Several fans suffered injuries after a section of a Chilean stadium roof collapsed leaving fans injured on Friday.
The structure of the Monumental stadium in Santiago fell during an open training session of a Chilean football club Colo Colo. 
Viral footages of the collapse show hundreds of supporters and fans in the stands and several cheering from atop the advertisement pillars that eventually fell due to overweight, resulting in the collapse of the roof.
While there is no official information on the number of fans injured, as per reports 4 Colo Colo fans have suffered serious injuries. The injured fans were immediately taken to the nearest medical centre, the club informed. 
Colo Colo, the Chilean club later said in its statement that they would remove the damaged structure completly to avoid a similar accident in future.

Chile votes on ‘world’s most progressive Constitution’; gender parity, respect for climate in focus 

The new constitution, among other things, puts a focus on social issues and gender parity, enshrines rights for the country's Indigenous population and puts the environment and climate change centre stage.

Chileans are voting in a plebiscite Sunday on whether to adopt a far-reaching new constitution that would fundamentally change the South American country.
The proposed charter is intended to replace a constitution imposed by a military dictatorship 41 years ago.
For months, opinion polls have shown a clear advantage for the rejection camp, but the difference has been narrowing, giving hope to the charter's supporters that they can pull out a victory.
&ldquo;We are clearly in a situation in which the result will be close,&rdquo; said Marta Lagos, head of MORI, a local pollster. &ldquo;The Chilean is a political animal who decides at the last minute.&rdquo; The outcome will have a resounding impact on President Gabriel Boric, 36, who has been one of the main proponents of the new constitution. Analysts say voters also likely view the vote as a referendum on Chile's youngest-ever president, whose popularity has plunged since taking office in March.

Voting is mandatory in the plebiscite, which climaxes a three-year process that began when the country once seen as a paragon of stability in the region exploded in student-led street protests in 2019. The unrest was sparked by a hike in public transportation prices, but it quickly expanded into broader demands for greater equality and more social protections.
The following year, just under 80% of Chileans voted in favour of changing the country's constitution that dates from the country's 1973-1990 military dictatorship led by Augusto Pinochet.
Then in 2021, they elected delegates to a constitutional convention. Amid the anti-establishment fervour of the time, Chileans largely chose people outside the traditional political establishment to draft the new constitution. It was the first in the world to be written by a convention split equally between male and female delegates.
After months of work, delegates came up with a 178-page document with 388 articles that, among other things, puts a focus on social issues and gender parity, enshrines rights for the country's Indigenous population and puts the environment and climate change centre stage in a country that is the world's top copper producer. It also introduces rights to free education, health care and housing.
The new Constitution would characterize Chile as a plurinational state, establish autonomous Indigenous territories and recognise a parallel justice system in those areas, although lawmakers would decide how far-reaching that would be.
In contrast, the current constitution is a market-friendly document that favours the private sector over the state in aspects like education, pensions and health care. It also makes no reference to the country's Indigenous population, which makes up almost 13% of the country's 19 million people.
&ldquo;This is a door to build a more just, more democratic society,&rdquo; said Elisa Loncon, an Indigenous leader who was the first president of the convention. &ldquo;It isn't as if Chile will wake up with all its political and economic problems automatically resolved, but it's a starting point.&rdquo; Hundreds of thousands of people took over a main avenue in Chile's capital Thursday night at the closing rally of the pro-charter campaign, a turnout that proponets say shows a level of excitement the polls do not reflect.
&ldquo;Polls have not been able to capture the new voter, and above all, the young voter,&rdquo; Loncon said.
Once the convention got to work, Chileans quickly began souring on the proposed document, with some worrying it was too far left. It is &ldquo;an imposition by leftist radicals on society at large,&rdquo; said Paulina Lobos, who has been campaigning against the proposed document.
Supporters say that was at least in part due to a flood of fake news that spread lies about the proposed constitution.
But it wasn't just about the document's contents. Chileans also grew frustrated at the convention delegates who often made headlines for the wrong reasons, such as one who lied about having leukemia and another who cast a vote while taking a shower.
&ldquo;An opportunity was missed to build a new social pact in Chile,&rdquo; said Sen. Javier Macaya, head of the conservative Independent Democratic Union party that is campaigning against the new constitution. &ldquo;We are defending the option to reject (the document) so we have a new chance to do things better.&rdquo; Macaya insists it is important for a new constitution to win approval by a broad margin &ldquo;through consensus and compromise.&rdquo; Although Chileans, including the country's political leadership, largely agree the dictatorship-era constitution needs to be tossed out, how that will be achieved if the current proposal is rejected remains to be seen.
&ldquo;If it's rejected, what is institutionalised is maintaining Pinochet's constitution &mdash; that constitution that no longer answers the needs of Chilean society,&rdquo; Loncon said.

