‘Panchayat’ tops IMDb most popular web series 2022 list, ‘Delhi Crime’, ‘Rocket Boys’ in list too

A list of top 10 most popular Indian web series was announced by IMDb.

IMDb has announced the top 10 most popular Indian web series of 2022. The list looked at all the web series that released in India between January 1 and November 7 with an average user rating of 7 or higher and at least 10,000 votes. It included popular series like &lsquo;Panchayat&rsquo;, &lsquo;Delhi Crime&rsquo;, &lsquo;Rocket Boys&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Human&rsquo; among others
The second season of Jitendra Kumar&rsquo;s &lsquo;Panchayat&rsquo; was released this year and it easily won over the audience. It has an 8.9 rating based on over 71000 votes.
Set in a village in Uttar Pradesh, the show revolves around a UPSC aspirant who ends up working at the Panchayat office. It also stars Raghubir Yadav and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles. &lsquo;These 10 titles were consistently the most popular with IMDb users, as determined by the actual page views of the more than 200 million monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide. This exclusive and definitive data is derived from IMDb TV rankings, which are updated weekly throughout the year&hellip;,&rsquo; IMDb&rsquo;s statement read.
According to IMDb, the list has representation from six subscription-based platforms- Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, Zee5, and SonyLIV.
Two series from the list, &lsquo;NCR Days&rsquo; and &lsquo;Campus Diaries&rsquo;, are available on AVOD platforms YouTube and MX Player, respectively.

Well, enter in the world of the streaming giant Netflix's most controversial movies and web-series.
'13 Reasons Why' Two years after '13 Reasons Why' part 1 hit Netflix, the streaming site edited out the show's narrator Hannah Baker's graphic suicide scene. The move came after several protests against the suicide sequence. After consulting with medical experts, the streaming site realised that it was best to not have Hannah's exact suicide method on display for viewers. Not just this, '13 Reasons Why' came under fire for its portrayal of many sensitive subjects including rape, drug addiction, and much more.
 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl'
Netflix's recent offering 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' starring Janhvi Kapoor in the titular role attracted severe backlash due to its negative portrayal of the Indian Armed Forces. The IAF later wrote a letter to Censor Board stating that they found certain scenes and dialogues in the movie and trailer portraying&nbsp;the IAF&nbsp;in a&nbsp;negative light.&nbsp;The letter further raised objection over presenting some situations in a misleading manner and hinting at&nbsp;inappropriate work culture against women in IAF.&nbsp;
 'Bird Box'&nbsp;
'Bird Box' drew criticism for its inclusion of actual footage of a train wreckage which had led to 47 real life deaths. After public outcry, Netflix agreed to re-edit the movie without the actual footage out of respect to the real victims. Apart from this, the film grabbed eyeballs when it inspired a 'Bird Box challenge' wherein people attempted to do everyday activities while being blindfolded. This prompted Netflix to issue several statements, requesting the audience to not participate in such events.
Delhi Crime
Based on the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape, 'Delhi Crime' landed in a legal soup when&nbsp;Anil Sharma, the&nbsp;SHO&nbsp; of Delhi's Vasant Vihar claimed that his character depiction in show as a 'dumb and slow' officer was fabricated by the makers for 'commercial profit'. However, the director of the show Richie Mehta later allegedly apologised to the SHO and said that 'some of the events, dialogue and chronology of the show have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes'.
Tiger King
A real-crime documentary miniseries on zoo-keeper Joe Exotic, 'Tiger King' too had its share of uproar. After the netizens became obsessed with the series and the show reached its peak success, a wave of criticism followed. Both the Humane Society and PETA slammed the makers for glossing over the issue of tiger abuse. They also brought up the devastating consequences when baby tigers are separated from their mothers too early in light.

Netflix had to issue several requests as there were incidents where people attempted to do everyday activities while being blindfolded.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; 'Delhi Crime' The fictionalized account of the Nirbhaya gangrape case didn&rsquo;t go well with a Delhi police officer. Anil Sharma, the station house officer at the Vasant Vihar police station argued that his character depiction as a 'dumb and slow' officer was fabricated for 'commercial profit'. The matter was sorted out of court as the police offer reportedly got an apology from the makers. &nbsp; 'Tiger King' A real-crime documentary miniseries on zoo-keeper Joe Exotic, 'Tiger King' too had its share of uproar. A wave of criticism followed after the initial success. One of Tiger King&rsquo;s directors, Eric Goode, revealed that one of the real goals behind the docuseries was to encourage people not to give their money to sanctuaries,&nbsp;but animal rights groups were clearly not impressed.
