According to beliefs, before killing Mahishasura, Goddess Bhavani performed this dance to increase strength and energy. It starts from Saptami and continues till Ashtami and Navami. Aarti of Maa Durga is also performed from Dhunuchi.
<h2>What is Dhunuchi?</h2>
Dhuno is a plant resin of sal tree and dhunuchi is essentially an incense burner that holds the fire. They are traditionally made of clay that has natural insulation properties. It is usually lit by setting fire to the dry coconut husk on which dhuno and camphor are sprinkled. The aroma which comes from it is regarded as holy and is believed to have a purifying effect.