With 96 per cent of the votes counted in Sunday's plebiscite, the rejection camp had 61.9 per cent support compared to 38.1 per cent for approval amid what appeared to be a heavy turnout with long lines at polling states. Voting was mandatory.
The approval camp conceded defeat, with its spokesman Vlado Mirosevic saying: &ldquo;We recognise this result and we listen with humility to what the Chilean people have expressed.&rdquo; The rejection of the document was broadly expected in this country of 19 million as months of pre-election polling had shown Chileans had grown wary of the document that was written up by a constituent assembly in which a majority of delegates were not affiliated with a political party.
&ldquo;Today we're consolidating a great majority of Chileans who saw rejection as a path of hope,&rdquo; said Carlos Salinas, a spokesman for the Citizens' House for Rejection. &ldquo;We want to tell the government of President Gabriel Boric... that 'today you must be the president of all Chileans and together we must move forward.&rdquo; Despite these expectations, no analyst or pollster had predicted such a large margin for the rejection camp, showing how Chileans were not ready to support a charter that would have been one of the most progressive in the world and would have fundamentally changed South America.
The proposed charter was the first in the world to be written by a convention split equally between male and female delegates, but critics said it was too long, lacked clarity and went too far in some of its measures, which included characterizing Chile as a plurinational state, establish autonomous Indigenous territories, and prioritize the environment.
&ldquo;The constitution that was written now leans too far to one side and does not have the vision of all Chileans,&rdquo; Roberto Briones, 41, said after voting in Chile's capital of Santiago.
&ldquo;We all want a new constitution, but it needs to have a better structure.&rdquo; The result deals a major blow to Boric, who at 36 is Chile's youngest-ever president. He had tied his fortunes so closely to the new document that analysts said it was likely some voters saw the plebiscite as a referendum on his government at a time when his approval ratings have been plunging since he took office in March.
What happens now amounts to a big question mark. Chilean society at large, and the political leadership of all stripes, have agreed the constitution that dates from the country's 1973-1990 dictatorship must change.
The process that will be chosen to write up a new proposal still has to be determined and will likely be the subject of hard-fought negotiations between the country's political leadership.
Boric has called on the heads of all political parties for a meeting tomorrow to determine the path forward.

In the second edition of Doom Tech, we are looking at the HAARP research facility situated in Alaska, USA. Conspiracy theorists have linked the HAARP project to earthquakes and tsunamis all over the globe.
Calamities blamed on HAARP by conspiracy theorists include the Haiti earthquake which struck on 12 January 2010. The Magnitude-7 earthquake killed over 3 lakh people. The Japan earthquake and tsunami of March 2011 have also been linked to HAARP. The Magnitude-9 quake killed over 18,000 people.

The Chile earthquake and tsunami of February 2010 were also caused by HAARP, according to some accounts. The 8.8-magnitude temblor caused over 500 deaths. A massive landslide in Philippines in 2006 has also been linked to HAARP. It had killed more than a thousand people.
These conspiracy theories are not limited to some sections of the internet. Even some world leaders have openly propagated these claims.
In 2010, then President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said recent floods in Pakistan had been caused by HAARP project's electromagnetic waves. He also accused European nations of draining rainclouds before they could reach Iran, causing water shortages in the Asian country.
In the same year, then President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez said a tectonic weapon being tested by America had caused the deadly Haiti earthquake. Chavez claimed that it was just a test-run before America uses the weapon on Iran.
Despite such loud proclamations, conspiracy theorists don't explain how some antennae in the US could cause quakes thousands of kilometres away. Instead, they claim that the details are closely guarded by the American government.
So, what exactly is the HAARP project? HAARP is an acronym for High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program. Its objective is to study the highest portions of Earth's atmosphere.
HAARP sends high-frequency radio waves to the ionosphere. These radio waves heat electrons at altitudes above 60 km. Then, scientists study the resulting perturbations in the ionosphere. The aim is to improve communication, and navigation systems.
HAARP was managed by the US Air Force, and Navy from 1990 to 2014. In 2015, the facility was handed over to University of Alaska Fairbanks.
While HAARP has not responded specifically to earthquake claims, it has responded to weather manipulation theories. HAARP scientists have stated that the facility cannot control weather. Earth's weather is produced in the troposphere and stratosphere. HAARP's radio waves don't interact with these lower layers of the atmosphere. Scientists have said that if ionospheric storms caused by the Sun can't affect Earth's weather, then HAARP definitely cannot.
But this does not mean that artificial earthquakes are impossible. There are at least two ways that humans can cause earthquakes.
The first is fracking or hydraulic fracturing which is used to extract oil and natural gas. Wastewater produced by fracking is pumped into deep, underground wells, and this can cause temblors.
The second way to create a quake is through nuclear explosions. Quakes caused by nuclear blasts are much smaller than the explosion, and not all blasts cause quakes. The range of these is a few tens of kilometres, as per the USGS.
A fabled earthquake machine has also been linked to the enigmatic inventor Nikola Tesla. Some accounts say that in the 1980s, Tesla built a steam-powered oscillator which was designed to vibrate at various frequencies.
The machine reportedly caused violent vibrations in a New York building, causing panic among people in the area who thought it was an earthquake. Tesla wanted to use the machine to transmit electricity via vibrations in the ground.
The genius inventor believed that a powerful-enough machine could even cause earthquakes. However, the idea didn't progress beyond the prototype stage.
Although conspiracy theorists obsess over HAARP, it is not the only project of its kind. There is the Ionospheric Research Facility at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. Then there is the defunct Ionospheric Research Station in Kharkiv, Ukraine. There is also an Ionospheric Heating &amp; Short-wave Radar Facility in Tromso, Norway.
With social media's reach continuing to grow, and scientific projects becoming more and more complex, authorities need to improve their communication so that conspiracy theories don't go from being internet conversations to ignitors of mass panic.

