For the first time in the history of cricket, a football-esque rule is set to be introduced at the men's and women's Caribbean Premier League (CPL).&nbsp;
Starting from the upcoming edition of CPL, bowling teams will be penalised for slow-over rates using a red card-like system. This will result in a player being asked to leave the ground, if the fielding side is behind schedule at the start of the 20th over of an innings.&nbsp;
A press release by CPL elaborated on the new rules. Normally, a team is given 85 minutes to bowl 20 overs but in 2023, this will be closely monitored by the third umpire and over rates will be communicated to the captains via the on-field umpires at the end of every over.&nbsp; The release further said that dispensations will be given for injuries, DRS and time-wasting by batting side where appropriate.&nbsp; The fielding side is expected to have completed the 17th over of the innings after 72 minutes and 15 seconds, the 18th by 76 minutes and 30 seconds and the 19th by 80 minutes and 45 seconds. Failure to stick to the stipulated time will result in consistently increased penalties each passing over. Here's how the regulations will apply for the last 3 overs of an innings.&nbsp; 1. If behind the required over rate at the start of the 18th over, one additional player must enter the fielding circle (for a total of 5) 2. If still behind the rate at the start of the 19th over, two additional fielders must enter the fielding circle (for a total of 6) 3. If still behind the rate at the start of the 20th over, teams will lose a player from the field (selected by the captain) and have six inside the fielding circle.&nbsp; 4. There will also be an onus on batting teams to keep the game moving. After a first and final warning from the umpires, the batting team will be given a 5 penalty for each instance of time wasting.&nbsp; Michael Hall, the Tournament Operations Director of the CPL stated, 'We have been disappointed that our T20 games have been getting longer and longer each year, and we want to do what we can to arrest this trend.'&nbsp;

Shreyanka will be the first woman player who has been offered a contract in an overseas league even before making her senior international debut.

Indian women cricketers are allowed by the BCCI to play in overseas leagues with top players like skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemima Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh have at some point in time played in the WBBL in Australia and The Hundred in England.
However, Shreyanka, who made a name for herself in the Women's Premier League for RCB, will be the first woman player who has been offered a contract in an overseas league even before making her senior international debut.
She was recently named player of the tournament at the Women's Emerging Asia Cup in Hong Kong where she took nine wickets in two completed games for India A.
The 2023 season of WCPL will see an expanded schedule with seven matches to be played in 11 days.
The three teams competing in the 2023 season will be the Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Trinbago Knight Riders. The star-studded squads feature the best players from across the Caribbean, including Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor.
There will also be overseas players from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland and India with some of the best international cricketers appearing in an expanded WCPL.
New Zealanders Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Fran Jonas will be playing at the 2023 WCPL. They will be joined by Australians Laura Harris and Amanda-Jade Wellington. South Africans Dane van Niekerk, Mignon de Preez and Shabnim Ismail will also be at the 2023 event.

Jamaica Tallawahs clinched their third Caribbean Premier League title by thrashing league leaders Barbados Royals by 8 wickets in the final.
It was a great turnaround for Jamaica, given they only just about managed to enter the knockout stages, courtesy of a No Result in their final league game. But the Tallawahs excelled when it mattered the most, winning three knockout matches in a row.
Opting to bat first, Barbados managed to put a below-par 161-7 in 20 Overs with Azam Khan top-scoring with a 40-ball 51. The Royals had a glimmer of hope while defending their total when Kyle Mayers removed Kennar Lewis for a golden duck.

The Caribbean star is the ambassador for the 6IXTY and the trophy of the event has also been named after him &mdash; the Universe Boss Trophy.

The league would be called '6IXTY' and will have 6 men's teams and 3 women's teams who would play in a 60-ball per side tournament with 'radical new times', CPL announced on its Twitter handle.The format has a whole new set of rules:

each batting side will have 6 wickets rather than 10
while there will be 2 powerplays/side they can unlock a 3rd floating powerplay if they smash 2 sixes in first 12 balls
Teams will 5 consecutive overs from each end instead of changing ends after every over
If the team fails to bowl 10 overs in 45 minutes, they will lose a fielder
Fans would vote for a 'mystery free hit' via an app/website

CPL CEO Pete Russell said that their aim is to lure the younger generation. 'It's just about trying to generate interest and excitement', he said.
