The government of India holds 66.13% in Coal India and expects to raise more than ₹4000 crore from the offer for sale by offloading a total of 3% including the green shoe option at a floor price of ₹225 per share.&nbsp;

The government's offer for sale (OFS) of Coal India shares received a strong response from institutional investors on day 1. With the issue being over-subscribed, the government will exercise the green-shoe option for an additional 1.5% on 2nd of June.&nbsp;
The offer for Sale in Coal India Limited received response from non-retail investors today. The issue was subscribed 3.46 times the base size. Govt has decided to exercise the green shoe option. Retail investors get to bid tomorrow, said Department of Investment and Public Asset Management in a statement to ANI.&nbsp;
The centre, which holds 66.13% stake in Coal India, is likely to raise around ₹4,200 crore from the OFS by selling around 18.48 crore shares or 3% stake at a floor price of ₹225 per share.&nbsp;
However, Coal India stock has been under pressure for the past few trading sessions. Today it closed 4.6% lower at ₹230.&nbsp;
The Coal India OFS is the first large disinvestment from the centre for this financial year. The government's divestment taget for FY24 is ₹51,000 crore.
On Tuesday, Coal India announced a 8% hike in non-coking coal prices, making high grade coal costly. This will give the company a projected incremental revenue of over ₹2700 crore in FY24.

Coal India shares fell more than 4% in early trade on Thursday. This, after the government proposed to sell up to 3% stake in the company through an offer for sale (OFS) on the 1st and 2nd of June. The centre, which holds 66.13% stake in Coal India, is likely to raise around ₹4,200 crore from the OFS.&nbsp;
The OFS includes a green shoe option, to further sell an additional 1.5%, which may be excercised on the 2nd of June in case of an over-subscription.&nbsp;
Non-retail investors can subscribe to the OFS starting on Thursday, while retail investors can do so starting on Friday. 10% of the OFS is reserved for retail investors.&nbsp;
The offer's floor price has been set at ₹225, which is at around a 7% discount to Wednesday's closing price of ₹241.20.&nbsp;

As many as 95 non-coking coal mines, 10 lignite mines and one coking coal mine are being offered in the latest round of auction.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday launched the seventh round of auctions for commercial mining of coal blocks, putting 106 mines under the hammer. Of the total mines offered under the seventh round, 61 blocks are partially explored and 45 mines are fully explored.
As many as 95 non-coking coal mines, 10 lignite mines and one coking coal mine are being offered in the latest round of auction.
In his address, Singh said coal is considered black gold which plays an important role in strengthening the economy of the country.
&ldquo;Our energy consumption has grown in the last few years and will continue to grow. And to meet this need we will have to start taking efforts from today,&rdquo; he said.
The ongoing auctions of coal blocks are a step towards energy security, Singh said.
Details of the mines, auction terms, timelines etc. can be accessed on the MSTC auction platform. The auction shall be held online through a transparent two-stage process, on the basis of percentage revenue share, as per the coal ministry.
Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi said the government will provide incentives to players who will start early production from the mines while inviting the players to participate in the latest round.
He also noted that coal will be in use for the next 40-50 years.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Coal signed agreements for 28 coal mines auctioned under the sixth round of auction.
The cumulative PRC (peak rated capacity) of the 28 coal mines auctioned under the previous round is 74 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and these mines are expected to generate annual revenue of Rs 14,497 crore calculated at PRC of these coal mines.
Upon operationalization, these mines are expected to generate employment for 1 lakh people.
Companies like JSW Cements, Ultratech Cements, Ambuja Cements, and Jindal Power Ltd among others were the successful bidders in the sixth round of auctions.
