India's total active cases have reached 28,303. The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 3.39 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 3.02 per cent, it said.
The total tally of Covid cases stands at 4.47 crore (4,47,45,104) The active cases now comprise 0.06 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate has been recorded at 98.75 per cent, according to the health ministry's website.

A recent study conducted by investigators from King&rsquo;s College London, found that early symptoms of&nbsp;COVID-19 differ amongst age groups as well as between the sexes. Findings from the study were published in the journal Lancet Digital Health.
For the study, the team of investigators analysed data from the ZOE COVID Symptom Study app between April and October of 2020. They then compared the prediction ability of the current National Health Service UK diagnostic criteria and a Hierarchical Gaussian Process model to detect early signs of COVID-19. The machine learning model incorporated characteristics such as age, sex and health conditions.
Findings from the study showed that the most important symptoms for early detection included loss of smell, chest pain, persistent cough, abdominal pain, blisters on feet, eye soreness and unusual muscle pain.
In people over the age of 60, loss of smell had less significance than in younger age groups. It was also discovered that men were more likely to report shortness of breath, fatigue, chills and shivers, while women were more likely to report loss of smell, chest pain and persistent cough.

For the study, researchers analysed the drinking habits and liver disease trends in all U.S. adults. They estimated that a one-year increase in alcohol consumption during the Covid-19 pandemic will result in 8,000 additional deaths from alcohol-related liver disease, 18,700 cases of liver failure and 1,000 cases of liver cancer by 2040.
However, a sustained increase in alcohol consumption for more than one year could result in 19-35 percent additional mortality, researchers concluded.

Researchers used data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) to examine how health-related factors and social determinants impacted the prevalence of depressive symptoms during the initial lockdown&nbsp;in&nbsp;March 2020.
The team found that 43 percent of adults aged 50 or older experienced moderate or high levels of depressive symptoms at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and that increased over time.
Older adults had twice the odds of depressive symptoms during the pandemic compared to pre-pandemic and those with lower income and poorer health experienced a greater impact, researchers concluded.

For the study, the researchers surveyed 5,000 participants from six countries, during the first COVID lockdown from April to May 2020. A study published in The Lancet journal, found that Covid-19 infection during pregnancy is linked to a higher risk of preterm birth.

According to a recent study published in The Lancet Regional Health, pregnant women who contract COVID-19 infection face a higher risk of preterm birth. The researchers also noted that having comorbidities along with Covid-19 infection increases the possibility of preterm birth.
The researchers analysed all live births between July 2020 and January 2021 documented by California Vital Statistics birth certificates. Of the 240,157 recorded births, nearly 9,000, or 3.7 percent, indicated a Covid-19 diagnosis in <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/here-s-why-a-heart-health-check-up-is-essential-before-pregnancy-1628567056810" target="_blank">pregnancy</a>. The preterm birth rate among birthing people with a COVID-19 diagnosis was 11.8 percent compared with 8.7 percent among those without <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19" target="_blank">COVID-19</a>.

As per the findings, the risk of preterm birth or giving birth at less than 37 weeks was 40 percent higher in those with the SARS-CoV-2 infection. And for those who also had hypertension, diabetes or obesity along with Covid-19, the risk of preterm birth rose 160 percent.

An engineering graduate from Rajasthan, has developed a hand sanitiser that you can wear like a wristwatch.

An engineering graduate from Rajasthan&nbsp;has developed a hand sanitiser that you can wear like a wristwatch. 25-year-old Ayaz Sheikh from Jhalawar district, came up with the idea of a refillable wristband sanitiser.
The wristband has a 15-ml capacity and weighs just 30 gm when filled with sanitiser. The container is two-inches in width and an inch long. The device is apparently capable of spraying 150 shots from each refill.
Sheikh's innovation has been registered under I- Start, a state government programme to promote start-ups. He has also applied for a patent for the device and has dubbed it the&nbsp;CoRakshak Band. The wristband sanitiser is being sold through an e-commerce site and reportedly 600 units have already been sold.

The study, published in the journal Nature Communications, found that 98.8 percent of people infected in February and March showed detectable levels of antibodies in November.

A new study led by researchers at Imperial College London and the University of Padua shows that antibody levels remain high nine months after SARS-CoV-2 infection, whether the person was symptomatic or asymptomatic. The results of the study were published in the journal Nature Communications.
For the study, the team tested more than 85 percent of the 3,000 residents of Vo' in Italy in February/March 2020 for infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. They then tested them again in May and November 2020 for antibodies against the virus. Antibody levels were tracked using three assays; tests that detect different types of antibodies which respond to different parts of the virus.
As per the findings, 98.8 percent of people infected in February/March showed detectable levels of antibodies in November. The results also showed that there was no difference between people who had suffered symptoms of COVID-19 and those that had been symptom-free.
The team also investigated the infection status of household members, to estimate how likely an infected member is to pass on the infection within the household. Their modelling suggests that there was a probability of about 1 in 4 that a person infected with SARS-CoV-2 passes the infection to a family member and that most transmission is caused by 20 percent of infections.
