Over 90% of child sexual abuse imagery found online now is self-generated, Internet Watch Foundation said in a report.&nbsp;

An internet watchdog in UK has found that over 90% of child sexual abuse imagery found online now is self-generated.
In a report, the Internet Watch Foundation said that more than 100,000 webpages had self-generated content featuring children under 10 in 2023, a 66% increase from the year before.
It said that some self-generated content involved children as young as three years old, with a fifth categorised as causing the most severe harm.
However, the watchdog's CEO Susie Hargreaves said that the rise in imaginery is not problematic as some of the increase could be accounted for by better detection.
&ldquo;It does mean we&rsquo;re detecting more, but I don&rsquo;t think it&rsquo;s ever a good thing if you&rsquo;re finding loads more child sexual abuse,&rdquo; Hargreaves told Guardian.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Obviously the IWF would be most successful if we didn&rsquo;t find any images of child sexual abuse. Our mission is the elimination of child sexual abuse &ndash; it&rsquo;s not just to find as much as possible and take it down.&rdquo;
The group argued that the report criticises Meta&rsquo;s decision to implement end-to-end encryption for Messenger, a security feature that would blind the company to content being shared on its service.&nbsp;
It argues that the feature could make it difficult to detect the criminals who share abuse imagery online.
&ldquo;With so many organisations looking to do the right thing in the light of new regulations in the UK, it is incomprehensible that Meta is deciding to look the other way and offer criminals a free pass to further share and spread abuse imagery in private and undetected,&rdquo; she said.
Reacting to the report, UK Security Minister Tom Tugendhat said that the alarming rise in online child sexual abuse warrants stronger measures.
&ldquo;This alarming report clearly shows that online child sexual abuse is on the rise, and the victims are only getting younger. And yet, despite warnings from across government, charities, law enforcement and our international partners, Meta have taken the extraordinary decision to turn their backs on these victims, and provide a &lsquo;safe space&rsquo; for heinous predators.
&ldquo;The decision to roll out end-to-end encryption on Facebook Messenger without the necessary safety features, will have a catastrophic impact on law enforcement&rsquo;s ability to bring perpetrators to justice."

"This year sexual violence has skyrocketed," said Angela Maria Rosales, national director of the non-governmental organization SOS Children's Villages Colombia, which promotes the event.
Between January and September of this year, 28,300 cases of alleged child sexual violence have been reported in the country, according to figures from the state-run Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF).
In the same period in 2021 there were 27,210 cases in which children turned to the entity for help.
The challenge, according to SOS Children's Villages Colombia, is to achieve greater efficiency in the judicial system that currently takes an average of four years to obtain a conviction against the adult abuser. Only 3% of the cases are attended and end in a conviction.
In the square a group of people held signs denouncing what they say is a "97% impunity" in cases of child sexual abuse.
In Colombia, there is already a tool that is about to come into force that could help in assisting child victims through a special investigation unit of the prosecutor's office.
What activists for children want is that it be implemented efficiently.

The CBI on Saturday carried out searches at 56 locations in 19 states and a Union Territory in connection with two cases of circulation of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online as part of Operation 'Megha Chakra', officials said.
The searches were based on inputs from Interpol Singapore and intelligence obtained during last year's Operation Carbon, conducted against peddlers of CSAM on the Internet using cloud storage, they said.
The operation is targeted at cloud storage facilities used by the peddlers to circulate audio-visuals of illicit sexual activities with minors, thus earning the code 'Megha Chakra'.
The agency, being the first agency to set up a cyber crime unit, has hit CSAM peddlers across India, an official said.

The influence of&nbsp;kidfluencers&nbsp;
The overall&nbsp;influencer industry&nbsp;is valued at about Rs. 1,200&nbsp;crore&nbsp;in India. While we don&rsquo;t know the market&nbsp;cap&nbsp;for&nbsp;child influencers, reports have pegged earnings from a single post to be as high as Rs 1-3&nbsp;lakhs for the most popular among this clan.&nbsp;In South Korea, a 6-year-old YouTuber Boram reportedly bought an&nbsp;$8 million home from her influencer income.
If that sounds like a lot, here&rsquo;s why&nbsp;tiny tots are making big bucks.&nbsp;A 2019 digital insight study said that 73 per cent&nbsp;of kids ask their parents to buy something after seeing recommendations&nbsp;from&nbsp;kid&nbsp;influencers.&nbsp;And 81 per cent of parents bought something children wanted after seeing it&nbsp;in a&nbsp;kidfluencers&rsquo; post.
And it doesn&rsquo;t take a genius to estimate that with school closures and online schooling, these numbers have and will continue to rise.
The consent and cash problem&nbsp;
But who gets to keep this money?&nbsp;While children&nbsp;are&nbsp;the face of the operation, these pages are&nbsp;generally&nbsp;run by&nbsp;their parents,&nbsp;as most&nbsp;social platforms don&rsquo;t even allow children under 13.&nbsp;There&rsquo;s an ongoing global debate on whether influencing is &lsquo;work&rsquo; and if so, can it be dubbed child labour?
Last year, France introduced a law to regulate children&rsquo;s 'influencer income.' The law mandates all income to be kept in a bank account till the kid turns 16 and also safeguards the child&rsquo;s right to be 'forgotten' if they want the content to be taken down.&nbsp;Notably, a YouTuber mom in the US was accused of inflicting abuse, starvation, and emotional manipulation by her own children for using them in her videos.

Closer home, the&nbsp;kidfluencer&nbsp;industry&nbsp;is still in its nascent stage and there doesn&rsquo;t seem to be much regulation in place to&nbsp;safeguard children from exploitation.
Parent Take: the problem with child influencers
Speaking to&nbsp;Editorji, Ruchita Dhar Shah of First Mom&rsquo;s Club highlighted the consequences of turning your child into an 'influencer.' Shah says that there may be information that parents give out (even unintentionally) that could reach online predators.&nbsp;
She explained&nbsp;that children's personalities are changing very quickly so while it may start as a fun talent you want to show off, it is incredibly hard to draw a line before it gets too much.&nbsp;
It is also dangerous to expose your child to a situation where they may calculate their self-esteem based on the number of likes and shares of their post, a problem that most&nbsp;adults&nbsp;also cannot tackle with ease.&nbsp;

Just like forcing a kid to become one, it is probably not a good idea to stop your kid from becoming an influencer&nbsp;if that's what they want (and consent) to do. However, it is the duty of the caretaker to warn and prepare children for the online world before they choose to take the plunge.&nbsp;
In this case, Shah recommends asking&nbsp;children to not share their personal details like school, location or age with their online audience. It is also important to prepare the child for any negative comments or&nbsp;feedback that may&nbsp;be targeted towards them. Set limits on how much they can post or just social media and screens, in general.&nbsp;
