Stocks rallied while the dollar slumped against rival currencies on Thursday after a drop in US inflation dimmed expectations of more aggressive Federal Reserve rate hikes.
On Wall Street, the Dow gained nearly a thousand points in late morning trading, or 3.0 percent.
The broader S&amp;P 500 jumped 4.5 percent and the tech heavy Nasdaq Composite soared 5.9 percent.
While the annual inflation rate was down from a harsh 9.1 percent in June -- the highest in 40 years -- latest numbers are unlikely to bring quick reprieve from the Federal Reserve's aggressive moves to cool the economy.
The Russia war in Ukraine has sent food and fuel prices soaring, and the energy index surged 17.6 percent over the past 12 months, according to the data.

Consumer Price Index for inflation for the month of April has shocked at 7.79%. The reading makes it the highest ever since 2014. Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Inflation soared to a 16-month high to 6.95% for the month of March way beyond wat economists were anticipating. This marks the third month of price rise index being above the 6% mark which is maintained as the RBI's 'tolerance zone'. The real culprit as anticipated is oil, and more specifically edible oil. The sub-category of Oil and Fats saw an inflation rate of 18.7%. Even vegetable prices have been adding pressure with the heat wave coming in, March vegetable inflation rate soared to over 11%. The total Food Inflation thus escalating to 7.6%. If one looks at the state-wise data West Bengal is facing the brunt of the price rise with a 8.8% inflation rate and not far behind in second place is Uttar Pradesh with 8.1%. The retail inflation data is due on Wednesday and experts see&nbsp;CPI inflation moderating to 4.1% in April from 5.5% in March.
Base effects are significantly favourable in April, putting around 150 basis points downward pressure on headline year-on-year inflation. Food inflation is expected to be lower at around 1.9% as against 4.9% in March, even though on a sequential basis prices of fruits, pulses and meat rose slightly. Fuel prices remained broadly stable in April, likely due to the state elections.
However, the recent build-up in input costs, driven by high global commodity prices and supply chain disruptions, remains a major concern.
Meanwhile, WPI inflation, which is expected to be out on Friday,&nbsp;may continue to move higher and is expected to register a reading of around 9.3% as against 7.4% in March amidst higher commodity prices.

The election for the 243-seat Bihar assembly is being held in 3 phases &ndash; 71 constituencies will vote in the first phase on October 28, 94 seats will go to polls in the second phase on November 3 and third phase on November 7 will cover 78 assembly seats. The ballots will be counted on November 10. &nbsp;
Around 7.29 crore people including nearly 78 lakh first-time voters will decide the fate of political stalwarts like Nitish Kumar and as well as that of rising sons like Tejashwi Yadav and Chirag Paswan. &nbsp;
Alliances have changed since the last Bihar assembly elections in 2015 which saw the RJD, JD(U) and Congress combine come to power. However, Nitish Kumar walked out of this grand alliance in 2017 to return to the BJP-led NDA fold. He continued as the Chief Minister but BJP&rsquo;s Sushil Kumar Modi replaced RJD&rsquo;s Tejashwi Yadav as the Deputy Chief Minister. &nbsp;
2020 might be the younger Yadav scion&rsquo;s year of vengeance as he takes the field as the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress-RJD Mahagathbandhan. The RJD has bagged the lion&rsquo;s share and will be contesting 144 seats, Congress 70 seats and the CPI-ML, CPI and CPI(M) will be contesting a total of 29 seats. The grand alliance is however a few allies short with Vikasheel Insaan Party and former CM Jiten Manjhi&rsquo;s Hindustani Awam Morcha quitting the alliance and joining NDA. &nbsp;
The ruling coalition may have gained 2 allies but it lost 1 very important ally with Lok Janshakti Party led by late Ram Vilas Paswan&rsquo;s son Chirag Paswan deciding to party ways with NDA in Bihar over differences with Nitish Kumar. While the LJP will fight the polls alone, it will field candidates only against JD(U) and not the BJP.&nbsp;
The saffron party is contesting 110 seats, the JD(U) 115 seats and smaller allies Vikasheel Insaan Party and CM Jiten Ram Manjhi&rsquo;s HAM will be fighting from 11 and 7 seats respectively.&nbsp;
There are other minor political parties and alliances in the fray as well. Former NDA ally Upendra Khushwaha&rsquo;s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party has joined hands with Asaduddin Owaisi&rsquo;s AIMIM. Chandrashekhar Azad&rsquo;s Azad Samaj Party has formed an alliance with MP Pappu Yadav&rsquo;s Jan Adhikar Party. &nbsp;
Whether these smaller parties dampen the Diwali festivities of the bigger ones by dividing their votes or Nitish Kumar beats anti-incumbency to retain his chair or an ailing Lalu Yadav sees his son lead his party to victory will be clear when the EVMs are unlocked on November 10. &nbsp;

The saffron party is contesting 110 seats, the JD(U) 115 seats and smaller allies Vikasheel Insaan Party and CM Jiten Ram Manjhi&rsquo;s HAM will be fighting from 11 and 7 seats respectively.&nbsp;
There are other minor political parties and alliances in the fray as well. Former NDA ally Upendra Khushwaha&rsquo;s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party has joined hands with Asaduddin Owaisi&rsquo;s AIMIM. Chandrashekhar Azad&rsquo;s Azad Samaj Party has formed an alliance with MP Pappu Yadav&rsquo;s Jan Adhikar Party. &nbsp;
Whether these smaller parties dampen the Diwali festivities of the bigger ones by dividing their votes or Nitish Kumar beats anti-incumbency to retain his chair or an ailing Lalu Yadav sees his son lead his party to victory will be clear when the EVMs are unlocked on November 10. &nbsp;

Retail inflation fell to a 15-month low of 5.66 per cent in March, mainly due to a decline in food prices, government data showed on Wednesday. The inflation figure in March is within the RBI's comfort zone as it is below 6 per cent. The retail inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 6.44 per cent in February 2023 and 6.95 per cent in the year-ago period. According to the National Statistical Office, the inflation in the food basket was 4.79 per cent in March, as against 5.95 per cent in February and 7.68 per cent in the year-ago period. The retail inflation rose from 5.7 per cent in December 2022 to 6.4 per cent in February 2023 on the back of higher inflation in cereals, milk and fruits and slower deflation in vegetables prices. Reserve Bank of India has projected the CPI inflation at 5.2 per cent for FY2023-24, with 5.1 per cent in Q1, 5.4 per cent in Q2, 5.4 per cent in Q3, and 5.2 per cent in Q4, and risks evenly balanced.
