Pakistan, though, was largely spared the full force of &nbsp;Cyclone Biparjoy which weakened into a severe cyclonic storm on Friday after making landfall in Gujarat.&nbsp;
People evacuated from regions that were identified as vulnerable are safe in relief camps but worried about the situation back home. On both sides of the border, the displaced are concerned if they have a home to go back to.&nbsp;
According to the Gujarat govt, among 1,09,000 persons shifted from coastal areas to temporary shelters, there were 10,918 children, 5,070 senior citizens and 1,152 pregnant women.&nbsp;
According to Pakistan's Sindh govt, as many as 67,367 people were evacuated from the three vulnerable districts &mdash; Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin &mdash; and 39 relief camps were set up to house them.

Cyclone Biparjoy has started making landfall near Jakhau Port in Gujarat's Kutch district after churning across the Arabian Sea for over 10 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Thursday evening. Winds of up to 145 kmph and heavy rains battered Kutch and Saurashtra coasts as agencies remain on high alert.
The landfall process will be completed by midnight.
Authorities have evacuated around one lakh people living in vulnerable areas following a prompt warning from the IMD about the "extensive damaging potential" of the cyclone.
Officials said 15 NDRF teams, 12 teams of the State Disaster Response Force and personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard and Border Security Force have been deployed for relief and rescue operations.
The Met office had earlier warned of very heavy (11.5 cm to 20.4 cm) to extremely heavy rainfall (over 20.5 cm) in Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi and Junagarh districts.
"We won't be surprised if some areas record more than 25 cm of rainfall. Usually, they do not receive such intense precipitation at this time of the year. Therefore, there is a risk of flooding in the low-lying areas," IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had cautioned.
Meteorologists had warned of extensive damage to standing crops, houses, roads, electricity and communication poles, and flooding of escape routes.

Many trees and electricity poles were uprooted near Jakhau and Mandvi towns in Kutch district while tin sheets used in house construction were blown away.
Until 7 pm there had been no report of death, said Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi.
"Three persons have sustained injuries in Devbhoomi Dwarka district due to treefall and are being treated. Teams of Gujarat police, NDRF and Army are working in different parts of Dwarka to remove uprooted trees and electricity poles," he added.
Dwarka, Okha, Naliya, Bhuj, Porbandar and Kandla along Gujarat coasts received heavy rainfall since Thursday morning. The coastal area witnessed strong winds of up to 50 kmph, the IMD said.
The state administration said till Thursday evening it had shifted over 94,000 persons living in eight coastal districts to temporary shelters.&nbsp;

The cyclone will weaken and move further over Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Pali and Sirohi where very heavy rainfall is likely, the official said, adding that heavy rains may also occur in Rajsamand, Dungarpur and nearby areas on Friday and Saturday.
Strong winds with a speed of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour are expected in the adjoining areas of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore and Jodhpur on Friday and in the adjoining areas of Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer on Saturday.
Eight companies of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner and one company of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Kishangarh in Ajmer district to rescue people affected by the heavy rains.
The local administration in the affected districts has also made preparations, such as an arrangement of pumps and deployment of civil defence and disaster management teams, in view of the "red" and "orange"

