Earlier, over 85 per cent of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's 250 elected councillors cast their votes on Friday as a fresh poll is being conducted to elect six members of the civic body's standing committee.
Polling began around 11.15 am and nearly 220 councillors had cast their votes by 2 pm.

The municipal House failed to elect a mayor on Monday after a ruckus erupted over the nominated members being allowed to vote in the election to the post.

After the Delhi municipal House was adjourned for the third time in a month without electing a mayor, the AAP on Monday said it will move the Supreme Court so that the polls can be held in a "court-monitored manner".

Soon after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House assembled around 11:30 am, after a delay of half an hour, Presiding Officer Satya Sharma announced that aldermen will be allowed to vote in elections to the posts of mayor, deputy mayor and Standing Committee members which will be held simultaneously.
This drew protests from AAP councillors. Party leader Mukesh Goel said aldermen can't vote.
After emerging from the House, AAP leader Atishi told reporters, "We will go to the Supreme Court, and we will go today itself so that the mayoral elections can be held in a court-monitored manner." "Our demands are that the mayoral election be held in a time-bound manner in the next two weeks and the aldermen be not allowed to vote," she said.
Atishi claimed the BJP had planned to disrupt the proceedings so that the House could be adjourned.
Addressing a press conference, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said: "We will go to the Supreme Court now to have the mayoral election conducted." "The BJP is strangulating democracy and the Constitution of India. The presiding officer allowed the aldermen to vote in mayoral polls, which is wrong as per the Constitution and is against democracy," he said.
The presiding officer also said the polls to elect mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the Standing Committee will be held simultaneously, which is also wrong as the agenda stated that the mayoral elections will be held first, the AAP leader pointed out.
The first two sessions of the municipal House -- held on January 6 and January 24 -- were adjourned by the presiding officer without electing a mayor following a ruckus and acrimonious exchanges between the members of the BJP and the AAP.
According to the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act, 1957, the mayor and the deputy mayor are to be elected in the very first session of the House after the civic polls. However, it's been two months since the municipal elections were held on December 4 and Delhi is yet to get a mayor.

He also asserted that the BJP would perform well in Gujarat, where counting of votes will be taken up on Thursday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the party could have devoted more attention to the contest, had it not coincided with Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections.

He also asserted that the BJP would perform well in Gujarat, where counting of votes will be taken up on Thursday.

With the BJP losing the Delhi civic polls on Wednesday, the saffron party's top leader from northeast and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the party could have devoted more attention to the contest, had it not coincided with Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections.
He also asserted that the BJP would perform well in Gujarat, where counting of votes will be taken up on Thursday.
The chief minister, however, did not comment on the party's prospects in Himachal Pradesh.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday bagged 134 out of 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to emerge as the winner, thereby ending BJP's 15-year-long tenure at the civic body.

The saffron camp managed to finish with 104 wards in its kitty.
The Congress clinched nine wards and Independents three.
"In Delhi, we were being given 60-70 seats (exit poll prediction), but we have done much better," Sarma said on the sidelines of a programme.
"Had the elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh not happened alongside, we could have focused more on Delhi," he added, indicating that the results might have swayed in favour of the BJP.
Sarma had campaigned for his party both in Gujarat and Delhi.
The BJP leader further said, "A very good result is expected from Gujarat tomorrow." The chief minister also maintained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity is on the rise.
"Several elections are held within a five-year period. One thing we can understand is that Modiji&rsquo;s popularity has only been increasing over time," Sarma added.

Delhi MCD election 2022 results : Results of the hotly-contested MCD elections will be revealed today, with the national capital seeing a 3-way contest between the Aam Aadmi Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Indian National Congress.
42 centres have been set up to count votes cast in 250 wards. Delhi saw a voter turnout of 50.48% on 4 December, which is lower than the 2017 elections.
Most exit polls favoured an Aam Aadmi Party victory, with BJP a distant second, and the Congress decimated.

Twenty companies of paramilitary personnel and over 10,000 officers of Delhi Police have been deployed at the counting centres.
Besides the counting centres, heavy police presence will also be ensured outside the offices of political parties, officials said. Adequate security personnel will also be deployed to prevent clashes between activists of different parties.
The police are also keeping tabs on strongrooms where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored, and the counting centres.
