Amid the rising <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19" target="_blank" >Covid-19 cases</a> in the country, India will focus on meeting domestic vaccine demand and not expand exports for few months, news agency PTI reported quoting sources.
However, all commercial contracts and commitments will be honoured, and exports will depend on the domestic demand. The situation will be reviewed after 2-3 months, sources said. 
India started supplying vaccines to foreign countries on January 20 and has so far exported 60.4 million doses to around 80 countries. 
As cases surge in many states with the new &lsquo;double mutant&rsquo; variant detected in <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/fourth-wave-delhi-sets-2021-record-with-over-1200-covid-cases-1616645282585" target="_blank" >Delhi</a>, <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/double-mutant-covid-19-strain-found-maharashtra-records-highest-daily-spike-1616604039661" target="_blank" >Maharashtra</a> amongst other places, the government is ramping up the nationwide inoculation drive. All above 45 years of age will be eligible to get the jab from April 1st.

Surging for a week now, India's active cases rose to 234,406, which now accounts for 1.96% of the country's total cases. The active cases rose sharply by 10,974 on Wednesday.
Scaling up the fight against the viral contagion on a massive scale, India has concentrated efforts on vaccination. More than 3.50 crore vaccine doses were administered in the country till Tuesday evening from January 16.

Pharma giant Dr. Reddy&rsquo;s Laboratories Ltd has completed Phase-3 trials of Russian <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19">Covid-19 vaccine</a> Sputnik V. Conducted on 1,500 subjects, the phase-3 study of the vaccine was part of the randomised, double-blind, parallel-group, and placebo-controlled study in India.
The completion of Phase-3 trials is important as the Covid inoculation drive in collaboration with Serum Institute&rsquo;s Covishield and <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/bharat-biotech-s-covaxin-allowed-to-drop-clinical-trial-mode-label-1615476377611" target="_blank" >Bharat Biotech&rsquo;s Covaxin</a> has already begun across the country.
The results of Sputnik V&rsquo;s trials are awaited by different stakeholders and the data/results of Phase-3 trials will be available in early April. After a review, Sputnik will soon be added in India&rsquo;s mass vaccination drive, say reports.
The company had already applied for Emergency Use Authorisation of the vaccine but the authorities were asked to submit data for Phase 3 trials.
In September 2020, Dr. Reddy&rsquo;s partnered with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to conduct clinical trials of the vaccine and for its distribution rights in India. Sputnik V was the world&rsquo;s first registered vaccine against Covid-19.
