Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photo was spotted missing from the Covid-19 certificates. The matter came to light after several netizens went back to check what vaccine they took following AstraZeneca&rsquo;s admission in a UK court that its vaccine causes a rare side effect.
In India, its vaccine is sold under the brand name Covishield, and nearly 1.7 billion doses have been administered, as per the government's CoWin data.
Responding to the matter, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare told the Print outlet that Modi's picture was removed from the vaccine certificates due to the Model Code of Conduct being in place in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.&nbsp;
Earlier, the British firm admitted before the High Court in the UK on April 29 that its Covid vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause blood clots and low blood platelet count. The admission came as it is being sued for 100 million pounds in a class action lawsuit over claims that its vaccine caused death and serious injury in 51 cases, reported the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
According to the attorneys, some households faced a "devastating effect" of the vaccination.
"It is admitted that the AZ vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause TTS. The causal mechanism is not known...Further, TTS can also occur in the absence of the AZ vaccine (or any vaccine). Causation in any individual case will be a matter for expert evidence," AstraZeneca said.
AstraZeneca has, however, denied the lawyers' claims that the vaccine is "defective" and its efficacy "vastly overstated".
The firm's admission came in response to one of the complainants, Scott mentioning that he developed a &ldquo;blood clot and a bleed on his brain&rdquo;, leaving him with a severe brain impairment.

The Prime Minister is the leader of the nation and not of a political party and citizens "need not be ashamed" to carry a vaccination certificate with his photograph and "morale boosting message", the Kerala High Court said on Tuesday and dismissed a plea seeking removal of PM's photo from the Covid-19 immunisation certificates.
"Nobody can say that a Prime Minister is a Congress Prime Minister or a BJP Prime Minister or the Prime Minister of any political party. But once a Prime Minister is elected as per the constitution, he is the Prime Minister of our country and that post should be the pride of every citizen.
".. they can differ on the policies of the government and even the political stand of the Prime Minister. But the citizens need not be ashamed to carry a vaccination certificate with the photograph of the Prime Minister with a morale boosting message, especially in this pandemic situation," the high court said.
It also said that when Covid-19 pandemic can be eliminated only by vaccination, if the PM gave a message with his photograph, in the certificates, that with the help of medicine and strict control, India will defeat the virus, "what is wrong with it?" The court dismissed the petition with a cost of Rs 1 lakh, saying it was "frivolous", filed with "ulterior motives", "publicity oriented" and the petitioner probably also had a "political agenda".
"According to my opinion, this is a frivolous petition filed with ulterior motives and I have a strong doubt that there is a political agenda also to the petitioner. According to me, this is a publicity oriented litigation. Therefore, this is a fit case that is to be dismissed with a heavy cost," the judge said.
The court said in case of failure to deposit the cost within the stipulated period, KeLSA shall recover the amount from his assets by initiating revenue recovery proceedings against him.
It also said that the "petitioner should study the respect to be given to the Prime Minister and others by watching at least the parliamentary proceedings, which are available live on national TV".

It added that "once a Prime Minister is elected as per the constitution, he is the Prime Minister of our country and that post should be the pride of every citizen".
The court further added that the "citizens need not be ashamed to carry a vaccination certificate with the photograph of the Prime Minister with a morale boosting message, especially in this pandemic situation".
The petition had been filed by RTI activist Peter Myaliparampil, who said that to have PM Modi's picture on the certificate when people had to pay for the vaccines at private hospitals, was a violation of fundamental rights.

Facing severe criticism over its discrimination&nbsp;against India-approved Covid vaccines, the UK has said it is engaging with India on how to expand the recognition of the Covid-19 vaccine certification issued by Indian authorities.
The comments by a spokesperson in the British High Commission here came amid concerns in India over the latest Covid-related travel restrictions announced by the United Kingdom.
According to new rules, Indian travellers who have received both doses of the Covishield vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) will be considered unvaccinated and will have to undergo self-isolation for 10 days.
Asked about the concerns in India over the new rules that will come into effect from October 4, the British High Commission spokesperson said the UK is committed to opening up international travel again "as soon as is practicable".
From October 4, the UK will replace the current "traffic light system" of red, amber, green countries based on levels of Covid-19 risk with one red list of countries. The expanded list of countries whose vaccines are recognised in the UK does not include India.
