A celebratory wedding anniversary in Bareilly ended in tragedy when trader Wasim collapsed from a heart attack during a dance, prompting a call for heightened heart health awareness and regular check-ups.

Tragedy strikes: Trader dies during anniversary dance

In Bareilly, 45-year-old Wasim, a shoe trader, tragically died of a heart attack during his 25th wedding anniversary dance. Immediate rescue attempts failed, and his death underscores the importance of regular health check-ups.

A 45-year-old shoe trader suffered a fatal heart attack while dancing with his wife during their 25th wedding anniversary celebration here.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at a banquet hall in Bareilly's Shahabad locality, where family and friends had gathered for the occasion.
Video footage of the event shows Wasim dancing with his wife Farah lightly for about two minutes, smiling as relatives clapped along. Without any visible distress, he suddenly stepped aside, lost balance, and collapsed.
Family members rushed him to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a heart attack and was declared dead on arrival.
Baradari police station in-charge Dhananjay Pandey said the family did not inform authorities about the death.
"Had they reported it, a post-mortem could have been conducted to determine the exact cause of death," he said.
Senior cardiologist Dr. Pankaj Agarwal, analysing the video, suggested that Wasim may have suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
"In such cases, the heart abruptly stops functioning, often due to undiagnosed coronary artery blockages," he explained.
Many individuals mistake early symptoms for gas or muscle pain, and if they engage in strenuous activity like dancing, it can trigger a cardiac arrest.
He advised regular health check-ups to prevent such occurrences.
Wasim was laid to rest on Thursday, with grieving relatives recalling how he had eagerly planned the anniversary celebrations in advance, unaware that the joyous occasion would turn tragic.

She was born in 1951 in a progressive family in Rawalpindi, and raised in Karachi. Her foray into dance began early, through her mother, a Bharatnatyam dancer.
Sheema also visited India many times for training in the 1980s. She turned into a politico-cultural rebel when General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq's military dictatorship began.
The military regime banned dance, calling it un-Islamic, and discouraged attires like sarees. However, Sheema continued to wear sarees, and sport a 'bindi' on her forehead, as a symbol of her resistance.
She told The Indian Express that she had to play with words to get permission from the Pakistani government for her events. Instead of "dance performance", she would call it "cultural programme".
One of her most memorable performances with a social message was the dance at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine, days after the suicide attack in 2017. The bombing had killed over 85 people.
Sheema said that she performed at the shrine to ensure that the attack did not "change anything".
