Iraqi activists protested to demand a law against domestic violence, days after a YouTuber was strangled by her father in a killing that has outraged the conservative country.
Tiba al-Ali, 22, was killed by her father on January 31 in the southern province of Diwaniyah, interior ministry spokesman Saad Maan said on Twitter on Friday.
Maan said there had been an attempt to mediate between the young woman and her relatives to resolve a "family dispute". The father later surrendered to the police and confessed to murdering his daughter.
On Sunday, security forces prevented some 20 activists from demonstrating outside the country's Supreme Judicial Council, and they gathered instead at a road leading to the building, an AFP journalist said.
Some held placards saying "Stop killing women" and "Tiba's killer must be held to account".
"We demand laws to protect women, especially laws against domestic violence," 22-year-old protester Rose Hamid told AFP.

Another demonstrator, Lina Ali, said: "We will keep mobilising because of rising domestic violence and killings of women."
On the sidelines of Sunday's demonstration, human rights activist Hanaa Edwar was received by a magistrate from the Supreme Judicial Council to whom she presented the protesters' grievances.
Tiba al-Ali had lived in Turkey since 2017 and was visiting Iraq when she was killed, a security official in Diwaniyah told AFP.
In Turkey she had gained a following on YouTube, posting videos of her daily life in which her fiance often appeared.
Recordings have been shared on social media by a friend of Ali, and picked up by activists, reportedly of conversations with the father, angry because she was living in Turkey.
In the recordings, she also accuses her brother of sexual harassment.

The girl has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
"She has suffered 7-8 per cent facial burns and her eyes have also been affected. She is being examined. She is admitted in the burn ICU and is stable," a doctor said.
One of the alleged culprits has been detained, police said.
According to police, the matter was reported to them around 9 am and the victim was attacked in Mohan Garden area.
"A PCR call was received around 9 am regarding an incident of throwing acid on a girl in the area of Mohan Garden Police Station.
"It was stated that a girl aged 17 years was allegedly attacked with some acid-like substance by two persons on a bike around 7.30 am this morning," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan.
The girl was with her younger sister at the time of the incident, the officer said.
According to police, CCTV footage of the incident has captured two people throwing 'acid' at the girl.
The girl has named two persons who could be responsible for the attack, one of whom has been detained by police, the DCP added.
In a post on Twitter, Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal demanded justice for the school-going girl and criticised the government for not being able to enforce the ban on the over-the-counter sale of acid in the country.
"Acid was thrown at a school girl near Dwarka Mor. Our team is reaching the hospital to help the victim. Will get justice for the daughter. The Delhi Commission for Women has been fighting for years to ban acid in the country. When will the government wake up?" she wrote in a tweet in Hindi.
Aam Aadmi Party National Spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj also raised concerns over the &ldquo;increasing&rdquo; rate of crime in the national capital.
"LG Saab, you have Delhi Police and crime is increasing every day. Instead of interfering in the work of the Delhi government, you should concentrate on your work. After your arrival, crimes are increasing in Delhi," he tweeted in Hindi.

Asserting that a woman or a girl is killed every 11 minutes by an intimate partner or a family member, UN chief Antonio Guterres has said that violence against them is the most pervasive "human rights violation" in the world and called on governments to implement national action plans that tackle this scourge.
Secretary General Guterres made these remarks ahead of the International Day for the 'Elimination of Violence against Women' which is observed on November 25.
&ldquo;Violence against women and girls is the most pervasive human rights violation in the world. Every 11 minutes, a woman or a girl is killed by an intimate partner or family member &mdash; and we know that other stresses, from the COVID-19 pandemic to economic turmoil, inevitably lead to even more physical and verbal abuse,&rdquo; Guterres said.
Guterres' remarks come in the backdrop of the recent Shraddha Walker murder case that has shocked India with its brutal details.
He said women and girls also face rampant online violence, from misogynistic hate speech to sexual harassment, image abuse and grooming by predators.
"This discrimination, violence and abuse targeting half of humanity come at a steep cost. It limits women&rsquo;s and girls&rsquo; participation in all walks of life, denies their basic rights and freedoms, and blocks the equal economic recovery and sustainable growth our world needs,&rdquo; he said.
The UN chief gave a clarion call to all to &ldquo;consign violence against women and girls to the history books,&rdquo; saying now is the time for transformative action that ends violence against women and girls.
He said this means governments designing, funding and implementing national action plans to tackle this scourge, involving grass-roots and civil society groups at every stage of decision-making and ensuring that laws are implemented and respected, so survivors see their rights to justice and support upheld.
Calling on governments to increase funding by 50 per cent to women&rsquo;s rights organisations and movements by 2026, Guterres urged all to take a &ldquo;stand and raise our voices in support of women&rsquo;s rights&rdquo; and proudly declare that &ldquo;we are all feminists.&rdquo; He called for supporting public campaigns that challenge patriarchal norms and promote different forms of masculinities that reject misogyny and violence.
Noting that this year&rsquo;s theme on an international day is &lsquo;UNITE: Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls&rsquo;, Guterres said it means standing with activists around the world who are calling for change and supporting survivors of violence.

