Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency is Samajwadi Party's stronghold. It is now going to witness a three-way contest between SP, BJP and BSP.&nbsp;

Samajwadi Party stronghold Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a tight contest this time in the Lok Sabha elections. Sitting MP Dimple Yadav, wife of SP chief Akhilesh, is up against BJP's Thakur Jaiveer Singh and BSP's Shiv Prasad Yadav.&nbsp;
Samajwadi Party is confident of maintaining its dominance in Mainpuri, that began with party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav's win in 1996. SP leaders Balram Singh Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav and Tej Pratap Singh Yadav have been voted to power from the seat, in addition to Mulayam in the 28 years since.&nbsp;&nbsp;
After Mulayam Singh's death, Dimple Yadav won the by-election in 2022 against BJP's Raghuraj Singh Shakya with a margin of around three lakh votes. She looks to be re-elected from the constituency this year.
BJP has fielded UP tourism minister Thakur Jaiveer Singh from Mainpuri. Originally from Firozabad, Singh has risen through the ranks of the BJP. He is a 3-time MLA, 2-time MLC, and was elected from Barauli in the 2022 Assembly elections.&nbsp;
The BSP candidate is former MLA Shiv Prasad Yadav. He quit the BSP to join BJP, but later parted ways with the saffron party to form his own outfit, Sarvjan Sukhaya Party, in 2023. He's back to fighting elections on a BSP ticket.&nbsp;&nbsp;

UP Lok Sabha bypoll: Dimple Yadav wins Mainpuri, SP retains stronghold

Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav on Thursday won the Mainpuri parliamentary bypoll in Uttar Pradesh, defeating her nearest rival and BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya by 2,88,461 votes.

Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav on Thursday won the Mainpuri parliamentary bypoll in Uttar Pradesh, defeating her nearest rival and BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya by 2,88,461 votes.
Considered as the SP's bastion, the seat was held by party founder and Dimple Yadav's father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav and got vacated after his death on October 10.
In 2019, Mulayam Singh Yadav won the Mainpuri seat by defeating BJP candidate Prem Singh Shakya by 94,389 votes.&nbsp;

Dimple took a comfortable lead of over 2.38 lakh votes in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency. Following defeats in Azamgarh and the Rampur Lok Sabha bypoll, considered the SP's bastions, the Mainpuri parliamentary was important for the Akhilesh Yadav-led party and his ally RLD.

UP Lok Sabha bypolls: Dimple Yadav leads from SP stronghold Mainpuri

Dimple Yadav, wife of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, is leading from the party's stronghold in Mainpuri in a Lok Sabha bypoll. 

The bypoll was necessitated following party patriatch Mulayam Singh Yadav's death.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav has taken a comfortable lead in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, while nominees of the RLD and the SP are ahead in the Khatauli and the Rampur Sadar seats respectively, according to trends for the bypolls in Uttar Pradesh.
While Yadav has taken a lead over her nearest rival BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya, RLD's Madan Bhaiya is leading by over 1,387 votes in Khatauli over BJP's Rajkumar Saini, the Election Commission website showed.
Samajwadi Party candidate Asim Raja is leading from Rampur Sadar over BJP's Akash Saxena by a margin of 3,224 votes.
Bypolls for these seats were held on December 5.
The Mainpuri parliamentary constituency, which fell vacant after the death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, had registered 54.01 per cent voting.
The Khatauli assembly segment had recorded 56.46 per cent polling on December 5 while Rampur Sadar had seen a low 33 per cent.
Bypoll in Rampur Sadar and Khatauli were necessitated due to the disqualification of SP MLA Azam Khan and BJP MLA Vikram Singh Saini following their conviction by separate courts in different matters.
The bypolls are witnessing a direct contest between the ruling BJP and the opposition Samajwadi Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) alliance. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress are not in the frays.
Following defeats in Azamgarh and the Rampur Lok Sabha bypoll, considered the SP's bastions, the Mainpuri parliamentary and the Rampur and Khatauli assembly by-elections have become important for the Akhilesh Yadav-led party and his ally RLD.
Though the outcome of the bypolls' would not make much difference to the government at the Centre as well as in Uttar Pradesh as the BJP has a comfortable majority at both the places, a win would give psychological advantage to the winner in the run-up to the 2024 general election.
