India's drug regulator has granted emergency use permission to single-dose Sputnik Light Covid vaccine in the country, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Sunday.
The minister tweeted that Sputnik Light is the 9th Covid-19 vaccine in the country and it will further strengthen the nation's collective fight against the pandemic
Sputnik-Light is the single dose version of Russia's Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V. Both vaccines are distributed in India by Dr Reddy's Laboratories.

The firm presented that Sputnik Light vaccine is approved in 29 countries, including Russia and Argentina and that the interim data of efficacy trial from Russia has shown 65.4 per cent efficacy, 21 days after immunisation.

The Biotechnology company Bharat Biotech, on Tuesday said that the Central Drugs Standard Control(CDSCO) has approved the extension of the shelf-life of the most used vaccines in India, Covaxin up to 12 months, from the date of manufacture.&nbsp;
The company further said that the approval is based on the availability of additional stability data, which was submitted to Central Drugs Standard Control.
Earlier during the month of April 2021, the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has written to India&rsquo;s drug regulatory body CDSCO seeking an extension on the shelf life of the vaccine &lsquo;Covaxin&rsquo; from a period of six months to 24 months.

In its latest bulletin on Friday, the Health Ministry said more than 13.8 lakh <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19" target="_blank" >COVID-19 vaccine</a> doses have been administered across the country in the last 24 hours.
In a significant jump, India administered nearly 11 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines on Thursday alone, while on Wednesday, at least 10 lakh people received the jab against Covid-19. These numbers are a remarkable increase from the earlier average of 5 lakh doses per day.
Meanwhile the Covid-19 case tally is rising. As per govt data on Friday, India reported 16,838 new Covid-19 cases and 113 deaths in the last 24 hours.

"Once we have a safe and effective vaccine, it has to be free to everyone, whether or not you're insured," Biden said. Coronavirus has killed over 220,000 people in America and has had a devastating impact on the country's economy. Trump, who trails Biden in the polls, has also stated that a vaccine, which he says will be ready in the coming weeks, should be free.