Fishing boats have been anchored, large ships sent to high seas, more than 4,000 hoardings taken down and salt pan workers and pregnant women have been taken to safer places as authorities have evacuated about 1 lakh people in Gujarat in the wake of Cyclone 'Biparjoy', NDRF DG Atul Karwal said Thursday.
The head of the federal contingency force said the NDRF has also kept on alert 15 teams in the north, east and south of the country to airlift them and reinforce the strength of these 33 teams which have been earmarked for cyclone relief and rescue work in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
A total of 18 teams have been stationed in Gujarat which is predicted to take the maximum brunt of the cyclonic storm and resulting strong winds and heavy rains.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 'Biparjoy' is expected to make landfall Thursday evening near Jakhau port as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum wind speed reaching up to 150 kilometres per hour.
Based on the information shared by Gujarat government authorities, about 1 lakh people have been evacuated from the coastal and low-lying areas of Gujarat by 9 am Thursday, Karwal told reporters here.
We have 18 teams deployed and kept on stand-by to undertake quick rescue operations in Gujarat, he said.
The DG said the maximum of four teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been positioned in Kutch district and the Gujarat government has done an in-depth evacuation exercise as part of which fishing boats have been anchored, big ships have been sent to the high seas so that they are not affected by the tidal waves, more than 4,000 hoarding have been taken down so that they don't become deadly flying objects as strong winds blow.
Salt pan workers and pregnant women have also been taken to safer locations and hospital respectively, the DG said.
Our aim is to ensure that the loss of lives and property remains minimum and we have equipped our teams with tree and pole cutters to ensure communication links are kept open and restored quickly once the cyclonic effect is over, he said.
Some low-lying areas may face flooding instances due to heavy rains and hence our teams will have inflatable boats to rescue people from these areas, Karwal added.
He said five teams each in the north, east and south have been kept in readiness and they can be airlifted by Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft as soon as required.
There teams are in Bathinda, Punjab (north), Mundali in Odisha (east) and Arakkonam in Chennai (south). We have prepared for more than what was required and all the agencies are working to ensure minimum loss of life and property, the DG said.
While 18 NDRF teams have been placed in Gujarat, one has been stationed in neighbouring Diu in the newly formed Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
Diu is encircled by Gir Somnath and Amreli districts of Gujarat in the north and by the Arabian Sea from three sides.
Giving a layout of the NDRF deployment in Gujarat, officials said four NDRF teams have been deployed in Kutch district, three each in Rajkot and Devbhumi Dwarka, two in Jamnagar, one each in Porbandar, Junagarh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Valsad and Gandhinagar.
In the neighbouring state of Maharashtra, out of the total 14 NDRF teams, five have been deployed in Mumbai while the rest have been kept on standby, officials have said.

Learning from past experiences, Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) has deployed six HAM radio teams, two of them in Kutch, and mobile units for seamless communication after Biparjoy hits the shore near Jakhau port.
HAM radio is considered a reliable mode of messaging during emergencies when wirelines, mobile phones and other traditional terrestrial means of communication fail. Also known as amateur radio, HAM radio involves the use of radio frequency spectrum for non-commercial exchange of messages.
&ldquo;GSDMA has deployed six teams with HAM radio units where the impact of the cyclone will likely be the most. Of them, two are in Kutch,&rdquo; Dr Kausal Jani, HAM radio operator of GSDMA, told PTI.
During a cyclone, when all communication networks fail and electricity is not available, HAM radio works, he said. &ldquo;It does not require any mobile tower or internet to make calls,&rdquo; he explained.
This mode of communication is quite useful in such disasters, he said.
&ldquo;We can communicate emergency requirements through HAM radio like the need for ambulances or call disaster response teams when people require to be rescued,&rdquo; he said.
When cyclone Tauktae hit the coast in May 2021, communication and electrical networks were down for six days, said Gaurav Prajapati of GSDMA. &ldquo;We had to communicate through (HAM) radio only,&rdquo; said the official.
A mobile HAM radio unit has also been deployed in Jakhau, where the cyclone is likely to make landfall in the evening.&nbsp;

Fishing activities have been suspended till June 16, ports are shut and ships are anchored as the sea turned turbulent and weather became inclement with extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds in the region due to the approaching cyclone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said rescue teams were ensuring the safe evacuation of people living in vulnerable locations in the path of Cyclone Biparjoy, which is likely to make landfall in Gujarat's Kutch.
The prime minister chaired a high-level meeting here to review the preparedness of the Centre as well as the Gujarat government to deal with the situation arising out of the impending cyclone, which is also expected to impact Pakistan.
According to a statement by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Modi has directed senior officers to take every possible measure to ensure that people living in vulnerable locations are safely evacuated by the state government.
The railways have activated its disaster management set-up to minimize the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy, which is likely to make landfall in Gujarat this week, officials said on Monday.

As cyclone Biparjoy with an extensive damaging potential is likely to make landfall near Jakhau port in Gujarat's Kutch district on June 15 evening, the administration has so far shifted 21,000 people from different coastal districts to temporary shelters while several NDRF and SDRF teams are on standby, an official said on Tuesday.
He said the evacuation process was still underway and all the targeted population will be shifted to safer places by this evening.
The state government is aiming to evacuate people within 10 km of the coast, the official said, adding so far one fatality related to the cyclone has been recorded.
"We have already started evacuating people residing near the coast who are likely to be affected the most during the landfall. So far, various district administrations have shifted nearly 21,000 people to temporary shelters. The evacuation process is still on and all the targeted population will be shifted by today evening to safer places," said State Commissioner of Relief, Alok Kumar Pandey.
Ahmedabad IMD director Manorama Mohanty said the cyclone is likely to cross between Mandvi in Kutch and Karachi in Pakistan near Jakhau port with 125-135 kmph wind speed gusting to 150 kmph on the evening of June 15.
