Odisha announces a 2% DA increase for government employees and pensioners, raising DA from 53% to 55%.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced a two per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners.
With this hike, the ratio of DA for government employees and TI (temporary increase) for pensioners will rise from 53 per cent to 55 per cent, an official release issued by the CMO said.
It said the hike will be implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2025.
Employees will receive the increased DA as cash benefit along with their April salary.
This decision will benefit around 8.5 lakh state government employees and pensioners, the release added.

The DA to be received from July 2024 will now be calculated from zero, based on the All India Consumer Price Index numbers between January and June

The Central Government has raised the Dearness Allowance or DA to 50% for January 2024 for central govt employees. However, there is a change in the calculation method. The DA to be received from July 2024 will now be calculated from zero, based on the All India Consumer Price Index numbers between January and June. The January AICPI numbers, released in February, indicate a 1% increase in dearness allowance. Additionally, Dearness Relief (DR) for central government pensioners has been increased by 4% to 50%. The revised DA is effective from January 1, 2024. DA calculation method The calculation method for Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central government employees is set to undergo a shift in 2024. As of January 1, employees are receiving a 50% DA. According to the rule, once the DA reaches 50%, it will be merged with the basic salary, and the calculation will reset from zero. However, there is currently no clarity provided by the Labor Bureau regarding this process. Consequently, the calculation of dearness allowance is expected to continue beyond the 50% mark for the time being.

Along with hike in DA, transport allowance, canteen allowance, and deputation allowance among others have been increased by 25%. Benefits under gratuity have been increased by 25% with an increase ceiling of Rs 25 lakh from the existing Rs 20 lakh

The Centre on Thursday hiked Dearness Allowance (DA) to 50% of basic pay from the existing rate of 46% effective from January 1 this year, benefitting over 1 crore employees and pensioners ahead of general elections.
<h3>Hike in DA</h3>
The Union Cabinet has approved to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners from January 1, 2024, representing an increase of 4 percentage points over the existing rate of 46% of the basic pay/pension, to compensate against price rise, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said after the Cabinet meeting.
The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs 12,869 crore per annum. The impact would be Rs 15,014 crore during the year 2024-25 (January 2024 to February 2025).

With the increase in DA, transport allowance, canteen allowance, and deputation allowance among others have been increased by 25%. House Rent Allowance has been raised from 27%, 19% and 9% of basic pay to 30%, 20% and 10%, respectively.
Benefits under gratuity have been increased by 25% with an increase ceiling of Rs 25 lakh from the existing Rs 20 lakh. The burden on the exchequer due to an increase in various allowances would be Rs 9,400 crore annually.
The increase in DA and DR in accordance with the accepted formula, is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
The decision is likely to benefit 49.18 lakh central government employees besides 67.95 lakh pensioners as Dearness Relief (DR) has been increased at the same rate.

7th Pay Commission: Central govt employees' DA may increase by 4% in March

The government may increase the dearness allowance of Central Government employees by 4% in March. The DA adjustments which is applicable to both employees and pensioners, is determined based on the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW). The CPI-W is released every month by the Labour Bureau.&nbsp;
As per media reports, the dearness allowance and dearness relief will increase to 50%.&nbsp;
<h3>7th Pay Commission</h3>
The increase in DA will be in accordance with the accepted formula, based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The cabinet had last announced an increase in the DA for government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners by 4% in October 2023. By that the DA was increased to 46% from 42%.&nbsp;
Dearness Allowance is a cost-of-living adjustment allowance provided by the government to public sector employees and pensioners. It is calculated as a percentage of the basic salary.
Earlier, the government had approved Diwali bonuses for Group C and non-gazetted Group B level officials, including paramilitary forces. For the financial year 2022&ndash;2023, the finance ministry had set Rs 7,000 limit for the computation of non-productivity linked bonuses (ad hoc bonuses) for central government employees.
