Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conference with all chief ministers on the prevailing Covid-19 situation and the vaccination drive on Wednesday. The virtual meeting, will be held at 12.30pm on March 17, and comes in the wake of a rapid rise in <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19">coronavirus cases in several states</a>.
The prime minister, who has been holding such exercises regularly since the outbreak of the pandemic, last interacted with chief ministers in January before the vaccination roll-out.
The vaccination drive has now moved on to next round to cover people over 60 years of age, and those aged above 45 years and having co-morbidities.
As many as 24 states and Union territories reported rise in active cases, with <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/maharashtra-tightens-curbs-as-covid-19-cases-surge-1615826885013" target="_blank" >Maharashtra</a>, Kerala, Punjab and Karnataka registering the maximum number of fresh cases.

In a significant jump, India administered nearly 11 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines on Thursday alone, while on Wednesday, at least 10 lakh people received the jab against Covid-19. These numbers are a remarkable increase from the earlier average of 5 lakh doses per day.
Meanwhile the Covid-19 case tally is rising. As per govt data on Friday, India reported 16,838 new Covid-19 cases and 113 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Around 64% of over 3 lakh planned beneficiaries were vaccinated on the first two days of the immunisation drive against Covid-19 that was rolled out on Saturday, The Times of India has reported quoting the govt data compiled till Sunday evening.
The report added that 4 states &mdash; Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Tripura and Puducherry &mdash; recorded low turnout of beneficiaries in the range of 22-34%. Other states reported more than 50% attendance of those who were scheduled for vaccination on January 16 and 17. Assam, Delhi and J&amp;K reported 54% footfall.
Experts said the numbers will pick up gradually as is common with any public health programme, especially of the scale of the anti-Covid vaccinations.
&ldquo;India has registered the highest day one vaccination number in the world &mdash; higher than the US, UK and France on day one,&rdquo; additional health secretary Manohar Agnani said.
