Actor Gina Carano has filed a lawsuit against Lucasfilm and its parent company Disney for her 2021 firing from &lsquo;The Mandalorian.&rsquo;
With assistance from X (formerly Twitter), Gina Carano filed a federal lawsuit in California alleging wrongful termination from &lsquo;Star Wars&rsquo; series &lsquo;The Mandalorian&rsquo; on Disney+ after two seasons. The termination was purportedly due to a post equating the treatment of American conservatives to that of Jews in Nazi Germany.
&lsquo;A short time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Defendants made it clear that only one orthodoxy in thought, speech, or action was acceptable in their empire, and that those who dared to question or failed to fully comply would not be tolerated,&rsquo; the lawsuit states.
&lsquo;Carano was terminated from her role as swiftly as her character&rsquo;s peaceful home planet of Alderaan had been destroyed by the Death Star,&rsquo; it added.
The lawsuit says Lucasfilm also hurt her future work prospects by making &lsquo;maliciously false&rsquo; statements about her.
Disney and Lucasfilm have not filed a response to the lawsuit, and representatives did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.
At the time of Carano&rsquo;s firing, a Lucasfilm statement said &lsquo;her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.&rsquo;
Carano is seeking damages to be decided at trial and a court order for her to be reinstated on the show. &lsquo;The Mandalorian,&rsquo; led by Pedro Pascal, has aired three seasons and is being adapted into a feature film. Additionally, several related series are streaming on Disney+.

Carano, a former MMA artist who portrayed Cara Dune on &lsquo;The Mandalorian,&rsquo; deleted a controversial post likening current events to Nazi Germany but faced backlash online, leading to the #FireGinaCarano trend.
Her previous social media posts criticizing mask-wearing during the pandemic, alleging voter fraud in the 2020 election, and mocking gender pronouns also stirred controversy. Carano claims her &lsquo;beep/bop/boop&rsquo; bio was a &lsquo;Star Wars&rsquo; reference, not mockery, yet she faced harassment.
Despite positive outcomes from meetings with LGBTQ+ leaders, Lucasfilm demanded a public apology she felt unjustified. Carano stated X helped fund the lawsuit, with Elon Musk supporting her and offering others wronged by Disney to join the lawsuit.

In the most recent quarter, Walt Disney reported streaming losses of $400 million, alongside a decrease in subscribers. The majority of the subscriber attrition was observed in Disney Hotstar after the loss of streaming rights for Indian Premier League cricket matches. Furthermore, Disney experienced a decline of 300,000 customers in the United States and Canada, where prices were raised in December.

Disney is expected to undergo a third round of layoffs this week, reported CNN. Employees who would be let go will reportedly be notified. This round would impact over 2,500 employees. However, the positions that would be affected by this layoff is yet to be disclosed.
Disney CEO Bob Iger had announced the layoffs plan aiming to reduce the workforce by 7,000 in February. Disney had laid off around 4,000 employees in March and April. With this third wave of layoffs it is anticipated that Disney would let go over 6,500 employees inching closer to its goal of firing 7,000 workers.
As per Iger, the decision to let go people was taken to save $5.5 billion in expenditure. The company says that 20% of the cost-cutting amount is from lower expenditure on technology, procurement, and other costs, 30% from labour reduction and the remaining 50% is from marketing operations. As of October 1, Disney had employed 2,20,000 employees globally. This reduction of workforce represents 3% roughly.&nbsp;
