According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, the addition of dairy foods into the daily diet of older people living in residential care facilities can&nbsp;reduce the risk of fractures. Researchers&nbsp;also found that calcium-rich foods such as milk, yogurt and cheese can help prevent bone fragility from falls.&nbsp;

The two-year trial led by the University of Melbourne and Austin Health included 7195 residents from 60 Victorian aged-care facilities.&nbsp;Older adults living in residential care often have low calcium and protein intake, which can lead to weak bones.
According to the team, dairy food intake from 2 serves per day to 3.5 serves per day can significantly lower the risk of fractures.
As per the findings, there was a 33 percent reduction in all fractures with a significant reduction apparent between three and five months after the trial began.

Published in the&nbsp;American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the study claims that&nbsp;whole-fat milk is just as healthy for kids as low-fat. A randomised trial of&nbsp;49 children aged four to six&nbsp;years&nbsp;assessed each child&rsquo;s obesity, body composition, blood pressure, and blood biomarkers. The researchers found that, overall,&nbsp;there was no significant difference observed in both groups&rsquo; cardiovascular health and obesity.

In a media release, the lead author explained that it&nbsp;was earlier&nbsp;believed that young children would benefit from low-fat dairy products due to&nbsp;the&nbsp;lower levels of saturated fats and lower density of energy&nbsp;in them.&nbsp;However, the findings&nbsp;suggest that healthy children may safely consume whole-fat dairy without fear of increased obesity or adverse cardiometabolic effects.&nbsp;

For the study, researchers examined the dairy fat consumption of more than 4,000 participants in Sweden. They measured blood levels of a particular fatty acid that&rsquo;s mostly found in dairy foods. Experts then followed the participants for an average of 16 years to observe how many had heart attacks, strokes and how many of them died.
Researchers found that those with a high intake of dairy fats had the lowest risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as no increased risk of death from all causes. The team also confirmed the findings in other populations after combining the Swedish results with 17 other studies involving nearly 43,000 people from the U.S., Denmark and the UK.