Big cats and orangutans at a Chilean zoo were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Monday. Bengal Tiger Charly and Bornean orangutan Sandai, both members of endangered species, received the coronavirus vaccines.
Chile became the first Latin American country to vaccinate its zoo animals. 
Charly, Sandai and eight other animals at the Buin Zoo in Santiago were chosen for the experimental vaccine campaign as they belong to species considered at high risk of contracting Covid-19. 
Along with three lions, two other tigers and three pumas, three-year-old Charly and Sandai, 26, received their second dose Monday of an experimental vaccine developed especially for animals but not yet available for sale. The animals received their first shot on December 13. 
"The idea is to protect the animals that are most susceptible to contracting the coronavirus while testing whether the vaccines generate immunity and, if yes, how long it lasts," said Sebastian Celis, head of the Buin Zoo's veterinary department. 
Buin Zoo has not tested any of its animals for coronavirus as none have presented symptoms.
The viral disease which has killed more than 5.4 million humans so far, has also been found in zoo monkeys, apes and big cats, as well as in deer in the wild, in house pets and in minks.
Lions in Singapore, Zagreb and Washington, hippos in Belgium, Sumatran tigers in Indonesia and gorillas in Atlanta, Georgia, are among captive animals reported to have contracted the virus to date.

Buin&nbsp;Zoo in Chile vaccinated big cats and orangutans&nbsp;against Covid-19 on Monday

Big cats and orangutans at a Chilean zoo were vaccinated against Covid-19 on Monday. Bengal Tiger Charly and Bornean&nbsp;orangutan&nbsp;Sandai, both members of endangered species, received the&nbsp;coronavirus vaccines.
Chile is the first Latin American country to vaccinate its zoo animals.&nbsp;
Charly, Sandai and eight other animals at the Buin Zoo in Santiago were chosen for the experimental vaccine campaign as they belong to species considered at high risk of contracting Covid-19.&nbsp;
Along with three lions, two other tigers and three pumas, three-year-old Charly and Sandai, 26, received their second dose on Monday of an experimental vaccine developed especially for animals but not yet available for sale.&nbsp;The animals received their first shot on December 13.&nbsp;
"The idea is to protect the animals that are most susceptible to contracting the coronavirus while testing whether the vaccines generate immunity and, if yes, how long it lasts," said Sebastian Celis, head of the Buin Zoo's veterinary department.&nbsp;
Buin Zoo has not tested any of its animals for coronavirus as none&nbsp;have presented symptoms.
The viral disease which has killed more than 5.4 million humans so far, has also been found in zoo monkeys, apes and big cats, as well as in deer in the wild, in house pets and in minks.
Lions in Singapore, Zagreb and Washington, hippos in Belgium, Sumatran tigers in Indonesia and gorillas in Atlanta, Georgia, are among captive animals reported to have contracted the virus to date.

A leftist millennial who rose to prominence during anti-government protests was elected Chile's next president on Sunday after a bruising campaign against a free-market firebrand opponent who was termed as Chile's Donald Trump.
Gabriel Boric has won 56 per cent of the votes, compared to 44 per cent for his opponent, lawmaker José Antonio Kast.
"I am going to be the president of all Chileans," Boric said in the brief televised appearance with Pinera.
Boric will become Chile's youngest modern president when he takes office in March. He was among several activists elected to Congress in 2014 after leading protests for higher quality education.
On the stump, he vowed to "bury" the neoliberal economic model left by Gen. Augusto Pinochet's 1973-1990 dictatorship and raise taxes on the "super rich" to expand social services, fight inequality and boost protections of the environment.
Kast tweeted a photo of himself on the phone with his opponent congratulating him on his "grand triumph" as supporters of Boric gathered in downtown Santiago to celebrate. Outgoing President Sebastian Pinera held a video conference call with Boric to congratulate him.

Experts have said that this is the first time icebergs of this proportion have broken off in such quick succession. According to the report in Reuters, the glaciers have been susceptible to melting due to rising temperatures and increasing rainfall along with rising water levels in the lake.
