Major outburst followed by Hindu outfits like Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Bhartiya Janta Party, in power in the state, was divided on the issue. While some leaders like Pratap Simha condemned the demolition, others backed the government officials and justified it as a court sanctioned action.
However, soon the Opposition jumped on the condemnation bandwagon. Using the &lsquo;hurts Hindu sentiment&rsquo; tactic, patented to BJP, the Opposition hit out at the ruling government.
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya faced the ire of Hindu activists&nbsp;up close on Thursday during a visit to Chikkamagaluru district. Surya blamed the Congress for fanning the Hindu anger.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had stepped in and halted the drive in order to quell the rising protest. The state also issued a show-cause notice to Mysuru&nbsp;administration for carrying out the government-sanctioned drive.
Caught in the political &amp; communal crossfire, the district administration was merely following out the Apex Court&rsquo;s order and working on a list created by the state government. Over 6,000 structures &mdash; including religious structures belonging to all communities &mdash; have been identified as encroaching on public roads and utilities.&nbsp;

Days after a tribal man died in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh after being beaten and then dragged by a pick-up truck, the district administration on Sunday razed the illegal properties of those accused in the murder case.
Visuals shared by news agency ANI showed an earth mover bringing down a single-storey house. Mahendra Gurjar, the husband of the village sarpanch, was among the people whose properties were demolished.
40-year-old Kanhaiyalal Bheel was beaten up badly on Thursday on the suspicion of theft. The assaulters then tied his feet with a rope and dragged him on road by a pick up truck. He died of his injuries in a local hospital.
The video of the horrific incident has led to massive outrage and five of the 8 accused were arrested. They have been charged with murder and under the SC/ST Act.