The state government&rsquo;s decision to send a teenage acid attack victim to AIIMS, New Delhi for better treatment and not the deceased girl from Dumka, who succumbed to her injuries five days after the attack, is being questioned by the BJP.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday sought a report from the Jharkhand director general of police on the death of the teenage girl who succumbed after being set afire by a man apparently after she spurned his advances.
The state government&rsquo;s decision to send another teenager, who is an acid attack victim, to AIIMS in New Delhi for better treatment sparked a war of words between the ruling and opposition camps of the state with the BJP wondering why the Dumka girl did not get the same facility.
A two-member NCW team visited the family members of the deceased in Dumka.
&ldquo;We have sought a report from the DGP. We came here to take a first-hand report of the incident,&rdquo; NCW member Shalini Singh told reporters.
A team of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is also scheduled to visit Dumka on September 4, officials said.
Though the police had initially claimed that the deceased was an adult, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Dumka district later said that the class 12 student who died days after being set on fire was a minor.
The main accused, identified as Shahrukh, on August 23 allegedly poured petrol on the girl from outside the window of her room when she was sleeping and set her on fire. The teenager succumbed to her injuries on August 28. Shahrukh was arrested.
Leaders of the BJP and opposition BJP, and the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/congress-youtube-channel-deleted-party-initiates-probe-1661353457894">Congress</a> and the JMM, on behalf of the ruling coalition, also visited her family.
BJP leaders - Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, North-east Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari and former Delhi legislator Kapil Mishra - met the family members of the victim during the day and alleged that 'severe negligence' and 'appeasement politics of the ruling dispensation led to her death.
They raised questions about why she was not taken to Delhi by air ambulance like the acid attack victim and why no member of Chief Minister <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/jharkhand-ruling-alliance-mlas-being-flown-out-amid-poaching-fears-over-hemant-soren-s-ec-trouble-1661856897018">Hemant Soren</a>&rsquo;s family visited her family.
"The CM and others had time to enjoy picnics and parties at dams and resorts. But not a member of the Soren family visited the victim," Dubey said.
Amid a political crisis triggered by an EC ruling on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren&rsquo;s continuance as an MLA, MLAs of the ruling coalition spent a few hours at Latratu in Khunti district, some 40 kilometres from Ranchi.
Dubey said JMM supremo Shibu Soren and his sons Hemant Soren and Basant Soren all have represented the Dumka assembly constituency.
Claiming that it was a case of &lsquo;love jehad&rsquo;, he said that Rs 28 lakh collected through crowd-funding has been handed over to the victim's family.

The BJP leader asserted that it was not a Hindu/Muslim issue, but an attempt by fundamental forces to divide the country on religious lines.
He claimed that Union <a href="https://www.editorji.com/partner/news-minute/home-minister-amit-shah-meets-junior-ntr-ramoji-rao-in-hyderabad-1661167116789">Home Minister Amit Shah</a> had recently sought a report from Jharkhand Chief Secretary and DGP about the changing demography in the state during the last 10 years.
Reacting to the allegations, JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya accused the BJP of politicising the incident and claimed that the saffron party is all out to disturb the social fabric.
Bhattacharya claimed that a similar incident had occurred during the chief ministership of BJP&rsquo;s Raghubar Das but the JMM did not cite any other angle as a criminal is a criminal.
On charges that the Dumka girl was not taken to Delhi, he said that the medical board did not permit that for her.
The acid attack victim was taken to <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/modi-govt-to-rename-aiims-watch-what-each-medical-institute-will-be-named-after-1661133711254">AIIMS</a> in New Delhi on Wednesday after getting the go-ahead from the medical board, Bhattacharya said and claimed that the BJP was resorting to &ldquo;blatant lies&rdquo;.
Congress MP Geeta Kora and JMM legislator Lobin Hembrom also visited the family.
Kora demanded the death penalty for the culprit to check the recurrence of such a crime.

The woman, who has two daughters aged seven and two, has been admitted to a hospital where her condition remains critical, they said.
A purpoted video of the incident shows two female relatives kicking and punching the woman as she lies on the ground. It also shows them dragging the woman by her and also banging her head against the ground. 
Superintendent of Police, Mahoba, Sudha Singh said, "A 31-year-old woman from the Ramnagar Jukha area under Kotwali Police station was attacked by her husband and in-laws. The incident took place on Thursday night." "In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was assaulted by her in-laws for not bearing a son. Her husband also forced a wooden stick into her private parts," she said.
The woman was later abandoned outside the family's house while her husband and in-laws fled, Singh said.
The victim alleged that she was harassed regularly by her in-laws over the issue, she said.
Based on the complaint, an FIR has been lodged under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code against the woman's husband and in-laws, the SP said.
Efforts are being made to arrest the accused, she said.
