The government is likely to make it mandatory for passengers arriving from China and five other places to have negative RT-PCR reports from next week, official sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said filling up of 'air suvidha' forms and 72-hour prior RT-PCR testing may be made mandatory from next week for international passengers coming from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.
The sources said 39 international passengers were found positive for COVID-19 out of the 6,000 tested on arrival in the last two days.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will visit the airport in Delhi on Thursday to take stock of testing and screening facilities there, they said.

The Union government is set to rollout free precaution doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for people in the 18-59 age group at government vaccination centres from July 15 onwards.


So far, less than 1 percent of the target population of 77 crore in the 18-59 age group have been administered the precaution dose, an official source said.

As part of a 75-day special drive, the Union government is set to rollout free precaution doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for people in the 18-59 age group at government vaccination centres from July 15 onwards, official sources said on Wednesday.
The drive, aimed at boosting the uptake of Covid precaution doses, will be held as part of the government's Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India's Independence.
So far, less than 1 percent of the target population of 77 crore in the 18-59 age group have been administered the precaution dose. However, around 26 percent of the estimated 16 crore eligible population aged 60 and above as well as healthcare and frontline workers have received the booster dose, an official source said.
"A majority of the Indian population got their second dose over nine months ago. Studies at ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) and other international research institutions have suggested that antibody levels wane around six months after the primary vaccination with both doses... giving a booster increases the immune response," the official said.
"The government is therefore planning to start a special drive for 75 days during which individuals aged between 18 and 59 years will be administered precaution doses for free at government vaccination centres starting from July 15," he said.
The Union Health Ministry last week reduced the gap between the second and precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine for all beneficiaries from nine to six months. This followed a recommendation from the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI).
To accelerate the pace of vaccination and encourage booster shots, the government initiated the second round of the 'Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0' across states and Union Territories on June 1. The two-month programme is currently underway.
According to government data, 96 percent of India's population has been administered the first dose of Covid vaccine while 87 percent of the people have taken both doses.
On April 10 2022, India began administering precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccines to all aged above 18 years.
The countrywide vaccination drive had rolled out on January 16 last year with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. Vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2 last year.

On March 1 last year, COVID-19 vaccination began for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 and above with specified comorbid conditions. &nbsp;Vaccination for all people aged more than 45 years began on April 1 last year. The government then decided to expand the ambit of the vaccination drive by allowing everyone above 18 years to be inoculated against Covid from May 1 last year.
Inoculation of those in the age group of 15-18 commenced on January 3 this year. The country began inoculating children aged 12-14 from March 16.&nbsp;

On April 25, the positivity&nbsp;rate stood at 6.42%, a sharp jump compared to 4.4.8% a day earlier. Positivity&nbsp;rate is the proportion of test results found positive, as compared to the total number of tests conducted over a certain period of time.
The infection tally in the national capital now stands at 18,75,887 and the death toll at 26,170, the bulletin stated.
A total of 15,642 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the city the previous day, it said.
The capital had reported 1,094 COVID-19 infections on Saturday, the highest since February 10, with a positivity rate of 4.82 per cent and two deaths.
Delhi had logged 1,042 cases with a positivity rate of 4.64 per cent and two fatalities on Friday. On Thursday, the city reported 965 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 4.71 per cent and one death.

The patient is a healthcare worker, who was fully vaccinated, and had even received a booster dose. Just 12 days after the booster vaccine, on December 20, 2021, the woman tested positive during a staff screening test. She went into isolation for 10 days, but did not develop any symptoms.
Then, on January 10, 2022, twenty days after the first infection, she developed Covid-like symptoms and took another RT-PCR test.The result again came out to be positive.
When the samples were sent for genome sequencing, it emerged that the woman had been infected by two different variants of the Sars-CoV-2 virus. The first, symptom-less infection was with the Delta variant, while the second one was Omicron, with cough and fever.
Scientists said that this case shows how Omicron can evade immunity from both vaccines and previous infections.

According to data provided by city health department, the positivity rate in last one week between April 10 and April 18 have increased by six times.
The positivity rate on April 10 was 1.29 per cent with 141 cases which rose to 7.72 per cent on Monday with 501 fresh COVID-19 cases.
With the new cases, the city's infection tally has risen to 18,69,051 while the death toll stood at 26,160 as no new fatality was reported.
The city had on Sunday recorded 517 Covid cases with no deaths.
On Saturday, 461 Covid cases and two deaths were reported in Delhi while the positivity rate was 5.33 per cent.
On Friday, Delhi had logged 366 COVID-19 cases and zero death, while the positivity rate was 3.95 per cent.
The number of patients under home isolation have also increased as there were 1,188 covid patients under home isolation while on Sunday this number was 964.
There are 9,735 beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi hospitals and 81 (0.83 per cent) of them are occupied, the bulletin said.
The bulletin added that as on date there were 623 containment zones across the city. The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Delhi had touched the record high of 28,867 on January 13 this year during the third wave of the pandemic.
The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic which was largely driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant of coronavirus. PTI

On April 10, India reported 1,054 new Covid cases, recorded over a span of 24 hours. On April 18, the number stood at 2,183 - an increase of 107%.
At the provincial level, cases are rising steadily in the national capital of Delhi, and neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Between April 4 and 10, Delhi recorded 943 new infections. In the following week, i.e. 11 to 17 April, Delhi saw 2,307 new cases - an increase of 144%. This is as per a Times Of India analysis.
The report says that Uttar Pradesh saw a 141% increase in Covid cases over the two weeks. Between April 4 and 10, UP had 224 new cases, which increased to 540 between April 11 and 17.
Cases more than doubled in the nearby state of Haryana as well, as per the Times Of India. Between April 4 and 10, Haryana had 514 new cases, which increased to 1,119 between April 11 and 17 - a rise of 117%.
Following the third wave of infections in 2021-end and 2022-beginning, India experienced a relative respite from the pandemic.  During this time, Covid restrictions were eased to an unprecedented level. Many places, including Delhi, removed penalty on not wearing face masks. However, with cases rising once again, it might be time to impose curbs before the spike turns into another wave.

Between April 4 and 10, Delhi recorded 943 new infections. In the following week, i.e. 11 to 17 April, Delhi saw 2,307 new cases - an increase of 144%. This is as per a Times Of India analysis.
The report says that Uttar Pradesh saw a 141% increase in Covid cases over the two weeks. Between April 4 and 10, UP had 224 new cases, which increased to 540 between April 11 and 17.
Cases more than doubled in the nearby state of Haryana as well, as per the Times Of India. Between April 4 and 10, Haryana had 514 new cases, which increased to 1,119 between April 11 and 17 - a rise of 117%. Following the third wave of infections in 2021-end and 2022-beginning, India experienced a relative respite from the pandemic.&nbsp; During this time, Covid restrictions were eased to an unprecedented level. Many places, including Delhi, removed penalty on not wearing face masks. However, with cases rising once again, it might be time to impose curbs before the spike turns into another wave.
