that the "two monkeys involved in the killing of many puppies have been captured by a Nagpur Forest Department team".

According to UK's Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss, the infection was confirmed following tests at the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) laboratory in Weybridge on November 3. The dog is now recovering at home.
All available evidence suggests that the dog contracted the coronavirus from its owners who had previously tested positive for coronavirus.
There is no evidence to suggest that the animal was involved in the transmission of the disease to its owners or that pets or other domestic animals are able to transmit the virus to people, the officer said.
"Tests conducted by the Animal and Plant Health Agency have confirmed that the virus responsible for COVID-19 has been detected in a pet dog in the UK. The infected dog was undergoing treatment for another unrelated condition and is now recovering," Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss said in the statement.
"It is very rare for dogs to be infected and they will usually only show mild clinical signs and recover within a few days," he said.
He added that there is no clear evidence to suggest that pets directly transmit the virus to humans. "We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will update our guidance to pet owners should the situation change."
