TMC leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress' Supriya Srinate have been served a show-cause notice by the Election Commission

The Election Commission on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for their offensive remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kangana Ranaut respectively.
Ranaut has been fielded by the BJP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha seat for the parliamentary elections.
Their remarks were "undignified and in bad taste", the Election Commission (EC) said.
The poll panel said that prima facie, the two remarks were violative of the Model Code of Conduct and its advisory to political parties to maintain dignity during electioneering.
The two have been asked to respond to the show-cause notices by March 29 evening.&nbsp;

The Trinamool Congress has filed a complaint&nbsp; against BJP's Dilip Ghosh with the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal. The party has alleged that the BJP MP and candidate made 'disgraceful and derogatory' against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.&nbsp;
'When she goes to Goa, she says she is the daughter of Goa. In Tripura, she says she is the daughter of Tripura. First let her decide...' the BJP candidate from Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat said.&nbsp;
This drew a retort from the TMC, which said the remarks by the BJP MP reflect the "DNA of the saffron camp".
The TMC shared the purported video clip in which Ghosh was heard making the remarks.
West Bengal Women and Child Development Minister Shashi Panja demanded an apology from Ghosh and said the comments reflect the "DNA of the saffron camp".
"He should immediately tender his apology. The comments reflect the DNA of the saffron camp, which smacks of the misogynistic mindset of the BJP. The EC must take note of it," she said.
"@DilipGhoshBJP is a disgrace in the name of political leadership! From challenging the lineage of Maa Durga to now questioning the ancestry of Smt. @MamataOfficial, he has wallowed in the filthiest depths of moral bankruptcy," the TMC posted on X.
The party also said, "One thing is crystal clear: Ghosh has zero respect for the women of Bengal, whether it be the revered goddess of Hinduism or the only woman Chief Minister of India."

The BJP central leadership cautioned the party's national vice-president Dilip Ghosh over his recent remarks questioning CBI's impartiality and asked him to refrain from making such controversial remarks in future.
Ghosh had recently stirred a hornet's nest by claiming that some CBI officers were hand in glove with the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
Continuing his tirade against the central investigating agency, Ghosh on Monday wondered what action CBI has taken in the post-poll violence in which he alleged around 60 BJP workers were killed in West Bengal after the Assembly elections last year.
"Yesterday, I got a call from our party’s national president J P Nadda. He wanted to know why I made such a remark. I explained my position. I was asked not to make such comments in future," Ghosh told PTI on Tuesday.
Embarrassed by his remarks, the state BJP unit, which swears by the impartiality of the CBI, had reported the matter to the party's top brass.
The state leadership had said that Ghosh made those remarks in his personal capacity and those are not the party's official position.
"Whatever Dilip Ghosh has said, it is his viewpoint. We have nothing to say on it," BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said.
On Sunday, Ghosh had said certain CBI officers had a "setting" with the Trinamool Congress and because of this, the Finance Ministry had sent the ED to probe the corruption cases in West Bengal and speed up investigations.
The CBI, which functions under the PMO, arrested TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal on August 11 for allegedly not cooperating with the agency in its probe into a cattle smuggling case. It has also made a number of arrests as part of its probe into the Bogtui killings in Birbhum district where a family was burnt alive in an apparent revenge attack in March this year.
Partha Chatterjee, the now suspended senior TMC leader, and his alleged close aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested on July 23 by the ED in connection with the school recruitment scam.

The Election Commission Thursday imposed a 24-hour campaigning ban on West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh over his remark that more &ldquo;Cooch Behar-like killings may happen if naughty boys like the ones who received bullets in Sitalkuchi&rdquo; try to take the law into their hands.In its order, the poll panel said after assessing Dilip Ghosh's reply to its notice, it is of the view that he violated the Model Code of Conduct by making "highly provocative and inciteful remarks" in his election speeches.The Election Commission had issued a notice to Dilip Ghosh over his controversial remarks on the Cooch Behar firing incident in which four people were killed and seven injured last Saturday.

West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh will not be contesting the upcoming <a href="https://www.editorji.com/west-bengal-assembly-election" target="_blank" >Assembly elections</a> and will continue to focus on the saffron party's campaign in the state. Speaking to news agency ANI, Ghosh said the party had decided that election campaigns in the state would be done under the state chief's supervision.
"My name won't be there in the list of candidates contesting polls. Being state chief, the party has decided that poll campaigns in the state will be done under my supervision," Ghosh said.
On Sunday, BJP announced the names of 63 candidates for the third and fourth phase of elections in Bengal, including that of Union minister Babul Supriyo and former TMC leader Rajib Banerjee. BJP had earlier released a list of 58 candidates for the first two phases of elections in Bengal.
Elections for the 294-member West Bengal assembly will be held in eight phases starting March 27.
