For EWS the existing criteria of ₹ 8 lakh annual income has been upheld for this academic year. The top court said that it will hold a detailed hearing on EWS reservation in March, when it will consider the validity of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/sc-strikes-down-maha-govt-s-10-ews-quota-1559200333124" target="_blank">EWS quotas</a>.

The stir by the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) was called off at 12 noon, FORDA said in a statement.
Patient care had been affected at several major hospitals in Delhi in this period as resident doctors have been boycotting services to lodge their protest.
The federation on Thursday had sought withdrawal of police cases lodged against some of their colleagues in the fraternity after a face off between medics and police personnel in the streets on Monday.
On Thursday, a "series of meetings of FORDA representatives was held with multiple Delhi Police officials. It was highlighted by Delhi Police that they have highest regard for doctors," the federation said in its statement.
They also assured that police complaints lodged against resident doctors "will be taken care of as per the legal procedures," FORDA claimed.
"A virtual meeting of FORDA members with all RDAs' representatives was convened late in the evening whereby all the proceedings were conveyed, all points of concern were discussed in details. It was unanimously decided to call off the agitation on 31st December, 2021, 12:00 pm, considering various factors, including patient care," it said.
It was also decided that a national meeting with all RDAs' representatives will be convened by FORDA on January 6, it added.
Resident directors of three Centre-run facilities, Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, RML Hospital and those of Maulana Azad Medical College and its attached hospitals and several other Delhi government-run hospitals had taken part in the stir here.
Their primary demand from the Centre was expediting of the NEET PG counselling process.

In a statement issued later, FORDA said it was a "black day in the history of the medical fraternity".
"Resident doctors, the so-called 'Corona Warriors', protesting peacefully to expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021 were brutally thrashed, dragged and detained by the police," it alleged "There will be complete shutdown of all ,healthcare institutions from today onwards," the statement said.
In an official statement issued later, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Meena said, on Monday, a group of resident doctors "without having any authorised permission" blocked the BSZ Marg, main road between ITO and Delhi gate, and jammed the traffic for more than six hours".
"They deliberately created nuisance on the main road and blocked both carriageways, causing hardship and harassment to commuters and general public," he claimed in the statement.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the striking junior doctors in the state to resume their duties within 24 hours and also called their strike illegal.
Protesting medicos however remained defiant and nearly 3,000 of them resigned from their posts and announced they will challenge the ruling.
Nearly 3,000 junior doctors working in the six government medical colleges of the state submitted their resignations to the dean of their respective colleges, Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (MPJDA) president Dr Arvind Meena said. The strike, which began on Monday, will continue till their demands are fulfilled, he said.
The junior doctors have put forward multiple demands before the state government, including a hike in stipend and free treatment for them and their families if they contract the deadly coronavirus infection.

The petition cited a study by the Indian Medical Association stating that more than 75 per cent Indian doctors have faced some form of violence. 

Amid a pan-India strike of the doctors, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a PIL that demands deployment of security at government hospitals.
