In a bid to go green, New York has become the sixth US state to legalise human composting, meaning that after a person is dead, their body can be turned into soil.&nbsp;
The move is seen as an environment friendly alternative to burial or cremation.

This process is called natural organic reduction in which materials like wood chips, straw grass are placed alongside the dead in the container. After the body has decayed in a month's time, the soil is handed over to the deceased's family which can be use for planting trees, vegetables or flowers.

Ankita Bhandari, the 19-year-old female receptionist who was allegedly killed by her employer Pulkit Arya--son of now expelled BJP leader Vinod Arya and two other resort staff was cremated at her hometown in Uttarakhand. 
The last rites were performed amid heavy security and a huge crowd of locals at the NIT ghat in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal. 
Bhandari’s family refused to perform her last rites earlier and demanded that her autopsy report be made public. The family even questioned the government's intention of demolishing the resort which had the evidence related to Bhandari’s case. However, the family agreed to cremate the body after administration's intervention 
The gruesome murder of Ankita Bhandari had sparked massive outrage among locals in Uttarakhand. On Sunday, the locals blocked the Srinagar-Kedarnath highway in protest and despite requests from the administration and the family, the protesters refused to move.  
The initial post-mortem report of the female receptionist stated that she died due to drowning and that her body bore signs of injury caused by blunt force. 
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami again assured the family of harshest action on the culprits.

Dulari Bhat's husband had been killed in the 1990s, but she stayed back in her native village with her children. Her son Subhash thanked the Muslim community for help in his mother's cremation. He said, "My mother passed away today. Muslim brothers supported me a lot. All the arrangements were made with their help. I want to tell people to see this brotherhood. Forget other things. Members of all communities should be able to live peacefully with each other. For our nation, all communities should peacefully co-exist."
Other residents of YK Pora said that communal harmony was a part of the village's history and culture. "We live in YK Pora and this village is cited as an example of communal harmony. This brotherhood is not new. It's very old. Our fathers, grandfathers, ancestors lived in peace. Their (Pandit family) younger son's name is Rinku. I have very old relations with him. We've known each other for around 20 years. We visit each other's houses. They visit us on Eid. We visit them on their festivals. I would like to give a message that people should live in peace. That's most important. Islam, our religion teaches us that we should stay on good terms with our neighbours and take care of them. When a Muslim departs from this world, they (Pandit family) visit us," said a family friend.

In Jharkhand&rsquo;s Ranchi, people are being forced to burn the dead out in the open on the banks of Subarnarekha river in Ghaghara as crematoriums are full.
In the national capital, the main cremation ground, Nigambodh Ghat, has been running 22 platforms and six CNG-run furnaces exclusively for cremating people dying to the virus. People are still struggling to perform funeral rites due to lack of space at the facility.
In Bengaluru, the wait time for cremation has gone up to 3-4 hours. Crematoriums that would usually get 5-6 bodies a day are now getting 22-25 bodies of which 15 are covid infected.
In Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Lucknow, the municipality has ordered extra supply of wood for pyres, more electric crematoriums and employed 100 people to work in two shifts, day and night. The staff has been directed to prepare pyres at night so that there is no queue the next day.
In Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s Raipur, hospitals are now running out of storage to keep the dead. At Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, bodies have been lying on gurneys outside the premises as freezers at the mortuary are full.
In Madhya Pradesh, bodies have been piling up at crematoriums and burial grounds. In the state capital Bhopal, 37 bodies were cremated following covid protocols on April 12th at just one crematorium. At Indore&rsquo;s Panchkuiya Muktidham, at least 100 bodies have been cremated in April. At Pipliyapala Mukridham, record show 126 cremations. But the official count of Covid deaths in the two cities combined is 93 for April.
