Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy is set to return as Thomas Shelby in &lsquo;Peaky Blinders&rsquo; film. The movie, directed by Tom Harper, will premiere on Netflix.
Harper directed all the episodes in the show&rsquo;s first season in 2013.
The streamer announced the news on social media on June 4. &lsquo;Tommy Shelby returns'. A PEAKY BLINDERS FILM starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix,&rsquo; Netflix wrote alongside a picture showing the script of the upcoming film.
&lsquo;It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn&rsquo;t finished with me&hellip;It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of &lsquo;Peaky Blinders.&rsquo; This is one for the fans,&rsquo; Murphy said.
&lsquo;When I first directed &lsquo;Peaky Blinders&rsquo; over 10 years ago, we didn&rsquo;t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. &lsquo;Peaky&rsquo; has always been a story about family &ndash; and so it&rsquo;s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix,&rsquo; Harper added.
The next chapter of the saga, set in Birmingham's lawless streets in the 1900s, is penned by creator Steven Knight. Murphy, Mandabach, and Heeley will co-produce, with Harper, Kosse, Glazebrook, Warren, and Mason as executive producers.
&lsquo;I&rsquo;m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,&rsquo; Knight said.
He added, &lsquo;It will be an explosive chapter in the &lsquo;Peaky Blinders&rsquo; story. No holds barred. Full on &lsquo;Peaky Blinders&rsquo; at war.&rsquo;
Further details about the plot and casting remain under wraps. The film goes into production later this year and will be made in association with BBC Film.
&lsquo;Peaky Blinders&rsquo; chronicles the ascent of the Shelby family's criminal realm under the shrewd Tommy, amidst post-World War I Birmingham. Delving into their alliances with rival factions, government dealings, and global ventures.
